Yes, but they're bonus bosses; it's - at least - a little different than key bosses (ones that are part of the storyline) being more difficult than the last boss, don't you think? I think that Tales of Symphonia, for example, also had a bonus boss that was stronger - in every way - than the final boss.

Anyway, yes - many times, the last boss doesn't seem like it was the most difficult. Of course, there are some exceptions. If I can remember correctly, the last boss in Twilight Princess was the hardest.

Very strange, I played on normal and the boss was easily killable even after one of group members died. Somewhat anticlimatic actually, the entire way to the Archdemon was a nightmare.
You're obviously a much better player than I am :p

clive barkers undying, that thing at the end was pretty hardcore.

To be fair I rarely see the final boss because I hate games with boss fights, with some exceptions, on the whole boss fights are just an annoying and frustrating break in the gameplay.

God of war the original..

Case and point: he hits you 2-3 times, dead. Next part: there so many and they hit harder than you. third form: did i...did i get to even move?

mostly on hardest diffuculty, but doesnt make it any easier!

Its true in almost every RPG.

Alos Shadow Yukiko is easy, have something thats strong to fire and use Garu on the price to make him dizzy.

Also if you want cheapness one of the later bosses can fear you and use Ghastly wail, if your feared an it connects, you die, no Hama or Mudo resistance will stop you, your gone.

Arkham Asylum's final boss, mutated titan Joker, is much easier then the pre-boss fight just before it, with the two Titans and infinite respawning regular baddies.

I beat it on hard last time, and the Joker only took me two tries, and that was only from making a stupid mistake first time around. Neither fights are particularly hard, but there's defeinitely a big gap.

Uncharted 2 TOTALLY ripped that fight off.

Gears of war RAAM I think his name is, pretty much the only boss though, but for easy final bosses I'll say super mario galaxy 1 & 2.

Fable 2 - No explanation needed
Batman: Arkham Asylum - Joker wasn't as hard as Ivy, easily.

Damn, I must've died a billion times before I figured out his week point. Definitely the hardest boss ever.

In all seriousness, though, in my opinion Borderlands counts. I do mean the final boss from the main game, not dlc, but that boss had tons of health and some ridiculously damaging attacks. I easily had more trouble with him than most bosses in the game....
Of course, Borderlands isn't all that difficult anyway, but whatever.

Who else? Demon's Soul's King Allant boss was fucking insane. He can drain one of your soul levels. Fucking cheat...

Common in RPGs for a simple reason: the last boss should to be beatable by the majority of players, or else they never see the end of the game (very important for story-driven games). However, because RPGs tend to be open-world, the designers can stick in a much harder boss that "hardcore" players can come back to if they're looking for a challenge.

Sonic 2's last boss is only hard with Knuckles, but with him it's a right bastard because Knux has a puny ass jump and so has a far shorter window where he can hit the boss and not die in return.
