Rock and metal are dieing music forms. The world around us is becoming more advaced with computers and such, that instraments in rock and metal are not being lernt to people, insted they choose the easier option which is have the computer do the work. This, i think is a great shame as I'am a big fan of rock and metal and I will always be a head banger through and through no matter what anyone says becouse thats what these to forms of music are about.

If these two forms and all there sub geners die i dont think i could listen to music agian and enjoy it. We will also leave behind some the greatest cultars ever.
With out my rock and metal i don't think that i will be able to go like a normal person becouse metal ecpeshilly is one to blow of steam, and also when i feel i have nothing i will listen to metal and feel iam apart of something big

I leave you with this Escapies, if metal and rock were to die would you care and would you fight the metro's techno shit to techno dies. I know i would, would you.

How it should be written said:
Rock and metal are dying as genres. Computer advancements lead to the replacement of musicians playing instruments with a program. Personally, I find this a shame as I am a large fan of both genres. Headbanging is my chosen means of expressing this loyalty.

I don't believe I could continue to enjoy music if these two were to die. Some of the great cult guitar themes would also be left behind. Without rock and metal, I believe my capacity to function normally would be impeded, metal especially, as I find it quite cathartic to listen to, along with giving me a significant sense of belonging.

I leave you, Escapists, with this. Were metal and rock to die out as genres, would you care? Would you deride the music I dislike, produced by people whose sexuality and masculinity I choose to question, until it too faced a genre 'death'? As you can no doubt assume based upon this triage, I would.

I will fight to keep Rock true to its form. Metal I'm not as passionate about.

Also slowly dying is Jazz, which is getting split into too many sub-forms. I f*cking hate Pop-Jazz fusion...

EDIT: If worst comes to worse, I'll just stop listening to mainstream. Call me an elitist but I have very specific tastes when it comes to music.

I would start a arena shaking rock band and play any gig and festival and blow everyone away, playing original songs and covers of great rock/metal songs. Yeah, that show those people who use computers over guitars.

Erm... dying? Since when? I haven't really noticed any decline in amount of guitar or any other instrumental music at all over last years. I could complain about quality, sure, but that's my music taste rather than fault of electronica.

Both genres, metal and electronica evolved in nearly same time and both went through the same stages. Both are far from dying as well.
Thing is while real instrument music if all fine and dandy for home, mp3 player or gigs where i can pogo freely, when i go to club i like something with more beat to it, something you can actually dance to so my choice there is industrial/ebm/synth etc.

I don't see how either of the genres is dying.

Yes, it's definitely dying.

Just because other genres are starting to pick up doesn't mean others are dying.

Spelling also seems to be a dying art...

Also, no, it's not dying, you're being a music elitist. Besides, no serious electronic musician uses a computer only, most electronic music is still done with synthesizers, drum machines and samplers, and they take quite some skill to use.

This trend of metalheads to go out of their way to have their genre declared as "special", "dying" or otherwise is quite irksome to be frank, I'm afraid metal isn't quite as "nonconformist" as some wish to be.

I don't agree at all. Over the last five or six years Folk has undergone an enormous resurgence. If Folk is doing well I can't believe that Rock and Metal are dying. I'm trying to start or join a new musical project at the moment and all I can find are Hard Rock and Metal bands!

If metal was about to die, I would fight for it (I appreciate Rock but don't listen to it much anymore) But I wouldn't wipe out another kind of music, the one type of person who I hate more than the people who say that only the music they like is good (Note: I appreciate good music, but will state if it's not the kind of thing I'd listen to) is the people who say they like a certain type of music because everyone else does.

Also the music I like is still very much alive, and as I like Death Metal bands from 1984-2001 and know there are quite a few people who still love them as much as me (Unfortunatly I don't know many in real life) I don't think it will be dying for a while (Music tastes generally come from the type of music you hear as a child, if you account for how many people who'd listen to metal and such and have children it is possible that rock and metal will continue to be a hit for a long time)

Know what's also tragic? The dying art of proper spelling. "Dying." Not "dieing." Just look at the way you spelled it. It looks like it's struggling to be a word.

I used to bemoan the loss of metal but then I found out about European progressive metal bands, whose music isn't just awesome, it's better than most of what passed for metal in the late 70's through the early 90's in the United States. Check out Firewind, Hammerfall, and Rhapsody of Fire for starters. There's plenty more where that came from if you just know where to look. Specific songs to look for: "Any Means Necessary" and "I Will Fight Alone," for starters, by Hammerfall and Firewind respectively. Look up Joe Satriani's "Crystal Planet" while you're at it--he ain't progressive metal, he's something else, and that's all I can say about him, but I bet you'll find something you enjoy among his stuff.

As a music industry professional I can assure you that this isn't true. Crappy rock and metal music is everywhere, in more places than it's ever been before. Worthless goddamn metal bands breed like rabbits, especially in working-class neighbourhoods where bored suburban kids learn guitars because they want to be "cool" or entertain some lame hyper-masculine fantasy to reclaim some of the power that seems oh-so-distant in their actual real lives.

Okay, I'm being a bit mean, occasionally there's good bands too, but not fucking often enough for my liking. If you ask me electronic music can't kill rock fast enough - unfortunately this will never happen, and metal is here to stay. In the meantime don't worry. There's a shithouse metal band near you, and if you live in a low-rent area like I do there's probably at least two just on your block.

If rock and metal died I would probably never buy a CD ever again. Though I don't think that will ever happen, nor do i think it's happening. It's just that now most of the new good bands are from Sweden and Finland so they're more obscure here.

They're also raising a generation of children on things like "HeviSaurus" Yeah, that's Finland's substitute for Barney.

I dont listen to metal in the hopes of being nonconformist. I listen to it because its fucking kickass!!! :p

OT: Not it's not dying. Changing, in some cases. But thats what happens to everything as time passes.

Helloween is still realeasing albums and Manowar too, those are pretty damn oldschool, and metal. But new bands are forming that are also awesome.

Edguy (not so new anymore), Machinae Supremacy, Rhapsody (their first 3 CDs at least...), Nightwish (even if they are dead to me now with the departure of Tarja ;( ) there is a lot of metal going around. It doesnt sound like Black Sabbath anymore, but as I said everything changes in time.

the shit is pop jazz fusion?
Pop-fusion

The mellow, bland, romantic music that came to be called "fusion jazz" in the following decade was largely the product (a very commercial product) of mediocre musicians such as Chuck Mangione and Al Jarreau, and of derivative bands such as Spyro Gyra and Yellowjackets.
I happen to know of a university group in Saskatchewan that plays like this but worse. The lyrics, my god the lyrics!

*rages*

My fear is that this up and coming band's "style" becomes accepted by the general public as the definition of jazz. Should they make money, copycats will certainly arise and mimic it and ARRRGGGH!

This.

What's considered "mainstream" nowadays is simply music that is easily spoonfed to people who have no passion for music. It's not evil or anything. Just lazy music for lazy listeners. TV and radio have basically degraded into this. But, my friends, the internet is an amazing tool. With it, music of all kinds has the ability to thrive and be shared around the world. Moreover, local music scenes are on the uprise - at least in my side of the US.
