I got 23 which is ridiculous! It's not that I'm a narcissist, it's just that I know I'm awesome and superior to the average man damn it.

Aw man, I was hoping for a higher vanity score, since I'm more narcissistic than Narcissus himself; even my reflection isn't good enough for me since it's nowhere near as good looking as I am.

Though I do agree with the superiority score, since it's a proven fact that I'm better than everyone else.

But the exhibitionism score worries me...

I got an 18. Only because the answers were so... meh. "I hate my self image!" "I love myself imagine" "I love being in charge!" "I can't stand it" Need a little middle ground.

I may think we're all equal, but in my head I'm a good leader. This is what I get for being at the head of clans and guilds for the last ten years I guess -_- I rely on others though if that counts towards being a good person, right? Need minio... friends to help with my work an all.

To the post above: It actually is about what you believe, that's narcissism.
No, it's not. Narcissism is excessive self-love.

From the article:

Not everyone with high self-esteem is a narcissist. Some positive views of the self may be harmless and in fact quite justified.

Which is why celebrities tend to score higher than others. Most actual celebrities (i.e. not reality television, not porn stars) have become celebrities through some accomplishment or another. Achievement should breed positive views of the self. Some people believe it's the other way around, but I would've scored much lower on this test when I was struggling to get into medical school than I do now, when I've completed medical school, completed residency, and started a fellowship. Now, if someone is an adult, living in their parents' basement, borderline illiterate, and has absolutely no aspirations in life, but they still have a high opinion of themselves, then that could accurately be described as demonstrably narcissistic.

Also, on physical attractiveness. I don't think it's narcissistic to think you're hot if people are constantly trying to get into your pants. I think that's just realism. If people alternatively refer to you as "Stinky McGhee", "Prairie Dog Face", and "Jabba", but you think you're hot, then that's narcissism.

Got a 3... guess I'm not a narcissist, though I do have a lot of selfworth and decent selfesteem. I don't think the questions were that good, often I would feel somewhere in the middle of two extremes, but having to choose one, I choose the non-narcissistic option. It's basically one of those quizzes where you know exactly what the outcome for each answer is, and since there is only 2 for each question... well.

I would write this off as a silly broken test, but then again, considering that I had trouble even valuing myself above others for the longest time, and still don't really see myself as someone special, just an average person, it may be it bit accurate in my case. I do think a 1 is a bit on the lowside though.

Woah, the Escapist record so far! Not a particularly good test though since it can't differentiate between someone who erroneously believes they are better than others and someone who actually is better, and it would be dead easy to get a low score by deliberately answering the "modest" answers. Quite seriously I don't believe I have the disorder despite scoring high enough since I get along well with most people, certainly not bad enough it's a disorder >.>

I may have issues.
Or not.
Probably not.
Because I am f*ckin awesome.

But so are YOU.
Yes YOU, the person reading this.
You made the deliberate choice to spend your leisure time on the internet not consuming porn or flinging insults at others like a crazy monkey flings his poo around, no, you made the decision to be a part of the escapist community and that makes you awesome.
And don't you forget that.
Gah, I've finally be topped, curse thee! You know, with an score like that you'd be a prime recruit for the Injustice League, consider it :p
You still have room to grow:

Huh... apparently I'm psychotically self involved 8D!

So one thing that kind of bugs me is that a lot of the questions jump from being totally enthusiastic to totally opposed. "I prefer to blend in with a crowd" well, no; it's hard to meet interesting people if I'm never noticeable. "I like to be the center of attention" no, I don't want everybody to pay attention to me all the time, that would just be awkward and annoying; it would be impossible to have any kind of in depth, personal conversation.

"When people compliment me I get embarrassed" it can be awkward if I don't have a compliment to return, but I wouldn't say it's embarrassing by default. "I know I'm great because everybody keeps telling me so" so if being complimented doesn't embarrass me I must think I'm God's gift to humanity and everybody always tells me I am? So you're assuming that if side A is not true then side B, despite dictating the actions of other people besides the test taker, MUST be true.

I can deal with it when neither option is perfect as long as one of them reflects my opinion in some way, but I often found myself disagreeing with both answers strongly.

This test seems to gauge a person's meekness more than their narcissism...
Anyone who scored less than 15 needs to remember they are a unique and special person. Maybe a hug wouldn't hurt.

lol. This is why Doctor is regarded as the number one aspirational career for the narcissist. Much like CEO is the favourite of the psychopath or programmer the favourite of the high functional autistic.

This does explain my problems in ROTC in high school, I was the best leader, knew I was, and said it daily. No wonder I was never put in charge, I was an asshole and however good I was at leading was overshadowed by that fact.

Between 12 and 15 is average.
Celebrities often score closer to 18.
Narcissists score over 20.
Because you scored 18 or higher, you may want to check out the symptoms of narcissistic personality disorder.

Yikes. This isn't even true.

That test was pathetic. Sorry, but maybe 4 of the questions had an answer appropriate to my beliefs. Tests like this are skewed to give scores that people want to see unfortunately.

But for the record i scored 8.

I scored a 5.

A lot of the questions need to be re-written.

Like Number 12, for instance...

"I like to have authority over others" and...

"I don't mind taking orders."

While those may seem like opposites...

neither really apply to me.

What would be more accurate is...

"I don't like to have authority... or taking orders."

Largely because most of time... 'orders' are yelled at me.

I hate being yelled at.

Anyway...

I think this test could be drastically improved if, in addition to more clearly juxtaposed options... they had one or two middle-of-the-road options on each question.

EDIT:

From what I understand of the disorder... this test is neglecting a key part of Narcissism that they should be testing for...

how subjects react to failure.
