Trying to stay on topic. I like Tera because I can dodge, and block with some classes, attacks and so can the enemy. I play a healer and it is very fun to be able to DPS and heal my party. Having to run around because the boss charges you suddenly is cool. I really enjoyed that.
I have not played GW2, didn't make the Beta, but from what I have seen I don't think I will like it. I am a bit shallow and like nice graphics in my video games. Tera seems to have the better of the two. I will however, give GW2 a go regardless. I am not going to pre-judge GW2 based on art style, characters selection, or w/e.
Guys I was hoping to get more out of this thread for reasons to play GW2 but all i got was Tera bashing for have a stupid race. Move on please interested to see what people choose and why you want to play not why NOT.
Ah well, in that case : The dodge / block is just as much a part of GW2's combat as Tera's. You definitely need to keep on the move from a lot of enemies, and even in the low-leveled areas, going toe-to-toe like you do in other MMOs won't work in GW2 either.
The DPS + Heal is an optional part of most classes, but most of the healing is done by each person; everyone gets a self-heal skill, but you can aid others. In general though, the focus is on damage mitigation instead of simply healing up afterwards.
From what I've seen, both games are extraordinarily pretty. I will agree that graphically Tera has the advantage here, but I prefer the GW2 design aesthetics - this is a personal preference though.
The reasons I'm interested in GW2 over Tera has nothing to do with any races.
The main reason is the world itself. You get a personal, branching storyline that depends on your race and starting choices (eg, for human, you can start as a Noble, a Commoner, or a Street Rat) that will roughly guide you through some parts of the game world, but most of the "quests" come in the form of dynamic events that crop up and make the world feel like a real entity in it's own right. These events are also co-operative; for what may be the first time in an MMO, I'm actually glad to see random people running around in the world, rather than actively avoiding them. On the other hand, Tera's quests keep the same "Kill X of monster Y" that I was sick of a long time ago, which does little to foster community.
There's a lot of other reasons, but this post is already dragging on way too much already, and I get the feeling I need to stop with the typing now
