You know, speaking of that, I was wondering... I have my own camera now, and even though I know I could never do any decent photography work, what're the biggest "cliche" no-nos of photo subjects?

High-exposure photos of faces. Cliched silhouettes. There aren't very many pictures of powerlines that I've seen recently that have ever interested me. I dunno, I'm not photographer, I just know what I like. Talk to Diagonal Horizontality (sp?) or Pi Fighter or... shit I'm forgetting all the photographers now that it's actually relevant.

If you're posting here, I'd prefer you were either contributing material to the thread or providing comments and crits (C&C). Obviously I'm not a mod or ruler of the thread or anything, but as an active member of the Escapist artist community, I find it annoying when we get posts like this:
GOOD GOD SO MANY POSTS

The artist in me?
I'm a photographer, but I don't publish my work on the Net.
I'm also a great Film editor and Camera Man.

Gah, it would figure that I would ask a photography question when the best people for answering it are gone.

Then again, Pi hasn't been around in ages... I don't think he even comes here anymore.

I really haven't kept track of who leaves and stays. The amount of attention I pay to the community beyond Escape Artists and IRC is rather laughable. I can't even keep track of who the viral posters are these days.

I'm referring to here, anyway. He's been gone practically half a year. It's a shame, but everyone leaves sometime or another.

Sorry then. Could you at least keep the names out. Somewhat humiliating. Anyways. I shoot whatever fancies my interests barring nudes. I'm in the woods a lot so I have plenty of panoramas. I borrow my Dad's 40D when I'm birding. A 400m lens serves well for the purpose. And yeah, keep away from cliches and mess around with settings.

I've written a couple songs. Here's my latest. Note: The first part is the chorus.

Every night I weep
Because I cannot get to sleep
So I'm forced to think about you
And there's nothing I can do
I wish I were with you...

I'm forced to see you everyday
And I can't find the words to say
It's as easy as I love you
But I still can't seem to
Be, what you want
What you need to see

Chorus

I hate being so shy
Although I come off wishing to die
I think about you
And all the things I've yet to do
It's not my time
You're my eternal sign

Chorus x2

Everynight I weep
Because I cannot get to sleep
No, that's not true
It's because I love you.

Just a question to anyone... When the hell did poetry stop rhyming? I read couple in this thread, it annoys me.

He's still here, he just changed his name to Diagonal Horizontality.

Names removed from my post. You can edit your quote of me to eliminate the names in that one. Look, I know I was being a bit of an asshole. That post just happened to be on the page. The reason I singled out that post is because its the kind of post we get pretty frequently, where its something where someone could contribute given that they have artistic talents, but don't. Look, I understand the whole 'not sharing on the internet' thing. I have never put up any of my actual drawings or paintings on the net because I feel that there is something lost in the translation from one medium to another. I do, however, have a lot of time spent doing digital painting, which is why I contribute those. But even if I didn't, I would still probably be commenting and critiquing others' work. To clarify: The reason I singled you out is because I am interested in what you have to contribute to the thread, you just didn't in that post. I'm sorry that I come off as an elitist here, I just really care about this thread.

So the two people I recommended he talk to are one in the same, eh? I thought that DH changed his name from something else, or was that something else a name change from Pi Fighter?

Glad you taken interest and that you actually keep up with your topics. It's not really of "don't want to because of Privacy", but rather "No cash for a personal website." I would be uploading photos if I had the money to run a site, but alas, I am forced to post photos on face book only.

Pi_Fighter was a different account entirely. He dropped back into obscurity as 3.1415926, then changed the name to DH.I was TRYING to be "oblivious" to it to help him stay hidden, but I guess since some people don't really wanna try and help... =_=

So it unravels...
I don't really care either way. I enjoy his presence. Now I just have to unravel the secrets behind IBM and RAM. Their acronyms just seem too in tune.

There are always services like photobucket, which is what I currently use to post images on this site. If you feel like it, give it a shot. I'm always happy to see new work from new people.

Are these 3D models?
There's something oddly grainy about them. Is that the 'bad translation' from photobucket you spoke of?
I can't say much when it comes to 3D modeling because I have not a lot of experience in it. But, I suppose, considering what I want to do and considering the fact that I have 3D studio max on my computer, I should delve into that realm soon enough. I take screenshots of these from a different angle, the way you've angled them makes them look very 2-Dimensional. That could clear things up a bit. Other than that I don't have a lot of advice to offer. Talk to me in a few months after I've learned and done some modeling.

Not exactly art but here's two things I made in maya, they're not very good but some honest criticism would be nice. I just mess around with maya for fun. the images don't translate too well to and from photobucket.
Question concerning these pictures. Were they saved in a GIF format? That might explain the "grainy" look that Fightfarr mentioned. It's either that, or Photobucket just borked the image quality...

Most of my work can be seen here. http://heuts.org

I'm cool enough to have my own website.

I loved the second one, it took me a while to realize it was a streetlight.

The first and third seemed a bit cliched, though. The whole sunrise/sunset thing's been done by about everyone. (I dunno why.) Maybe try adding a unique perspective into the sunrise/sunset?
Fightgarr said:
Berethond is right. The second one is the most interesting. The other two are nice photos, but the silhouette at dawn/dusk has been done to death in photography. If you can find a way to make it your own, go ahead and do it, I just find them less interesting than the middle photo.
Yeah I know what you mean, they're not too original.
But as I said, I've only just started this, so I don't really know what's regarded as boring or not.

My main interest is writing stories. I was nearly finished a book when my old computer crashed permanently and I lost everything (the hard drive was too riddled with viruses to risk saving). I sort of lost interest after that.

I do have this poem-thing I wrote one day in a study class to try and keep myself awake.
Poetry's not my thing, so it's not great, but it's something I'd consider doing more of in the future.

Futile Resistance

Words lose meaning,
the room grows dark -
it can't be helped.

Reluctantly I'm gone -
darkness takes me,
but not for long.

I'm back.

Words gain meaning,
the room grows bright.
Guilty glances around.

I'm safe.
Repeat.
