Someone YOU DON"T KNOW. Read the entire post.
Many people don't know themselves nearly as well as they think they do. In fact, I would imagine most people have a greatly inflated view of themselves.

Probably not. A deal like that seems like the type where it follows the deal to the letter. Something you didn't think of will happen and then you'll go "WHY? WHY DID I MAKE A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL!"

Example fine-letter screw over: You watch the person die right in front of you. Press the button and next day when you go to work you randomly see someone get horrifically killed by car. Plus forever after when someone died near you, you'd being thing "Was that my fault?"

If the deal didn't have some sinister hidden part of it, then I'd used the money I got for a good cause. Give it charity, finance a school or university, raise awareness for a cause, finance my own personal plot to make a utopia. In that case I'd do it. But otherwise I'm against taking another person's life so the sole purpose of benefiting yourself. But I'm not against "volunteering" martyrs for a just cause.

What if the person who you killed was a pilot who was flying 200 orphaned kids somewhere and the plane crashed on Jurassic park. Then I bet you would feel really bad about pushing that button.
That would be horrible....all those dead dinosaurs.

Anyway, I wouldn't push it, I wouldn't even give it a thought, no pushy the button for me.

Absolutely not. Not in a million years. Not if I were living in a cardboard box underneath a leaky bridge. I couldn't, in good conscience, harm another for my own gain, let alone kill them. If, like in the movie/short story, my spouse or partner pushed it, the guilt would drive me over the edge and I'd probably kill myself. Which, in a way, would fulfill the box's prophecy.
After all, "You didn't know your spouse, did you?"

The people would die, and after that you could feel good knowing that because they died they will feel no more pain evar again.
So... Do you cut yourself with your username? Because that is the most emo thing I have read in a while. Kudos are to be given to you sparky.

OT: You know what, no going to hell or other consequences? Yeah I think I would and not for these immature trendy misanthrope reasons some kids have given up to this point. There is something about not know that makes it easier to just be that selfish. How would you know who you killed. It's much much harder when you know the person, and know the effect it's going to have on their family and the people that loved them. Then again I couldn't actually know for certain until presented with the option.

I would push the button...that says 'search' beside the bar at the top right hand corner of the Escapist.

This topic has been repeated with X amount of variations, so I will post the same answer as I always do: yes, and I would spam it.
As seen on a rooster teeth short film.

Ugh. Guys. Think about it. I haven't seen the movie, but it is really predictable The button will either kill him, or his wife.

It's as simple as that.

So no, I wouldn't.

I really can't believe some of these replies. You'd kill someone off just because you'd get a mill? Such greed.

What if it was someone's baby? Someone's mother? Jesus...
Thousands die every day in third world countries so you can live in a state of semi-comfort seasoned with quiet desperation. Do you care? Fuck no, you don't know those people.

Basically, you'll press that button at least a thousand times in your life and not see more than a few bucks each time.

I see your point, but I am I the main cause of their deaths? Did I deliberately say "Yes, those bastards need to die?" No, I'm not. But pushing the button means YOU ARE the main cause. And of you own decision to boot. That'll just make me guilty.

Thing is, you're complicit in their deaths. Its just funny how one can be complicit in the deaths of millions, not care, then falter when faced with responsibility for the death of one.

Having saw the movie (which I thought was horrible BTW) I obviously wouldn't. If the scenario presented didn't end with
someone else pushing the button and killing you
then I'd have to say that hell yes, I would push it. It makes me a hypocrite, but hey - a million dollars.
