If they were smart, they'd call it "Batman VS Superman: Please come see this, so we can fund the Justice League movie we deny wanting to make but know it's the only way to make a blockbuster DC comics movie".
They've announced the JL movie and are supposedly filming it or parts of it at the same time. I don't think it's a secret anymore.

Batman v Superman

It won't kill the franchise, but it doesn't have to save it.
It's the passive aggressive title the franchise needs, but not the one it deserves.

Or however that goes.

No, no, no, no, no, NO! That Superman S needs to be darkened and desaturated more. It's still exuding too much joy, life and wonder. It needs dreary grimdark, because that worked so well for Batman. Make it grey. And smaller.
And somehow, make its voice gravelly.

It's unfortunate how much this reeks of a cashcow. If only they allowed Supes to have one more film on his own, even if it introduced Bruce Wayne with a small-ish Daily Planet interview or something along those lines, it would still play out much better than it currently is.

Dawn of the Justice league.... Ambitious to say the least.

I feel like I am hanging out with my two friends Marvel and DC down at the park. Marvel has just done this awesome little run and jump over the sharp railings by park's entrance. He makes it look cool, lands well and gives a little humble bow as the girls clap, impressed. Then my friend DC says he can do that with less of a run up after eating a pizza and wearing a full length leather trench coat. And insists it will have the same effect because he did a really cool jump over a fence back in summer camp 2 years ago even though he breathes heavy getting out of bed.

As a friend I want to stop him and say there is no point, Marvel did it before and made it look easy. And those cute girls won't be impressed by the same trick. That he is in huge risk of hurting himself and making himself look dumb for absolutely no reason. But deep down, after the way he has treated you, and his refusal to let Marvel have his little moment without trying to steal the spotlight. The arrogance and pigheadedness. Part of you, the bitter part of your heart, as much as you love him. Wants to see his coat get caught in that railing and see him smash his face off the fucking ground and make his teeth fly everywhere like a dropped mug.

Just to teach him a lesson...
I can see that, and I totally agree. You really don't want to see it happen, but a small part of you does. In this case you don't want this film to get FUBAR'd, but.... Yeah. it's exactly the same. Hope for the best, expect (hope) the worst. Yet as two faced as it makes us, it's better than being outright negative. It's not the best title ever, but it's not the worst either. Like most things; wait and see, is the best approach.

uh, isn't the title basically supposed to be a reference to the Justice League? This just sounds like typical comic book titleing as far as I'm concerned
That is 100% what I thought, I see people just banging on how it's bad...but given how it's suppose to set up the Justice League. it honestly fits.

I am just surprised how people are acting like there are good super hero titles out there. Especially in marvel films. There are like two films in their entire catalog with subtitles, one just the name of the villain (well not really but whatever) and the other even more generic being "The Dark World".

I am not saying Dawn of Justice is amazing but I get the feeling the internet world would not be happy unless the name was directly referencing something from the comics. I am just surprised they dropped the Man of Steel part, I think it is fair enough to not see this as a direct Man of Steel sequel and just the next part in the DC universe.

This makes me realize that the Man of Steel part could be a way to build an actually good title.

Batman vs. Superman: Stealth and Steel
Batman vs. Superman: Iron and Steel
Superman vs. Batman: Steel and Silver
Batman vs. Superman: Knight's Steel

I recognize that none of these actually work, but I think if we can find the right descriptor for Batman, it could go somewhere good.

Ooh! How about Batman v. Superman: Trial by Steel!

I can't help but notice that it's not Superman's name placed first... in the Superman movie...

So, joking movie title: "Batman V Superman: Reckoning"

Serious movie title suggestion? How about "Man of Steel II".... huh, this is harder than I thought... but my point still stands!!

Because I don't think it's a Superman film, this is now a Justice League origin flick.

I just hope it doesn't focus around the two fighting each other, because that would be lame and no matter who "wins" it would cause untold rage the likes of which the internet may have never seen.

Have them fight, and during that battle figure out who the enemy really is or something and then they team up.

But with a title saying it's Supes vs Bats, people will get mad if it doesn't focus on them trying to "kill" one another.

Wait, what? Is this going to be a real movie? Seriously? How does Batman even stand a chance against Superman? I mean Batman is basically just a goth Inspector Gadget guy, whereas Superman is like, an actual super-man with real super powers!

HE CAN TURN BACK TIME!!!

And both of them are good guys!
How does this even make sense?
I'm guessing you don't read many of the comics.
I'm read the comics and it still doesn't make sense. Mainly because Batman has never canonly defeated or even been a threat to the high tier members of the JL. The one comic and animation where Bats beat Supes are non-canon. All Batman ever really said was that he had counter measures in mind in case certain members went evil. Most people think this means that Batman will beat Superman, but that's not what it means at all.

