Why not instead of making it more realistic and put him in our world...why not....I dunno...... put him in his world and bring that onto the big screen?

Even better if they knocked him down a few pegs power wise and have him unable to fly perfectly and semi indestructible..........

I liked the cartoon of the 90s and half of justice league is not to bad albeit both are rather antiseptic and thats a problem with Superman he needs to not be all powerful and he needs hightech/magic and other super powered enimes if you remove him from that world or make him to powerful...its boring.... .

I feel safe to say that I trust in Nolan to do what is right with Superman, even if he is just going to oversee the production. I might even go as far as to hope that, if they still stick with Lex Luthor for the umpteenth time, it had better be the obsessive businessman we all know and loathe. Not some clown who's only "master plan" is related to real estate and kryptonite.

If not the "true" version of Luthor, then maybe they can consider Doomsday, Darkseid, Bizzaro*, Metallo, etc. Am I the only one who realizes that the only way to balance Superman's powers is to have him go up against another being who can challenge him? Because, I dunno, it makes sense to me. It was semi-done right with General Zod, so why not try again?

*(I would explode from a nerdgasm if they pick him, because I love the character.)

Pffff...the best way to reboot the series would be to do something that would involve Doomsday! That way, the film can have some truly spectacular action that the previous films have left out.
I have to disagree with you there. As iconic as the "Death of Superman" storyline was, it's the epitome of everything that was wrong with comics in the 90's. I'm on board for doing a storyline about Superman's death, but doing it to try and make him dark, gritty and edgy is just all kinds of wrong.

Superman's a big blue boyscout. He works within the system the same way Batman works outside it. He's the other side of the coin. The bright, optimistic, "everything will be okay because justice is good and evil is bad" side of vigilantism. Always has been, always will be. Trying to give him the "Dark Knight treatment" is just repeating the mistake DC made when they killed in him the first place.

If they want to reboot the series right, they've got to pull from stories that get to the core of what makes Superman (and perhaps more importantly, Clark Kent) tick... Stories like Superman for All Seasons and Birthright.

Here's another thought: Why not just scrap the canon version of Superman and do an Elseworlds movie, maybe something along the lines of Red Son? A movie about a world where Superman landed on a farm in the Ukraine instead of Kansas is a movie I'd pay good money to see.

I cringe at every usage of "reboot", "retelling", and "reimagining." It's just a smoke screen used to make the masses buy into some bullshit story, without claiming it as part of the "collected tales of ."
I don't see why they just don't call it an "adaptation", because that's a far more accurate term.

Nolan has done decently by Batman, so maybe he'll become the movie industry's go-to guy for superhero flicks?

I doubt we'll ever see an Elseworlds story on the big screen. They work in comics because they assume you already know everything about the characters in their normal 'verse; basically, they're for the people that already know the in's and out's of the characters. Movies have a wider demographic, a lot of whom don't read comics and thus won't know what's going on.

Superman has no relevance to the modern person. He's an anachronism.

Superman is from a time when being a reporter was cool and, you know, phone booths actually existed. I haven't seen a phone booth in a decade.

And his weakness is a rock that's always brought out and it always weakens him except no one actually bothers to, you know, shoot him. Then the rock gets knocked away some way or another (probobly by the love interest) and the day is saved.

It's lame, it's formulaic, it's anachronistic.

When archie commics where the most dramatic things got, yeah, Superman I'm sure was awesome.

But this is 2010, not 1910.

I think the lack of nipples made the new Batman movies better.

As for Superman, maybe they can have an evil clone that people mistake for the orig... oh, yeah. Maybe Lex could steal his DNA and clo... oh, yeah.

Doomsday had one good outting, then he got neutered pretty quickly. Maybe Darkseid instead? Not to put a too fine of a point on it, but Superman is what you might call a "Mary Sue", its tough to have a challenge for him without resorting to the instakill kryptonite (yeah its not, but go with it) that seems to be the only way people know. Hint hint, he is also vulnerable to magic and psionics.

I think I read somewhere that Nolan was a big fan of the Batman comics, which is probably why the movies got so good. Though I don't know if the guy liked Superman.

Hollywood needs to stop making the villian Lex Luther. Make the Villian Darkseid, Bizzaro, Brainiac, Metallo, or I think they could even use Zod again if they did it right.

Supergirl please.

Anyway how is The Dark Knight a reboot? You rebooted at Batman Begins and carry over all the actors and characters so it's a sequel not a reboot

They could focus on the alien side of Superman. Like switch it around so that Clark Kent is the real persona and superman is the 'pretend to be normal' side of him that tries to elevate the idea that the only way he is going to feel appreciated to a species he is living with is by showing them just how amazing he is. But deep down he is missing a part of him he will never truly connect with.

Yeah, thats the only way I see this going anywhere dark. But I never really paid too much mind to Superman.

I refuse to watch Superman Returns. At what point did Supes and Lane actually have sex to concieve that brat??? That whole element absolutely turned me off.

*goes off to watch her Lois and Clarke DVDs while she flips through pages of superdickery.com*

My bet? They'll try and shift things so that DC and Marvel will remain rivals. By that, I mean that, just as they always do, two Hollywood companies will release similar movies at the same time. By THAT, I mean the upcoming "Avengers" movie they've been trying to hash out. So, at the end of this next Superman, they'll be trying to assemble a Justice League.

They shacked up in Superman II [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superman_II], after Supes gave up his powers to live a mortal life with Lois.

Superman Returns follows the same continuity, though a little in-film explanation for the non-Superman obsessed viewers would have been nice.
