Stupidest reason to shoot down a game

My brother scoffs at the Marvel vs. Capcom series. Why? "That's a stupid idea." I think I might strap him to a chair and give him a controller next time I have the chance. And then there's hating a game just for the graphics/art style. Too many examples for me to list, unfortunately. (Go somewhere with Harvest Moon fans and bring up Magical Melody. You'll see.)

"It's rated E".
If I had to explain one more time in middle school that the ESRB rating was not a review score, I was going to hurt somebody. Though, as has been thoroughly discussed before, reviews are not the gospel.

Popularity, or lack thereof. Just because you've never heard of Disgaea doesn't mean it's a bad game. Just because everyone's heard of Guitar Hero doesn't make it bad either.

Also, graphics, obviously. In addition, the art style. I have a friend who's a huge Zelda nerd, but won't even TOUCH Wind Waker because of the cel-shading. And let's not get into the people who bash Halo because it's "colorful".

The number one stupid reason, though? The cover art. I heard somebody bash Phantom Brave for this, saying it's a "girly game" not based on anything more than seeing the box. I guess if cover art is indicative of quality, then Mega Man is the worst game ever made (old joke is old).

Well, it is...
Although my reason is beyond that. If you want to play football, go the hell outside and play football!

Its cel-shaded, but not cel-shaded like the previous game that was cel-shaded. This cel-shading is inferior and doesn't know what it wants to be.
GEE I WONDER WHAT GAME THIS IS REFERRING TO
Funny thing is that the new one isn't technically cel-shaded.

I think the stupidest reason I've heard was that it was too hard. The game he was having trouble with....Fallout 3.

Which has a difficulty slider, IIRC.
I mean, I complain about games' difficulty levels, but only if they're fixed. If a game has an easy mode, and normal is too hard for you, play on easy. Simple.

I swear if I hear that one more time I'll eat this chair.

EDIT: apparently I have to clarify, I dont like it when I say: "I want buy [insert game of choice here]" and a certain friend of mine replies that such and such said the game was shite.
The reviews were bad

Send me a pic of your half-eaten chair
He said he would eat it, not half eat it. How can he send you a picture of a fully eaten chair? perhaps you would like to see the resulting excrement? Creep.

Graphics, it can be the prettiest game in the world but if the game play and UI are absolute shit, so is the game. If the game isn't fun to play or even playable, it's a money sink and a waste. If I can see what I'm going and enjoying it, it's a good game. If developers spend too much time focused on the scenery and not the plot/gameplay then it's nothing that I'll touch. I find myself playing my 64 and old PC games because they're meant to be fun, not dazzling spectacles of pixels in the highest resolution possible.

I like the PC, but really?
If nothing outside of the PC is worthwhile, why would someone get a game system? That's not worth your time.

Aw, come on, man. You've gotta admit that the lack of online play is a little bit stupid.
This guy isn't legit. Check his other reviews they're all hilarious

The stupidest reason to shoot down a game is probably also the most common:

Because somebody you know told you it sucked.

Why? Because different people like games for different reasons. Don't be surprised if somebody you know and really respect ends up snubbing what could turn out to be your favorite game ever.

So yesterday, I was at a friends, and he brought up E3.
Friend: So what was your favorite part of it?
Me: Seeing Goldeneye, I'll finally get to play it on the wii!
Friend: It's gonna suck.
Me: Why?
Friend: The graphics suck, and it's on the wii.
Me: So?
Friend: To me, graphics are the most important part of a game, and the Wii probably couldn't even run Halo 3!

Your stupid reasons?
You summed it up right there, people that think graphics are everything and don't care about the storyline or gameplay are shallow and need to learn theres more to life then shiny lights. Thats not to say graphics arnt apart of a good game, but at the end of the day its not the be all and end all.
I'm very shallow then. It doesn't have to have wonderful graphics, but it can't be too blocky.
I'm refering to people that only play top of the line graphics, the best of the best, and get games because they have the best graphics. Its like people that pick their partner based on looks, its shallow and as time goes on the looks lost their novelty.
I'm not a stickler for graphics, but when the trailer for Gears of War aired, I flew through puberty and wet myself (but damn that game definitely had great online, too bad the campaign was par at best)

*Upon showing a friend an RTS* What the fuck is this? This sucks, there's no action.

*Discussing Crysis* The PC isn't for playing games, that's what console are for.

*World of Warcraft* All people who play it are losers.

*Counter Strike Source* These graphics are shit! And why the hell can I shoot while climbing? This sucks.

The reviewers said Alpha Protocol was terrible because of its glaring bugs. So grab a fork and knife and dig into that chair of yours.
Should of kept reading go back to page 1 friend.

Also I hope the tone was alot more friendly than which I am envisioning cause otherwise *draws machete*
You're the guy with the sword, by the way.
But seriously, I didn't mean anything by it. And yes, it was meant to be friendly.
*clutching chest*"urgh"....t..tell...them...I....I....held the line.*dies*

He hadn't ever even seen the game.
I wasn't under the assumption that either of those games had many "realistic" aspects in them.

"That game sucks because it's overrated" -_-

Personally I don't like Halo, which has been accused of being overrated. This doesn't make me some clever, cultured,or "tasteful" person that is somehow gifted with the ability to make his likes and dislikes apply to EVERYONE.

People who go around pretending to be alternative or "outside the mainstream establishment" and feel that this self-appointed badge gives them an accuse to cram their likes down everyone else's throat irritate me!!

Let me ask these brilliant people, what computer do you have? What brand of coffee do you drink?? What movies do you like? Where are you getting these game reviews from that make you so daring and radical?

I'd hate you break it to them, but chances are their entire lives are based around "overrated" concepts, products, people, music, and entertainment that they mindlessly consume alonh with the other sheep they claim to despise and disagree with.

My point- If you go around saying how "overrated" something is on diverse forums like the Esacpist, then you're just being an "overrated" poser yourself.

You can have your likes and dislikes... you can even say something doesn't deserve the attention it's getting (like Twilight) but don't go around mouthing off to people about how "refined" your taste is in music, video games, and other entertainment(which is what you're essentially saying when you call something overrated).
