The final boss is never the hardest boss, is it?

King Dee Dee Dee and the weird face with really big hands from Kirby stand out as final bosses that were harder than all other bosses but apart from them I cant think of any.

EDIT: Oh actually Super Smash Brawl's last boss is pretty damn hard compared to the rest.

phantasy star portable's last boss is annoying
As is the last boss of Phantasy Star Zero and the end bosses from Phantasy Star Online Episodes 1,2 and 4.

The most memorable adherence to the rule was Abyssion from Tales of Symphonia, especially on Mania.

The Giant White Thing at the end of Drakengard 1; you know, the boss that was optional if you weren't sick of the game, its lousy mechanics, and its stupid plot twists? You spat rings at it from the dragon's back, and in the extremely unlikely you actually managed to beat it, you are then SHOT DOWN BY A JET PLANE (starting Nier's story, btw).

Strangely enough, the sequel, Nier, had nothing but extremely easy fights with pushover bosses. Weird.

I would say the final Metroid Prime 2 boss (or the combination of the last two) are the hardest, at least if you failed to obtain all the needed upgrades and shit. I was a few missile expansions short and ran out of ammo before I was even halfway beating the Emperor Ing. Really sucked when he wouldn't drop any ammo, or ammo I needed anyway, to beat him. So I died before I could really do anything. Then I just quit because Metroid Prime 3 was coming out soon and I felt like MP2 was bullshit anyway.

Fallout 3's "final boss" was a panzy. He had a cool gun (which you could get with a glitch), but was very weak. His goons were a lot tougher.

In Streets of Rage, the hardest boss appears in stage 5 (and at the end of 8 before the final boss). The "jumpy bitches" as I call them are a recolor of the playable cahracter Blaze who jump around a lot. They are very tough to hit normally since you can't hurt them while they are in the air and they don't stay on the ground long. They are also the first boss that is always 2v1 (all bosses in 2-player mode have a clone, but up to that point in 1-player mode, the bosses were either alone or had only a goon or two as back up). They have a very bad habit of wasting your time and letting the clock kill you. The worst part is when you face them again in level 8, you have no specials (which are garunteed (god I hate trying to spell that word) hits). At least the final boss is fairly easy, even though he has a gun.

id say demons souls last boss was easyest boss ever...it doesnt even attack you and its a blob of mollasus looking goo that takes like 6 hits to kill...
It does attack with its sword, but only if you get in close. A ranged character will never be bothered by him, but a melee character might get hit a time or two.
Tis fun to try and beat him down with nothing but your FISTS OF FURY!!!!!

The final Boss RAAM in Gears of War was ridiculously hard even on Normal, more difficult than any other part of the game in my opinion. That opinion was further solidified when I played on Insane dificulty

Final Fantasy IX, the last boss was one I had the most trouble with, I had to almost max out my party just to keep myself alive... harrowing...
Also the Ninja Gaiden series... all the freakin bosses were hard.
The first Metroid Prime wasn't easy either, but Ridley was def. harder.
Metroid Zero Mission as well...
If I sit and think about it, there is a trend of endboss battles being relatively easier than the rest of the game...

I found the final boss in dragon age pretty challenging, more challenging than the rest of the game.
Personally I found the High Dragon at mid level to be the toughest battle in the game.

I usually like these extra bosses that encourage you to grind the rest of it out. Ruby and Emerald weapons are a good example, and the boss hidden in a chest on the final level that you better not open til after you beat the game.

Assassin's creed 2
a punch up with a fat bloke isn't really hard, especially since you can counter and kick his old ass up and down the vault

Persona 3's Nyx is an absolute ***** unless you've levelled in the new optional area that opens towards the end. I heard there's an optional boss there which is supposed to be impossible, though, but I haven't seen it myself. Missed some Elizabeth quests along the way. :(

I remember the end boss for Risen. It was basically a timing puzzle, and not even a very good one.

The hardest parts to the game were the last few bits (excluding the boss) involving basically a frustrating dungeon-crawler.

DAMN YOU LIZARDMEN!

Ansem in the first Kingdom Hearts. For what is sort of a children's game, that shit was pretty tough. Sephiroth was of course, harder though...

Then there's the final boss in Shadow of the Colossus which always just puts my nipples in a twist at how frustratingly difficult it is.

So, Escapists, can you think of any games where the final boss was the most difficult thing in the game?
"Beyond Good & Evil" where the attack from above is plain deadly (and forces you to redo the sequence of blocked attacks before you can try (and fail) again).

Also, the meat circus / last level of Psychonauts has gotten the best of me, because even if I can at least finish BG&E out of sheer luck after a session of frantic mashing of buttons, I never never never managed to finish Psychonauts despite the rest of the game is quite easy x_x
