Guy deserves time for attempted murder, none of this manslaughter bullshit.
As I explained in an earlier post, the verdict wasn't attempted manslaughter. To simplify, you could say that the verdict was attempted rage murder (thanks MikeOfThunder.)

Well I predict this.

Jack Thomspon shows a cute baby on a slide show, shows it playing 260,then shows it growing up and becoming a psychotic bully.

Then it ends like this

*sigh* 1 crazy fuck paints us all in similar shades thanks to assosciation...

I think Jack Thompson just got a bit happier. I'd give it 24 to 48 hours before he is out making some statements about this.
Anything to help him talk out of his ass. I am quite sure there have been plenty of incidents of people going randomly homicidal over their cable going kaput, their celphone dropping service, their blender not working, their car not starting...the list goes on. This guy had this mentality in his head long before he played Starcraft. In fact it was probably Starcraft that kept him from going on some random spree. Thank you mental guy's ISP for failing!

Of course is video games were never around, nobody would ever be stabbed, evar! If this is used against gamers, it's incredibly flawed. Now, I must go release my anger by shooting out tires on passing cars.

Cool it's the game industries fault again, instead of just a mental instability that is the guys fault. Because starcraft has so many stabbings it's clearly responsible.

So, does Sweden not teach their people conflict resolution or stress management techniques?
Out of curiosity; does any country teach their citizens conflict resolution or stress management? It's not normal here in England, is it done elsewhere?

Well, I'm an American living in Stockholm, and I can honestly say that Swedes are just about the most antisocial, rude, and poor socialized people I've ever known, and I've been a lot of places. I don't think they really 'teach' conflict resolution anywhere (although it's probably a good idea), but there is more pent up aggression in these people than anyone I've seen. Go Sweden!!

1. Why was he put into psychiatric care he should be stabbed back then thrown into prison for life

2. What kind of lifeless moron would do something like that it's just a game it's not important its a time passer with flashy lights and buttons not the most important in the world

Oh yay, another psychopath hurting people.
I wonder if the mass-media will focus on him hurting a girl for no reason or him playing video games?

Actually that is just stockholmers, they are like the swedish version of New Yorkers, nobody likes them.

OT: Another spin on this would be that Starcraft was the only thing that kept him from murder, I dont get why noboty mentions that.

Seriously, that's messed up.

I would expect that from a Korean, y'know how nuts they are over Starcraft, but a Swede? I know they're effin' messed up, but this is pushing it.
You are one ignorant fuck.

Couldn't he play some skirmish or run through a few campaign missions while his net connection gets back up?

You just go killing when someone else goes looney? Yeah, I always found that my killing time gets interrupted constantly by all those damn choices of people to go after.

How will beating the guy to death solve this problem? The girl will still be cut up. The media will just have one more story against the gaming community, and you will be in jail or on death row.

Unless you were just being ironic and I missed it.
I would LIKE to, but i would not do it, because i can control myself when I'm angry, but i would probably hit him in the face... or cut off his balls. These people need to get punished. He will be punished but not enough. He's probably going to get 1 year because that was an 'accident' and he did it because he got 'looney' for a moment. And why did he attack 15 year old girl? Is he a pussy? Why didn't he attack 18 year old boys if he's so crazy?

If she cut the connection to make a phone call them I would totally understand. But in this case he was just venting on her.

Oh, for Christ sake. Why do we get these morons who constantly have to give the naysayers ammunition.

It becomes increasingly difficult to defend gamers/ing when you get people like this, especially when in this case the victim was a 'random' 15 year old girl who is now probably scarred for life both literally and metaphorically.
I could not have put it better myself.

Gaming really is serious business nowadays, isn't it? Oh well, I'd love to say "I hope he gets sodomised in juvi", but mental illness is mental illness.

Attempted manslaughter is an oxymoron. If it's "attempted" then it implies intent to kill, thus it becomes murder. If there was no attempt and no death then its nothing than grievious bodily harm.
