Why do football players get paid a lot. But this isn't the thread to complain, that curse would stop me from going on the cover for sure. I'm not into superstition, I'm into statistics.

A while ago I thought the curse was that if you buy that god-awful game you become a loser forever.

To be honest, i think they deserve it, but thats mostly cause i hate sports stars in general. something is profoundly wrong with getting enough money to feed a small town worth of homeless for chasing after bound pieces of leather or cloth, or hitting them with various objects.

Here's hoping the madden curse stays strong for years to come, hopefully until these people stop posing for it and the game falls into obscurity like any game that is basically a rehash of the same game you bought a year ago should.
Troy gives so much back to community and is one of the gentlest people on Earth. Do a little research before you go spouting out that people DESERVE to be injured like that. I'm sorry your puny ass got picked on by jocks in high school, but talking like that makes you just as bad. Wishing pain and injury on a person is pathetic.
And about the rest of them? When they are not killing their girlfriends, gambling, doing 'roids, screwing hookers, getting into mafia cocaine, or buying cars and private jets...I'm sure they are absolute pillars of the community.

I bet you would want them to hang out with your family and kids, they are such great influemces, especially not being able to read and managing their millions right into debt.

Our modern athletic idols are jokes. At least gladiators in Roman times would die for their money. These guys are overpaid. Ask any school teacher how much they get paid and then ask them how many times the classroom budget has been turned down in how many years.

I'd put the look on their face on the cover of those sh1t games. Year after year. Nothing can hurt teachers more than seeing the ruin of the society they have to enthuse and educate daily.

You really ARE a douche. That way of generalizing is no different than saying 'you play video games, you must be about to shoot up your school!'

Also, being a grade school teacher is not a job you need extreme qualifications for. Good luck finding 2 halfway intelligent ones in the same school, let alone 2 that actually give half a fuck about their classes.

PS. Gladiators were slaves, they didn't make any money.

Snopes on the Madden Curse. It's kinda uncanny, even if it is just superstition.

http://www.snopes.com/sports/football/maddencurse.asp

2000 - Sanders/Levens - Sanders retired, Levens suffered an injury and was cut in 2001.
2001 - Eddie George - Hampered by injuries and suffered from an all time low in yards
2002 - Dante Culpeper - Knee injury, missed the final 5 games of the year and was never the same again.
2003 - Marshal Faulk - Suffered an ankle injury and dropped below 1000 all purpose yards for the first time in 3 years.
2004 - Mike Vick - Fractured Fibula the day after the game came out.
2005 - Ray Lewis - Torn Hamstring
2006 - McNabb - Sports Hernia in first game of the season. Opted for surgery after playing with pain to miss final 7 games.
2007 - Shawn Alexander - Broke his left foot 3 weeks into the season.
2008 - Vince Young - Got off light because he was a rookie. Only missed one game, but it was the first time in his carrier he missed a game due to injury.

It's an interesting thing.
Yes, very. It's almost creepy.

For the love of God don't let Peterson anywhere close to that thing! The Vikes already got screwed over when Culpepper was on there!

OK, so is this Madden Curs thing about a sports video game? Sorry but I don't follow anything involving sports as I find them boring so I have no idea what this Madden Curse is. (is it a reference to Jon Madden? I only know of him 'cause I saw a comedian do an impression of him that was quite funny)
Yeah, former Oakland Raiders coach John Madden was the guy on the cover from the first edition to the time they started putting players on the cover, hence the name Madden. (Funny how nothing ever seemed to happen to him.)

OT: While I find it interesting this has happened for so long, I'm almost hoping every year the next player is the first to break the Curse. Here's to hoping, Larry Fitzgerald. (Although this year, it would be kinda cheating, since 2 people were on the cover this year.)

here's what happens.
*pulls up a screen and picks up a yellow marker
the men at ea are over here and they want to sell as much as possible so they go over here to the NFL and find the newest rising star and say "hey, here's some money, be on our cover" and he goes "i like money, sure thing" they drive over here and sign the papers there and pow. deal is done. later on the man injures himself playing while the game has nothing to do with it but because it was a fluke, BOOM!

madden curse strikes again.

*puts away marker and screen which is completely yellow*
