The Big Picture: Groan Saga

Why do I keep hearing this line that the comic had written itself into a corner with MJ? There's almost too many solutions, not the least of which is a simple break-up; their relationship was in constant jeopardy anyway, and it wouldn't be the first girl Spider-Man broke up with who was aware of his secret identity. And that's assuming that it's even a problem; even if Mary Jane had never existed (ha), Spider-Man would still have loved ones to protect by maintaining his cover. And even if you're just averse to Peter's monogamy, you can't deny that it's a natural extension of the premise, and that it really should work. In fact, I can think of at least one instance of it being imitated (ever seen Batman Beyond?).

The Clone Saga was the worst Spider-Man arc? Have you forgotten about One More Day, or did you just erase it from your mind like other Spidey fans have done?

I think he considers that just a continuation of what Marvel does in the Clone saga. Man am I ever glad I stopped reading both Marvel and DC. Give me manga and mangwha any day! At least with them if their bad I can laugh it up.

See, this is why I read Japanese Manga. Their is a beginning, a middle, and a end. (and no, I don't read DBZ) We get a good ass story, and we get to eventually move on.

American comic books needs to take a hint and start retiring their character so that they can move onto new ones. If they die, let them stay dead, and have a brand new character take their place, it can even be part of their organ story. Spider-man can retire, and later have him return as a mentor for a new hero.

OH MY GOD! I totally agree, that is why I stopped reading Marvel and DC in the 90's thanks to Viz Media and other copies for their translations. The funny thing is I ran across the superhero RPG Mutants and Masterminds that takes your idea to heart, and I thought that it would have been great if the American comic books industry would take that as their model.

The same happens in the 2010 era as well: Fall of the Hulks. Yugh. Seriously: Lyra should never have become mainstream, A-Bomb is ridiculous, Hiro-Kala should never have existed, and Red Hulk punching The Watcher and breaking Hulk's arm... don't get me started.

I grew up a comic geek, and part of me still is, but I'm much more into manga now. There's one author and therefore one continuity, which is just much easier to follow.

the other thing is the question of "How old is Batman, Superman, Spider-man, Iron-Man, and all the others." The answer is "OLD" They all been around so long, and with all the back story, that new fans can't just get into them. They are still iconic, and with the movies and cartoons, they do have new fans, but nobody is going to care much about the comic-books anymore.

I think it's because America can't just let something good go, it's probably why the Simpsons still has new episodes. A re-imagining is fine, but not so much when the original is literally still going on. At least with manga, you can tell when the story is coming to a close. (Mahou Sensei Negima!, Claymore, and The World God Only Knows, are on my top list)

Hey don't diss my era D:< I was born in the 90's you know.

And it wasn't completely bad. Sure the comics were crap for the most, i will admit, but we had awesome music and some really decent cartoon shows.
