Really? Don't like him that much?Captain Bobbossa said:noAPSunder said:Do you guys think MovieBob will do a review of what he thinks are the top entrees??? I know it's not what he usually does, and not what he did last year, but I think a large percentage of the site, especially those interested in film respect him as a critic and would want to see their films reviewed by him. Am I right?
There's always tomorrow...steverivers said:The only problem with my idea of them doing it before they leave the office and clock off, is that's working on the assumption they work 9 - 5,... and not say, the last guy at the office works till 7pm or something.

There are a great many reasons why he (or anyone else on the site) probably won't do something like that - desire to avoid drama, either on the internet or with his bosses; lack of desire to sit through an hour or more of contest entries several times over in order to formulate detailed critiques; lack of ability to fit that into his schedule. Etc. etc. etc.APSunder said:Do you guys think MovieBob will do a review of what he thinks are the top entrees??? Yeah. They have been known to do that. That's great that you're still in school and already starting to get into video editing! Just keep working with it and evolve with the changes and continue to find new ways to do things! You've got a jump on things already! What type of software do you use?APSunder said:Nobody knows, unfortunately (not 4pm today apparently)Jared Hoy said:when do the videos go live?
That's so heartfelt. I hope they give out two contracts this year just for you and your son! (Being a 16 year High School Student I (fortunately) do not have a 2 year old son and can't say I want the job out of necessity, just to tell the story)mm2publish said:I haven't heard anything from them at all today and I've been trying to reach them since midnight. They do have a job posting on Craigslist Raleigh/Durham for a video editor, and I have replied to them and let them know that I'm interested, but heard nothing back from them about it. It does require you to live in Durham, NC. though. I want to win this because I have a 2 yr. old son and would love to work from home and be able to watch him grow up.APSunder said:I'm sure you're right, I just wasn't sure if being close to their office might mean better communication and make it more likely for them to hire you/work with you in real life. Anyway, good luck and let us know if you get anymore of these insider messages on when the videos are gettin posted.mm2publish said:Oh. No Way! You can be from anywhere in the world and win! This is a signed contract to produce videos for them from anywhere! I would love to win but I don't stand any better chance than anyone else from anywhere else. I live maybe 25-30 miles from their home office and I am surprised at how few people from this area are on here other than the staff. Don't worry man. If you have the best video (and I've seen some from some of the contestants as well as last years winner) you will win! It doesn't matter where you live.APSunder said:I imagine it takes some coding for the contest, or they have to put the beginnings and ending scene clips on the videos, or they're designing graphics for the contest, or whatever. Though I think they'll be up today at, like 5pm EST or tomorrow.
Do you think that'd make them pick you over someone who lives overseas (I live in New Jersey, so with all the hate by cable t.v. I guess that automatically means I'll never win based on location. As John Stewart would put it: "Sometimes the light at the end of the tunnel isn't the promise land, it's just New Jersey." But hey...for every Jersey Shore and Cake Boss, at least we have shows...set in New Jersey (despite being fictional) like House, Boardwalk Empire, and The Sopranos!)mm2publish said:Ok. So how many of you are going up the line sizing up the competition? Do any of you live here near Durham, NC.? I see a few from Canada, and a couple from MN. and some anonymous location posts.
Yeah. I certainly hope not because we would all look like crap if he did! Did you hears what he just said about "Monsters"? I can only imagine what he would say about some of our stuff!my_ledge_ends said:There are a great many reasons why he (or anyone else on the site) probably won't do something like that - desire to avoid drama, either on the internet or with his bosses; lack of desire to sit through an hour or more of contest entries several times over in order to formulate detailed critiques; lack of ability to fit that into his schedule. "And then it will be our day!"mm2publish said:Ok. Just got some word!!!
They are trying to have it up by tomorrow! They had a large amount of last minute entries and are trying to get through them all!
That's the insider scoop!
So, basically we still don't know exactly when, but it's confirmed they are working hard on it!
I guess I shall check back tomorrow then if that's the case.mm2publish said:Ok. Just got some word!!!

I too put together a theme song. I used just my guitar and Garage Band on my macbook. I did the brunt of my editing in Vegas but had to use AE for some stuff (motion tracking, ick)."And then it will be our day!"
"Our day in 1 day!"
Anyway--Final Cut Pro for editing (used to use Adobe Premiere Elements and I do not think that in any way there is a $600 difference in the two programs lol)
After Effects for fx
Celtx for screenwriting
And I have a friend that did some custom music with his band (3 minute theme song, intro music, credits music) for our entry and I'm not sure what he uses but it sounds good!
Yahtzee reviewed the games that were submitted to be the official Zero Punctuation game and he criticized them, but he criticized them "lightly" and pointed out the things he didn't like in addition to the things he liked. And I'm not sure about you guys, but I think, if Bob understands that you PROBABLY weren't working with pro actors, a $1000 budget, and probably aren't a professional, he'd be able to see that, hey, maybe these did take a lot of work and effort.mm2publish said:Yeah. That's great! That is some heavy equipment! I have 2 video editing programs (non Adobe) one is made by Magix and it's called video editor pro. I've used Adobe in the past but I have a new computer (viao) and it didn't come with it so I priced it online and they want $2600.00 for the creative suite! OMG! That's insane! I also have a multi track audio editor.APSunder said:"And then it will be our day!"mm2publish said:Ok. Just got some word!!!

He criticized the writing and acting, though - he wasn't all that critical of the cinematography. Not to mention that, even though it was an indie director, he was still a "professional". Most (if not all) of the entries will be from amateurs; the same standards don't necessarily apply, if but for the fact that "Monsters" benefited from a studio presence, something most (if not all) amateurs don't have access to. With getting into too much more detail (how many of the videos had even 15 grand to throw around? That's a lot of money for a lot of people), even an indie film like "Monsters" is thusly in a much larger playing field than most Escapist entrants.mm2publish said:Yeah. I had $60, a bag of MnMs and my mp3 player.my_ledge_ends said:That's a lot of money for a lot of people), even an indie film like "Monsters" is thusly in a much larger playing field than most Escapist entrants.
