The group turned, now headed by the old man, to face an open door rich with the clashing of steel. The long doors to the throne room. Turning in, and walking down the red carpet lined with pillars, the group proceeded.
They could see three definite lines of fighting with a bit in between.
The heaviest cluster was in front of the king, whom stayed on the high ground and stabbed at any foes foolish enough to successfully by-pass the line. Though that was quite some challenge, as there were at least 17 Royal Guards.
These unknown assailants who'd turned on their own king were quite ferocious, however.
The second line was in the middle of the room, with an equal number of Royal Guards bobbing about in winged helms, as well as black clad men.
However, the line just in front of them consisted of a dozen assailants whom surrounded two Royal Guard's. Back to back, long blades on the end of long shafts dancing ffrom side to side to keep their opponents at bay.
The guard who'd come with them charged forward, with a cry of "For the king!".

Don't go beyond a wave, but you can kill the guys in the first wave, perhaps with some minor control of the guards.
