Stupidest reason to shoot down a game

My favorite one is that the game is not "original." I really don't see how that is a problem. If the game is a solid title in its particular genre, then I don't see why originiality is a problem. I like how people dismiss games like Halo: Combat Evolved, the Call of Duty series, Killzone 2, and Gears of War 1 and 2 because they are FPSs and therefore are unoriginal. I really hate that

It's not realistic enough; It's not a new game; I've never heard of it; It doesn't have amazing graphics; It's a JRPG; I had to pay for multiplayer, your free MP sucks then. The list goes on.

Graphics, hell I've played games on the NES that were more fun that the games that look the most realistic. Graphics don't make the game, the story, playablity and of course the gameplay itself make the game. Case and Point

Had a friend once who told me his opinions on shooters and I quote:
"Shooters are stupid! All you do is shoot people and sometimes do a puzzle and then shoot more people! Any game that's a shooter is stupid! Hell a shooter can't even be considered a game at all! That's how stupid it is!"

He then went on to say that the 360 was the worst console ever because all it had were shooters and that it couldn't even be considered a real game console. And this all came up just because I recomended Call of Duty 4.

I know a metal head how hates Brutal Legends for this sole reason:
It has one (at lest, I assume theirs just one) Dragon Force song.

I also know someone who hates Halo Wars because (and he's a huge Halo fan) you can't shoot with the right trigger.

Suspension of disbelief is everything to a game, and if the only way you can suspend disbelief is for your game to be rendered in three dimensions in a photo realistic world, you really should be outside and not gaming until that holodeck gets installed in your parent's basement. I was irked at people ripping the graphics of Alpha Protocol. AP was awful because the characters were incredibly poorly written and utterly unlikeable and not because they didn't drop an extra 5 million on the graphics engine.

I've heard plenty of times people complain about the Half-Life series and Shadow of the Colossus because "it had no story" and because you "were just dropped off without any background information."

Just because you're too paint sniffingly retarded retarded to make inferences, and because there was no expository introduction cutscenes playing does not mean those games lacked story.

One of these guys also dismissed Portal because "it was retarded." When I asked him why "it was retarded." he couldn't elaborate. I love the man, he's one of my best friends but I think he mistook the game for himself.

He also gave me the stupidest reason to be psyched for a game. This week he called me up in the middle of the blue to tell me how stoked he was for Deus Ex: Human Revolution. The man had no knowledge of the previous games, in fact he didn't even know Deus Ex is a series until I brought it up. The sole reason he is excited for Human Revolution? He thought the trailer and main character looked badass. He asked me how the main character got wings and if the graphics will really look like that.

That turned the Deus Ex 3 optimist in me into just another disillusioned DX fan protesting the consolization of the franchise.

One of my friends returned Kotor2 and the guide because he didn't like the "zombie" on the cover. He said it was nothing like star wars of something like that.

Friend: The graphics suck, and it's on the wii.

Friend: To me, graphics are the most important part of a game, and the Wii probably couldn't even run Halo 3!

Because it "didn't live up to the hype?" Nah, it's gotta be buggy releases. Developers don;t really get a say on their release dates; they have deadlines. Wait a few weaks after release & they'll have 1 or 3 patches. Becides, if the bugs don't actually cause the game to crash, they usually provide great ammusement.
