And what makes you think I even use guns in Deus Ex (apart from boss battles in HR)?
I actually managed without. 2-4 remote explosives takes care of em.

OT I wouldn't put it so black n white. Loved the Syndicate games, but let's see what they come up with, maybe we'll be surprised. If not let me bring the first torch :)

And Richard K Morgan? Please don't stuff another shooter with dipstick support characters running their mouth into an earpiece that I cannot turn off. I know you probably written all this rad dialogue but this is a game, not a novel.
Richard Morgan's novels run more towards violence and handjobs than dense dialogue.
Yeah but Crysis 2 is the game he wrote and characters will not shut up in that game. The first 2 hours of that game had the support guy reminding over and over again to come to his apartment as if I would forget and when he finally goes away he's replaced with a guy who monologues on 'how he built the suit".

Without that the game might have built some tension. If you want to have speech in games with silent protagonists have guards talking. Radios. PA announcements. Multiple character talking in front of you. Imagine in half life 2 if Alyx, Dr Keiner, Vance, Barney, Mossman et al all chipped in with comments and advice constantly. Yech.

Well Crytek and EA probably wouldn't let him write in his usual amount of handjobs so he had to fill in the gaps with something and chose dialogue.

What?! NOOO! WHY EA, WHY?! I HATE YOU MOTHERFUCKERS SO MUCH! GAAAH! CUT IT OUT!

*pant pant*

Well, they've ruined this and X-Com, the good Silent Hill games are getting blisteringly horrible voice-acting makeovers, some penis-gobbler is remaking The Crow, Nightmare on Elm Street has been desecrated, someone shat on Green Lantern, and someone is fucking up Prey.

The only things I have left are Evil Dead and Legend of the Dragoon...

No... NOOO!!! STAY AWAY FROM LEGEND OF THE DRAGOON! STAY AWAY, YOU BASTARDS! STOP DEFECATING ON THE THINGS I LOVE! *sob sob sob*

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but The Evil Dead is getting a remake/boot/imagining, or possible sequel.

Good news? Campbell and Raimi are working on it.

Yeah, I've decided to be tentatively excited about it... It's got a pretty good looking crew behind it.

I just fear the day that some money hungry jerk-off gets their hands on the Evil Dead IP.

Also, I quite liked the musical!

Weird trend games being remade into shooters of recent... Wouldn't it be more profitable to use old titles like this in a way that reflects the source material better so the fans will buy it? Because there seems to be waaaay too much competition in the FPS genre anyway, this just seems like it's limiting itself... Then again, this does generate a lot of attention so it could be a viable marketing strategy. Wouldn't put it past EA really.

I think this game has the potential to be really good. First off, Syndicate was always predominantly an action game, so for me the transposition into 1st person isn't that big a deal. It's unclear as of yet what tactical/rpg elements there will be in the game, but I think the ability to upgrade your character, put together with a tactical system somewhere between Brothers in Arms and Rainbow Six could work out really well.

Also, it's made by Starbreeze, who as far as I know haven't made a bad game to date (Chronicles of Riddick is one of my all-time favourites when it comes down to pure atmosphere). There's definitely something to get excited about here guys!

At the risk of pouring on your parade, whilst I do agree that a perspective shift could work for syndicate (though as others have mentioned, certain series like crusader might have been better candidates) it's the other elements that don't seem to match up with syndicate:
1)You've got a name and a character now.
2)Story where you embark on a brutal campaign of corruption and revenge...
Oh god i can't do this. Just take a closer look and you'll see it's not the shift to fps that is the cause of most of the rage. If you're a true syndicate fan you'll see a lot of warning signs on a similar scale to new xcom game being set in the 60s (irrespective of the game itself, as an xcom fan you know that is impossible cos the xcom program started in the 00s..) Ok maybe not quite as bad as that as there doesn't seem to be retcons...yet.

The more I've been thinking about this the more it's pissing me off. "Let's make it an FPS! Those make money!"

Good grief; when Higher Functions (later called Syndicate) was first written, you couldn't even directly control the Agents. It's a strategy game. Now someone else is writing a FPS named after it. This couldn't be any less like Syndicate if it were set in Equestria. Uuugggh. What a waste.

I wonder what Peter Molyneux has to say about it?

Next up: Ubisoft plans to release its next installment of Chessmaster as a FPS, in order to attract a wider fanbase with a more visceral, action-packed experience. Long time fans of chess may need to adapt to minor changes to the core rules, but it's for the better.

Eh, it's not quite as bad as the X-com asshattery, I suppose. Syndicate was never that much for actual tactical play, and the strategic elements were pretty damn shallow as well. Need money? Leave the computer on! Upgrades include: increases to the abilities you already have! About the only real decision was whether or not to research weapons, since if you didn't, the badguys wouldn't do it either.

So from that point of view, it's awright I guess. The real problem is: I've already played this game. Several times. We all have. I miss squadbased, turnbased, slowpaced games. Fallout: Tactics was a better successor than this new game. Fortunately, big games industry, you are not the only source of games, and I don't have to give you my money.

And I don't.

I have to confess that way back in the day I fantasized about what a Syndicate FPS would be like. Now I'm not so sure that I want to see that dream become a reality.

It can still have huge levels. An most of the games fun was storming through the maps with 4 characters with full augs and mini guns mowing down enemy sydicates. Awesome. I guess we will have to see what they do, wait for more information. It has to have the same feeling and mood. Floating cars and raiding police stations and army bases. Also the pursuadetron. Gotta have that.

Surprise surprise, people crying into their cereal because of a fps version of an old franchise. Shock and/or awe.

I loved the original syndicate, doesn't automatically mean this game will be bad because it is played through the first person perspective instead.

If folks are so hard up because of the genre change, dosbox, play the original versions of the old games on even new pcs. There is no point in a company simply remaking the same game if the old one still works, not every developer wants to be NINTENDO.
