Team Fortress 2 Goes Free-to-Play, Meets the Medic

Watched Meet the Medic Moments after the official game group announcement went out. I must say: Freaking Epic.

As for that it's now free to play, TF2 used to cost money. Now anyone who bought the game has a "premium" TF2 account. Details: http://www.teamfortress.com/freetoplay/faq.php .

We apparently also get a free "Proof of Purchase" hat.

Not really about the game going F2P (I don't really care, honestly I like the social aspects of MMOs and this sounds like the route TF2 is taking), but... Um...

I am personally near unaffected by this. My only problem is that the steam servers are overloaded and now I have to play tomorrow.

Let's see:

1 - Download TF2
2 - Buy something cheap
3 - Unlock premium stuff, with knowledge that you basically bought a game for really cheap (unless Valve requires people to spend $20+ to unlock premium stuff)
4 - Profit! (for Valve)

My only qUestion is when did we ever have to pay to play this game // I've had it since the Orange Box came out& not once have I ever had to drop one cent more than the box price of the game to play it // Yes there is all this new fancy upgrades but one does not need them to plap/enjoy the game

You never did, free to play simply means you don't need to buy the game to play it, it's free now.

Now if only Team Fortress 2 was actually fun I'd download it.

Meet The Medic, totally worth the wait. And Free-To-Play is also a good idea, I think. TF2's gone about as long as it can on store shelves, and the Mann Co. Store is definately the big money-maker with its hats and items (all of which you can find through drops, making it totally optional) so I think a free-to-play business model is a good thing for TF2's future.
