"We're after something called the Tarnished Font," Andrew said as he walked beside Rios, "and you missed out all the fun already."
Was it not the Varnished Font at first ?

"Yes and you also missed quite an interesting display of magic long thought lost to the ages." Jack added

"Magic?" Rios looked at Jack. "I thought those days were over. Well if magic is back there must be a chance for this city. Whatever you're on to...im in" Rios smiled and sat down nearby.

Acj, you're right, "Varnished" Font. Sorry. Where'd I say Tarnished?

The two guards beckoned for the group to follow, through the portcullis and into the Southern Market District.

Signs of a downtrodden and abandoned city were abundant. Most doors were boarded over, most windows broken, some buildings burned in their lots. There were shingles fallen and cracked on the ground, at one point enough to fill half the road. On top of some of the buildings where shingles were missing were constructed shacks and shanty houses. They were all abandoned.

Save for one. The group came to a place in the road where a cart was turned onto its side, with crates and barrels to either side. Spikes stood out from behind them, pointing at the group as if denying them access.

There, to the right of the road, was a building whose door didn't quite seem to match it. That was to say, the door seemed quite home built. Nails protruded at places, some of the panels of wood were painted different colors and were different sizes. The top hinge was coated in rust, while the other one was fine, if it'd seen better days. On top of that house, there was a shack with a lit fire.

The guards looked worriedly at the barricade.

"Wasn't this supposed to be three blocks down?" Asked one guard to the other.

"Maybe there still is one, and they've added."

"Maybe someone wants to stop us here..." observed the other. They looked at each other, and then at the group.

"Oi, you lot, make yourselves useful and find a way past the barricade. One of these buildings is bound to have a way to get past. Check the cellars and the attics, don't leave a copper mark unturned!" With that, they returned to looking at the barricade, and muttering under there breath, half-spoken words you wouldn't understand, because the other half hadn't come out.

Rios looked at them all. "Guys, guys guys...ive been here before, i can show you a cellar passage to that house over there" Rios pointed at a house on the other side of the barricade.

"But the passage isnt deserted and im pretty sure, seeing guards down there will ... stur things up a bit"

Rios looked worried.

"You see, in one cellar there is an illegal game of cards hosted everyday, it should be ending in about an hour. Do you want to barge in, or wait until the game is over? The players are well armed..."

Rios looked at the house on their right.
OOC: No, I'm afraid you CAN'T, because, you see, you know what I say you know.

Sorry about that man, but I'm meaning for something particular to happen here.

Thank you! How thoughtful of you to take his place. I'll keep this in mind. To answer his question, the shack is on-top of the building, therefore he'll have to enter the main building (which is three stories, sorry for not making that clear).

"I would advise caution in checking the shack." Jack warned
"A fire would mean someone lives there, and they may not be all that welcoming to unexpected guests. I will check the first floor and look for a basement so we might head under or around the barricade. Join me if you wish."

"Yeah alright"
Rios said and looked over to Jack.

"I can join you"
Rios walked towards the house and knocked on the door, no-one answered.
"Hello?"
Rios said as he opened the door slowly and motioned Jack to follow.

Martin followed them into the house, drawing his long knife. It would be far more useful in the close confines of the house.
"I'll check the second floor. What should we be looking for though?" said Martin, the confusion evident in his voice.

Rios looked over to Martin.
"Well i'd guess something indicating a way past, just search until you find something other than broken furniture and rotten food i guess"

Rios walked further into the house, crushing vegetables and other miscellaneous in his path.

The room was dark and damp, floor-boards torn up in some places.

At one point, an arm chair that had once been red but was now faded and gray was sticking out of the floor at an angle.

There were stairs on the right wall, the end of them about halfway through the building. Aside from the main room, there was one behind the stairs with no door.

There was no visible path down, and whatever was below them was obscured by the dark. Dripping water could be heard from below.

Rios walked out of the house and to the barricade.
"Anyone find something yet!?" He yelled.

He noticed someone opened a window, showed a grumpy face at him and then bang it shut.
"Quite the grumpy bunch these folk are. Situation is much much better in The Bogarts"

Rios went back into the house, grabbed one of the still whole chairs, dragged it outside and sat on it in front of the barricade.

"Right."
He exhaled.

Martin walked warily up the stairs, being carefull not to make a sound. Thank god for all that quiet stalking in the terrace he thought to himself.
As he moved further up the stairs it began to get darker. By the time he got to the second floor he couldn't see his hand in front of his face.
He heard a soft scrape coming from nearby and moved his knife ready to defend himself.
He backed to the stairs and reached out to the bannister.
He winced at the loud crack of dry wood breaking as pulled off one of the railings and lay it down next to him, making sure he made as little sound as possible.
He tore some of the cloth from his cloak and wrapped it around the wood to make a torch.
All of a sudden he heard a shout from below. What little chance of stealth that remained was now long gone. He muttered a soft curse under his vreath at the incompetance of whomever shouted. if i get killed he thought to himself I'm haunting that guy
He stood and lit his torch. A crow suddenly burst out of the hall and flew into his face surprising him, sending him stumbling back to the stairs. reaching the top he lost his balance and fell, hitting the bottom with an audible thump.
He stood up and brushed himself off feeling battered and abused. "Someone else can check the second floor" he grumbled.
He sat on the step leading to the house and nursed his sorely bruised arm. This is not one of my better days he thought sourly

<spoiler=sorry>I'm going away for a week. I'll be bringing my laptop so i may be able to post but i probably won't be able too. Even if i can i won't be able to post so often so if someone wants to use Martin for a week please feel free. Jest be gentle with him please.
