Bioware to make an FPS out of it...

Just because people want a new Syndicate doesn't mean they'll take any shit EA throws at them under the name "Syndicate."
Well that was my point. A new syndicate can never be the new Syndicate they want.
Well, it could be. The new Deus Ex was absolutely the Deus Ex I wanted. They just need to find good developers who loved the old Syndicate, and give them some freedom to do what they want. Though, it probably wouldn't be very profitable. I'm surprised Square Enix took the risk with Deus Ex...
Deus Ex is hardly a fair comparison because it was still an FPS. An FPS unlike anything we'd seen in years, sure. But an FPS nonetheless. FPS' work on modern consoles. Top-down squad tactics games don't. There are a few titles, but it's just not lucrative enough.

The only recourse is to not buy the game. If they are just going to throw the FPS treatment on everything to try and make a buck, we need to let them know by not buying them. It would be better if all these old franchises died, rather than have them morph into something like this.

I perfectly understand people being upset about this one because of the genre change.... but the majority of escapists here are console gamers. Why don't you guys understand that Consoles WON'T have over-the-top squad based strategy games. It's just NOT going to happen. Just get the fuck over it.

Alternatively if this was a PC exclusive: (which no big developer will make nowaydays anyway) A)it would undersell like dogshit. B)The majority of people here will whine about not being able to play it! It's a lose-lose situation.

Hence it's either THIS Syndicate or NO Syndicate. Choose.
Bet you're getting sick of people quoting you to say 'NO Syndicate' eh?
I may not have thought that one through. Problem is, I thought people were really looking forward to a new syndicate. Evidently not.
I'd love a sequel to Baldur's Gate 2, but if EA forced Bioware to make an FPS out of it...

Dues Ex could of been expanded a bit more BUT I see your point. Especially with so many sequels failing recently, Dues Ex:HR was actually done quite well.

But to the point. I can see Syndicate Wars becoming a successful first person shooter *IF* its done right. If I will miss out on the bird eyes view watching massive towers collapse and vehicles crashing/exploding then go ahead and impress me by doing it first person with ground breaking physics. Deliver on similar freedom with all so many guns, upgrades and missions and the atmosphere to match and you have me excited. In addition if you want to pretend your another Dues EX with all the added stealth mechanics then by all means, show me what you got but you have quite a milestone to reach.

But what has me cringing is knowing:
1) It will include Co-op (That usually suggests limitations in single-player to make up for it)
2) It will be published by EA who I see has murderer of sequels, bringer of Origin
3) Advertising the stealth factor over the original features from the previous installments, which somewhat suggests it will be a different games... like it wishes to be Dues Ex instead!

Sometimes I wish companies like Blizzard would be in charge of such projects... but thinking twice about it they would probably turn it into an MMO, add elves, space aliens release it in 3 pieces for maximum profit after 10 years in the making.

What really creeps me out that the coming Xcom wont be the first time that franchise has been violated. There was the flight simulator X-com Interceptor, and a 3rd person shooter X-com Enforcer. Considering how horribly those sold, and how I expect the next one to sell, it seems the marketing thinks the only reason people play X-com is because they simply hate aliens.

Now Syndicate, this is getting almost as bad, but since its for origin I wouldn't even think about trying it in the first place. I'd really want to know what kind of marketing strategies EA tries to apply, the company hasn't made profit in a long time and they seem to agressively destroy everything good and decent they can absorb into their IP hole of misery and failure.

I wish there was a way to pay for them to lose money.

The humble Megadrive had decent versions of Syndicate, Populous, Megalomania, Dune 2 and originals like Herzog Zwei. If a console released in 1989 can pull it off, why can't the current lot?

What about the original Syndicate on XBLA!!!

And what makes you think I even use guns in Deus Ex (apart from boss battles in HR)?
I actually managed without. 2-4 remote explosives takes care of em.

