Aye, symphonic metal deserves a good amount of credit, it's what proves people wrong when they say metal musicians aren't talented :D. Well Apocolyptica is deffinitely one of my favourites, aswell as Stratovarius(symphonic power metal!). As for Viking/also known as folk Metal, Ensiferum, Wintersun,Amon Amarth, Rhapsody(of fire),and Norther are on the top of my list.

Rhapsody of Fire got me into symphonic metal. Nightwish kept me there. I'm going to take every name here under advisement (especially Kamelot, Apocolyptica, and Stratovarius).

Also, you don't know fun until you've managed to stand up in karaoke and convince a room full of drunken non-geeks to sing "Pride of the Tyrant" with you.

I'm afraid I don't really like metal, therefore do not listen to it, therefore cannot assist in your search for new bands.
Apologies.

Ahem, this isn't a thread about metal in general.. Rather, it is a thread about symphonic metal and bands that fit it.. It deserves its own topic if only for it be better structured.

Symphony X, Dream Theatre, and Iron Savior. Only heard one song of the last band, but it was something awesome.

Also, not sure if these considered symphonic metal, but I've been addicted to The Black Mages for two years now. Their first and third albums are alright, and their second one is a reworked piece of genius. The soundtrack to Advent Children also blew my mind.

I see your point, and it would make perfect sense if this was a music forum. But it isn't, and the fact is that people have been complaining lately about the amount of metal threads around the place. Posting it in that thread will get largely the same result, while keeping the rest of the forum cleaner.

EDIT: Let's throw in some Videogame Metal bands too if you know of any!
Videogame Metal you say? Powerglove [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBsw_JlzIbs&feature=related] might be the ones you'd like to know.

EDIT: Also, though not quite in the genre of the thread (though it's related to Viking Metal) Russian band Tverd [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUDu2Shtp6U] can't be recommended enough

Kamelot, Epica, Sonata Arctica, Helloween, Stratovarius, Rhapsody of Fire (well some these are more power metal/ prog but since you Like Blind Guardian I'm sure you'll find a soft spot for these too) Diablo Swing Orchestra <- Symphonic avant-garde metal

most bands listed so far isn't "symphonic metal' in it's self but for example Symphonic avant-garde metal, Symphonic power metal, Symphonic black metal, Symphonic goth metal etc...
I... you posted the exact list I was going to put, not a single different band. Similar tastes I suppose.

Machinae Supremacy (spelt that way)
Search up "My metal medley" by Jesushobo on youtube. I can't be bothered to find the link right now.

It's not my video, but he does have a huge variety of bands in there, quite a few beings symphonic metal.

Really? Forgive me for doubting you, sir, but chances are the plea for symphonic metal bands (as well as the others, but they're fairly unique) in a thread about metal in general is probably going to stir up "Symphonic metal sux" more than any real replies, IF it gets any attention at all. And that's a very big if.

This is the off-topic section, and as such, many off-topic discussions will go here. Should they mimic one another and share x, y, and z similarities, doesn't mean they should be merged together as one thread just because some people are whining that the greater majority, when it comes to music discussion, prefers metal to other genres.

To summarize: please quit your collective bitching about the subject, it's not our fault that metal is better in the eyes of the many on these forums, and music is a popular discussion point. Furthermore, so long as we're not blatantly starting the same thread over and over, similarities shouldn't matter, and if you don't have an interest in it; don't read it.

Now that I've said that much, thank you to everyone who's contributed and broadened my music library! Rock the f*ck on, and I'll keep my fingers crossed for more entries in this thread regarding to MUSIC instead of ... other stuff.

Symphonic Metal kicks some serious ass in my opinion. I love listening to Apocalyptica, Nightwish, and Blind Guardian (yes, the last is a bit of a stretch, but I still think it's symphonic metal, thanks).

So my question is this: Not to discuss the genre, but rather what are some other bands that play in this style? So far I've only found Wolfmother which is another iffy fit, and I'm craving more!

(Viking and Pirate Metal are also welcome, because they're epic too)

EDIT: Let's throw in some Videogame Metal bands too if you know of any!
A band that no longer exists but the australian band chalice might be what your looking for