More like Batman's plans would shift the match up from 10/0 Superman/ Batman to like 8/2, giving him at least a chance. But outside of Jobber aura, there is a reason Batman doesn't really deal with Superman, Wonder Woman's big villains. Because he'd be brutalized.

Is it that bad?

I had no idea what was even meant to be funny about it until I'd read the paragraphs of explanatory text, and as is usually the way, reading about why the joke is funny didn't help it get funnier. Different strokes, I guess.
I don't get it, the title itself, I actually like.

The Escapist just wants this fail. They won't do anything right in their eyes. It's like they don't want people taking a change on anything.

You know... it's times like these where I kinda wished the secondary title was ACTUALLY the main title... It doesn't help that I feel like the "Superman v Batman" portion of the movie won't "actually" happen until close to the very end, with most like Batman giving a very prominent monologue to Superman before they finally come to their senses of forming a team to take on a pending doom that, plot twist-wise, was "hinted" of coming all throughout this movie...

*sighs* Regardless, I'll wait until the final product gets released, I guess... There's no point complaining any more than we should in the first place...

Couldn't they went with an actual comicbook title like "The World's Finest" or couldn't used that for legal reason?
I think they're holding that title off until the next movie... Justice League: The World's Finest

Actually, I kinda like that title combo... Too bad I don't think that would be the actual title for the Justice League movie, though...

OT: Actually, I think the Superman/Batman movie should have been called The Questionable Future... Now, THAT'S a title no one would have seen coming!

I was really, really hoping that Batman vs. Superman was just a filler title until they came up with the real thing.

So of course this movie project has to keep disappointing me with its news.

But the movie itself can still be good, right? It's still a Superman movie, right?

...please?

The more I read the article, the more I thought how awesome it would be to see one of the world's greatest detectives pursuing the prosecution of a superhero forced to relegate conflict resolution to the realms of litigation. I would not regret paying time and money to see such a movie.

I'm not even surprised anymore. WB has already made so many horrible decisions when making this movie that I can't be angry about it anymore, just more disappointed.

To me, this is the one true Superman and Batman movie.

So, they are not even pretending it is anything more than "prequel to the Justice League movie."

Will Superman even BE in this film? At this rate, he will be a cameo as they line up more superheroes to please their stock brokers that "THE NEXT ONE WILL BE THE NEW AVENGERS!"

Did anyone at DC even watch any of the Marvel films? All of them were self contained stories within their own rights, having the connections and build up be present, BUT IN THE BACKGROUND (barring Iron Man 2), pushed to quick winks and to after the credits.

Everyone is trying to get on the "shared universe" bandwagon (I am betting Fox with connect Fantastic Four with Spiderman), but have no idea what's actually making the wagon GO.

Yes, this is THEE Superman/Batman film. The connection was established very early (the first episode of Superman:TAS mentioned "The nut from Gotham."

Their conflict isn't physical, barring a single throw (which confused Superman more than anything) and a punt (which would of most likely broken every bone in their Batman's body if Superman wasn't holding back). The mutual discovery of each other's secret identities also gives a person reason why they at least tolerate each other, "Tell on me, and I reveal to the world who you are."

Now, they have an interesting interpersonal rivalry, particularly when Bruce starts dating Lois.

Superman also isn't made a dumbass just to allow Batman to be relevant. When he goes after Joker, Superman broke out his lead lined suit. Batman had to come in to save Superman, because the Joker broke out the acid.

Ok yeah, that's a pretty boring title. Not terrible, but just cliched.

In fact, WB, let's leave out the S altogether and just make another Batman movie. You know you want to.
Did you not see the leaked photo of Henry Caville's new Superman costume? All the colors have been brightened. Seriously save for just one or two design tweaks the only major change is the color in that the red is actually red, the yellow is more pronounced, and the blue looks like it was pulled from Superman the Animated series.
New photo?! Where the hell is that photo at? I've heard jack and/or squat about that bit of news.
It was a leaked photo. It showed up on my twitter feed a few days ago but I think its one of those things that wasn't supposed to be out there officially yet so they managed to scrub it away. However yeah the suit actually looks pretty dang awesome. Take the suit from Man of Steel and apply the colors from Superman the Animated series and you have the new Superman suit. Trust me though. The new suit is a step in the right direction.
As much as I want to believe you, I'd rather see actual proof of this image. Did you save this image to share with others? I'm not calling you a liar but I'd like to see the evidence for myself.
I understand and sadly I didn't. I didn't even retweet the tweet so I could go back to it. I honestly thought it'd just start popping up everywhere. I guess call me a liar then until otherwise. :(. I know what I saw though and what I saw was promising.