OT I wouldn't put it so black n white. Loved the Syndicate games, but let's see what they come up with, maybe we'll be surprised. If not let me bring the first torch :)

And Richard K Morgan? Please don't stuff another shooter with dipstick support characters running their mouth into an earpiece that I cannot turn off. I know you probably written all this rad dialogue but this is a game, not a novel.
Richard Morgan's novels run more towards violence and handjobs than dense dialogue.
Yeah but Crysis 2 is the game he wrote and characters will not shut up in that game. The first 2 hours of that game had the support guy reminding over and over again to come to his apartment as if I would forget and when he finally goes away he's replaced with a guy who monologues on 'how he built the suit".

Without that the game might have built some tension. If you want to have speech in games with silent protagonists have guards talking. Radios. PA announcements. Multiple character talking in front of you. Imagine in half life 2 if Alyx, Dr Keiner, Vance, Barney, Mossman et al all chipped in with comments and advice constantly. Yech.

Well Crytek and EA probably wouldn't let him write in his usual amount of handjobs so he had to fill in the gaps with something and chose dialogue.

What?! NOOO! WHY EA, WHY?! I HATE YOU MOTHERFUCKERS SO MUCH! GAAAH! CUT IT OUT!

*pant pant*

Well, they've ruined this and X-Com, the good Silent Hill games are getting blisteringly horrible voice-acting makeovers, some penis-gobbler is remaking The Crow, Nightmare on Elm Street has been desecrated, someone shat on Green Lantern, and someone is fucking up Prey.

The only things I have left are Evil Dead and Legend of the Dragoon...

No... NOOO!!! STAY AWAY FROM LEGEND OF THE DRAGOON! STAY AWAY, YOU BASTARDS! STOP DEFECATING ON THE THINGS I LOVE! *sob sob sob*

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but The Evil Dead is getting a remake/boot/imagining, or possible sequel.

Good news? Campbell and Raimi are working on it.

Yeah, I've decided to be tentatively excited about it... It's got a pretty good looking crew behind it.

I just fear the day that some money hungry jerk-off gets their hands on the Evil Dead IP.

Also, I quite liked the musical!

Weird trend games being remade into shooters of recent... Wouldn't it be more profitable to use old titles like this in a way that reflects the source material better so the fans will buy it? Because there seems to be waaaay too much competition in the FPS genre anyway, this just seems like it's limiting itself... Then again, this does generate a lot of attention so it could be a viable marketing strategy. Wouldn't put it past EA really.

I think this game has the potential to be really good. First off, Syndicate was always predominantly an action game, so for me the transposition into 1st person isn't that big a deal. It's unclear as of yet what tactical/rpg elements there will be in the game, but I think the ability to upgrade your character, put together with a tactical system somewhere between Brothers in Arms and Rainbow Six could work out really well.

Also, it's made by Starbreeze, who as far as I know haven't made a bad game to date (Chronicles of Riddick is one of my all-time favourites when it comes down to pure atmosphere). There's definitely something to get excited about here guys!

At the risk of pouring on your parade, whilst I do agree that a perspective shift could work for syndicate (though as others have mentioned, certain series like crusader might have been better candidates) it's the other elements that don't seem to match up with syndicate:
1)You've got a name and a character now.
2)Story where you embark on a brutal campaign of corruption and revenge...
Oh god i can't do this. Just take a closer look and you'll see it's not the shift to fps that is the cause of most of the rage. If you're a true syndicate fan you'll see a lot of warning signs on a similar scale to new xcom game being set in the 60s (irrespective of the game itself, as an xcom fan you know that is impossible cos the xcom program started in the 00s..) Ok maybe not quite as bad as that as there doesn't seem to be retcons...yet.

Good grief; when Higher Functions (later called Syndicate) was first written, you couldn't even directly control the Agents. It's a strategy game. Now someone else is writing a FPS named after it. This couldn't be any less like Syndicate if it were set in Equestria. Uuugggh. What a waste.

I wonder what Peter Molyneux has to say about it?

Next up: Ubisoft plans to release its next installment of Chessmaster as a FPS, in order to attract a wider fanbase with a more visceral, action-packed experience. Long time fans of chess may need to adapt to minor changes to the core rules, but it's for the better.
