Also slowly dying is Jazz, which is getting split into too many sub-forms. I f*cking hate Pop-Jazz fusion...
What is Pop-Jazz?

40's Jazz Standards?

Big Band Vocal Jazz?

Acid Jazz?

Ever heard the works of Arjen A Lucassen's projects?
Listen to those and tell me metal is dying. Anyway, he uses a lot of computers in his.
Not that they replace real instruments though.

Rock and Metal aren't dying and "techno" as you put it isn't new. They are all huge genres, made more obvious by the recent massive boost in rock/metal festivals in Europe (don't know about USA). What makes me sad is that you can't appreciate other music for what it is. I have a few favourite bands etc, but I don't hate all dance music or hip hop, or blues, or jazz because of it. If you judge everything by one arbitrary designation, you re going to lead an inexperienced (and unfulfilled) life.

Someone should get an image going like the PC gaming dying since 1985 going here. Just stick a lot of ablum covers on it from bands over the last 30+years.

Things were better in the ol' days

Good grief, people have been complaining about the 'decline of X subject' for about...hmm...last time I checked...FOREVER!

No, it's not declining or dieing, and neither is the internet, or videogames, or the film industry, or democracy, or religion, or music, or 'proper' art, or common sense, or goodness in general

Rose Tinted Glasses

That is all

1) Your post makes me think the art of correct spelling is a dying...

2) I know right. How dare these pussies be so lazy as to let computers do the work for them.
Its like when all those pansies started using electric guitars and drum sets. Fuck man, what sorta lazy ass pansy has all their drums laid right out there in front of them. And dont even get me started on the bloody kick stands...[/sarcasm]

Tools evolve. Deal with it. Not unless you want people to go back to hitting rocks with sticks and blowing on animal horns.

I'm even embarassed on knowing what a juggalo is, can't imagine how you're feeling at this moment as you've just admitted to be one.

Erm... dying? Since when? I haven't really noticed any decline in amount of guitar or any other instrumental music at all over last years. I could complain about quality, sure, but that's my music taste rather than fault of electronica.

Both genres, metal and electronica evolved in nearly same time and both went through the same stages. Both are far from dying as well.
Thing is while real instrument music if all fine and dandy for home, mp3 player or gigs where i can pogo freely, when i go to club i like something with more beat to it, something you can actually dance to so my choice there is industrial/ebm/synth etc.

I don't see how either of the genres is dying.
Well you pretty much summed up what I was going to say.

Really? I was thinking spelling.
No kidding.

Anyway, rock and metal are alive and well today. I've seen amazing concerts this year alone in the US, Germany, Bulgaria, Romania and Spain, and each show has been packed with screaming fans, young and old. It may not be getting a lot of airplay, but if you need the radio to find your music, the radio isn't the problem...

If rock and metal died I would probably never buy a CD ever again. Though I don't think that will ever happen, nor do i think it's happening. It's just that now most of the new good bands are from Sweden and Finland so they're more obscure here.

They're also raising a generation of children on things like "HeviSaurus" Yeah, that's Finland's substitute for Barney.
This is a kid's thing? And I thought the Scandanavians couldn't gey better.

On topic, spoilered to save space.
Megadeth disagree
As do Judas Priest
Plus Iron Maiden
Disturbed
And Mastodon
EDIT-damn, almost forgot Metallica
Tenacious D's take on this thread.

I am sick almost to the point of being bed bound of people like the OP.

People that only listen to metal/rock and claim it to be the only decent genre and they always have an air of superiority about them. I will say this once, all genres are great and it's very close-minded to stick to on genre and ignorantly claim that everything else sucks.

Also your rock and metal music most likely used computers to clean up the recording.

I feel just fine. I'm just a fan of a group and nothing more.

I will fight to keep Rock true to its form. Metal I'm not as passionate about.

EDIT: If worst comes to worse, I'll just stop listening to mainstream. Call me an elitist but I have very specific tastes when it comes to music.
For lack of a better post.... This.

I really enjoy some electronic music forms, but Rock is iconic and won't just die.
Some of (in my opinion) the best Electronic acts would be nothing without Rock anyway. *cough*Pendulum*cough*.

Rock and metal aren't dying. They sure as hell are shit nowadays, though.

Of course, there's always an undercurrent that's pretty good, but to be fair? Real progress is made in the genres where "traditional" genres are being fused with electronica.

I love Finland. So much.

Gah. I'm going to turn into some new obnoxious internet thing soon (Finaboo? Oh shit, I gave it a name...dammit).

Eh, I think music started dieing when people started defining good music as "Rocks"

I don't even hate Rock, I just think its a bloated opinion to say good music has to rock.
