Interesting thread on this very subject (not just the OP but the replies are pretty thoughtful too and examine both sides):

Actually, from what I understand, the delay was more due to the new Battle.net, and less to the state of SC2 itself.
Probably due to them implementing those new features they promised in the stead of LAN gameplay.

Ah well, I can wait for a little longer...

Although I'm sure any word against the holy Blizzard is bound to attract the slings and arrows of the masses, I have to say that I don't particularly care for StarCraft 2 at all.

StarCraft 2, in everything I've seen of it, is basically just the original StarCraft gone 3D with a few extra features.

The problem is that the RTS genre, by and large, has cloned itself to death. I'm bored sick of the entire genre. If I ever get interested in it again, I've already got Supreme Commander - I can't see StarCraft 2 introducing enough for me to be worth $50.

I haven't been very active around the events of the development, I haven't even played the first Starcraft, just started playing it.

I don't know if Blizzard has missed the boat on this. Much as I'd really like a new Starcraft, it's starting to run that tricky Duke Nukem line.
Why does everyone assume when a game is delayed its going to turn into Duke Nukem?! This is a completely different case along with most games because people have actually played SC2 unlike with Duke Nukem where all we got was a few screens.
There were people reporting to have played Duke Nukem...
My point being that RTS's are moving on really really fast. Even Brood Wars was seen as a bit primitive. To be a hit, it's gonna have to beat Command and Conquer, the FPS's, the MMO's, the casuals and its prequel. As well as what Funk says that Battlenet is going to have to support it properly without allowing LAN networks.
That's a really tall order for any software company.

This is pretty much par for the course for Blizzard, but that can't necessarily be a bad thing. I think they've got an audience that will wait for the game no matter how long it takes to put out. Blizzard has equity to burn, but the release of the title as three separate games and this delay, no doubt it'll eat at it a little bit.

We've waited this long. It's not like we can't wait a few more months ^^

Not to sound like a raging pessimist but I wouldn't be surprised if it never came out. Blizzard hasn't made a new game in a while (and why would you with WoW I suppose) and the one that WAS coming out was quietly canceled.

I'm wondering how long until their development team gets sued for not finishing their game and goes belly up? XD

Move over 3D realms, you might be having some company soon.

I'd rather they delay it and have it polished to perfection than have release it with issues for the first 3 months. Blizzard have always delivered quality and I'm sure they'll do so again.

Well, I guess we should name it "Starcraft Forever" and rename Jim Raynor into Jim Nukem at this point.

I know Starcraft is a BIG game, and they need alot of time for it, but this is too much. It's their fault they're so lazy.

They're slacking no matter what light they put it under. If they knew it would take this long, they shouldn't have set a release date TWO-THREE YEARS AGO.

It's called checking your progress before you gloat.

When did they set an exact release date? Even the article here says that their SC2 initial release date was merely "expected". Blizzard almost never set release dates because they tend not to work on time frames but rather on the mantra of "We'll release it when it's done."

And I'm fine with them releasing it when its done. Another half year won't kill me and I can wait for quality. There are plenty of other games between now and then to occupy your time.

It's their fault they're so lazy.
I highly doubt the Blizzard developers are lazy considering all the stuff they've currently got on their plate.

Surprise, suprise, Blizzard have already said that there is a big chance it will be released in 2010.

Not really much of a delay considering they never put a timeframe on these things. I think this should be celebrated.
