Operation Darkness on the 360. Almost all attention it got were declerations that it was a piece of total shit, not even a game. It is a pretty fun game for SRPG fans. Granted, SRPGs are an aquired taste, but just because it is not a big genre does not make the game less good. The graphics were bad for a game demanding $60 at launch, but now it is dirt cheap and excusable, plus the camera is tamable and not the big beast everyone said it was. More like an annoying cat that you just need to man handle a bit till it calms down.

The Warship Gunner series and Valkyria Chronicles.
If I recall, much of the attention that game got was positive, or statements from people who did not play it. Do you mean in sales?

Armed & Dangerous-The graphics were poor and the core gameplay was nothing special, however, three things stood out in this Xbox budget title. 1)It was one of the few games where I literally laughed out loud during the dialog. 2)The seige levels wherein you were placed in a turret on top of a city wall were entertaining breaks in the generic TPS action. 3)It has an honest-to-God Sharkzooka. The game has a gun that fires a land-shark into the ground that swims around and devours enemies. That itself is worth bargain bin pricing.

So many games, already said:
Psychonauts.
Beyond Good and Evil.
Grim Fandango.

How about:
Anachronox: You're a Private Investigator in the future. You live on a planet that continuously reconfigures itself and is the hub of interstellar travel. You eventually find rocks that allow you to throw fireballs, ice, and other techno-"magic". The story was entertaining and well written, and the twist ending is catches everyone by complete and total surprise (in a good way). Problem was: It's in the Quake 2 engine, released after Quake 3 was released. It was so innovative, and enhanced the Quake 2 engine in so many ways, but it still had the basic Quake 2 resolution. Some people also complain about the running around to places you've already been in Anachronox (people always complain about the "elevators" (ie, Mass Effect).)

Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri: Sid Meier had nothing to do with the making of this game. It's like Civilization, in the future. Except you can design your own units and terraform the planet. It has a storyline, unlike Civilization. Basically, it's many times better than Civilization.

Either Killer7 or Eternal Darkness. The sad part is Eternal Darkness went under the radar strictly for being a Gamecube exclusive.

So sad right? But I don't care. I bought it and loved it. And Silcone Knights gives us Too Human.

Alot of these have already been mentioned, but; Anachronox, Killer 7, Okami, Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, the Experiment (aka Experience 112), Vampires - The Masquerade Bloodlines, I don't think these ones have been mentioned though; Eets, Red Orchestra, Praetorians, Shadows of Destiny (aka Shadow Memories), Penumbra - Overture.

All loved by me and the occasional good games journalist but mostly unnoticed by the main stream kids
Ghosthunter was brilliant. The teddys were scary though. :p
That was in the flooded town, right? That whole level was freaky.

Steambot Chronicles for me. A surprisingly fun Atlas game that managed to incorperate mecha and guitar hero elements while offering a fairly decent sandbox.
Finally! Another Steambot fan. I'd still play that game now, but my PS3 doesn't like reading past a certain point, not certain if it's just a game issue or if it's the disk.

the Spyro games on the original playstation. everyone think their shit, maybe because they tried the 6th and 7th gen spyro games before the original three.

Titan Quest. 2nd best game of all time IMO.

Heroes of Might and Magic series. screw dark messiah, the HOMM games are the only inhabitants of Perfection City.

I've read through this and it seems more like a "My Favourite Game" thread.
I've seen about 8 people say Okami, if it's in here that much then it's NOT under-appreciated... It's just a game that's hard to come across.

Edit: Forgot to say the most under-appreciated game in my opinion is Pokemon Snap.

The Jak and Daxter series for 2 reasons:

1.The newest one looks like it will turn out awful while the past were the greatest games I have ever played.

2.No one has converted to the church of the all powerful precursors and gathered enough light eco to destroy the darkmakers.
