Hey guys, Alex and I really enjoyed entering this thing last year with 'Kounter'. So we have decided to have another go at it with something a little different. I was wondering though, what formats are acceptable for upload? We shot this on 1080p AVCHD, but I know that won't be the format we send it up on. Is an mp4 in H.264 format at 1280x720 okay?

Is there also a file size limit for the thumbnail? I know at 300x300 we are not breaking the bank or anything, but should I keep it respectable?

Hello everyone,

New user here. I've been working on my own project for a year now and I've finally put together a great cast of characters with a great idea and I am extremely excited to work on this project for some time to come.

I have a 5-minute submission ready that I can enter into the contest, but I just wanted to make sure I cleared up one issue before I submit... If I don't win the contest, can I still continue my project/idea outside of the Escapist? I know that the Escapist owns the copyrights to anything submitted (which in this case would be the contest entry), but I'm unclear on whether they would own the intellectual property as well (the concept for the series).

If anyone could clear this up for me, it'd be much appreciated! BTW, I've already PM'ed SpinWhiz, but (being a new user) I'm not 100% sure how the hierarchy works around here.

Thanks!

Last year I am pretty sure anything that we sent in that didn't win could have been continued without The Escapist. They own the contest submission though, so don't go sending that out anywhere else. I am pretty sure it's the same thing this year.

Thanks Vignette.

I got a response from SpinWhiz and he confirmed exactly what you just said. So for anyone else with my question, you can continue the series outside of the Escapist if you do not win.

I just wanted to be a paranoid freak and check on sometime. I submitted my video about two days ago, and then went to my email and sent in the thumbnail. I realize now that I send the thumbnail from an email other than the email listed under my escapist account. I don't think this would be an issue, but I wanted to check and make sure everything was a-okay. Also, I'm nervous waiting for the email confirmation that my video has been accepted. Sorry to be such a bother.

I don't think we are supposed to get any kind of e-mail confirmation. But um, I could very well be wrong about that.

MP4 H.264 is great, and it's nice to know that you can do 1080p AVCHD, but your 720p will be down-converted to 480p anyway for the purposes of the contest. See my post on page 3.

Alright that is fine, we sent it in a few days ago under the title 'BETA'. It was 720p, but the file size was still under 200mb and it seemed to transfer okay. My only concern is our audio, our real external mic died and went to microphone heaven. So we used the built in Mic on the camera. However, I tweaked it as best I could so I am sure the audio will be fine.

Thanks for all the help guys, can't wait to see everyones projects!

Your upload was successful. As for the audio, I can't say one way or another. It's up to the judges to determine if it makes a difference.

Thanks for the confirmation CaptainCrunch!

I hope everyone enjoys it, and I think I can live with the audio for now.

Just uploaded an entry. 4:38 minutes long, 720p quality, 230MB filesize.
It's fine if we're slightly over the filesize limit, right? The rules said 200MB was "preferable", and I got the impression that runtime was more important.

Anyway, to whom do we send the thumbnail to go with it?

You send it to the e-mail [email protected], it needs to be 300x300 in jpg, gif, or png. You need to put your video name and your user name in the e-mail as well. (I don't work for the site, I am just a fellow contestant)

All the rules and stuff are up on this page here. Have a read.

Video submitted! Definitely had my cameraman bail on me and only had one day to shoot, but I think it came out pretty well!

Looking forward to seeing everyone's stuff!

My condolences, good sir. Getting reliable people to work with is the biggest problem with undertaking awesome video projects.

I've been working on an idea for over a year now and I hope my submission reflects the amount of work that's been put into it. I can't tell you how many flakes I've had in the past year. But hang in there, you will find the right people to work with!

Shit, sounds like there is alot of epic competition this year... hmmm, oh well fingers crossed.

Also, when will the competition acctually start and end? (by which I mean when will the videos be up and when will the winners be announced?)
