So far my only complaint about the look would be the way the forum is glaringly white, with something slightly-darker-than-white around the messages. It needs to be mixed up a little.

On the more functional side, though, I get an unholy amount of lag from this website I never used to suffer. It can take around fifteen-seconds to load what used to take about three.

I'm not a big fan of the videos and features being moved about. Before to check everything I wanted to check (jimquisition, zero punctuation, drinking games, critical miss, no right answer, escape to the movies, and the big picture) I would load up the main page and scroll down looking at the side bar that had the latest entries. Now I have to go to videos and click on each separate entry, because it might not be on the front page news thing if I havent been on the site in a few days. ESPECIALLY because you've mixed in the news articles with everything else. It feels LESS organized to me, unless I'm missing something

It is kinda bright, but my main complaint is the font. Maybe I used to be reading the website too zoomed out, but now I have to zoom in to read anything. I dunno what it is, maybe the colour is less dark. Don't know, its just hard to read. Other than that, the front page being so uncategorised is kinda annoying, and the latest posts/hot threads thingy is too far down the page. Other than those complaints, I like it. Good job, design team.

Yeah.. I'm personally not sure what the web design team classify as "organized", but it's certainly not this. Not how the front page is. EVERYTHING was streamlined on the front page and easily navigated to get what YOU, the viewer, wanted. This basically throws everything into one basket and expects you to "FUCKING LOOK AT IT, GUYS!"

Considering that a lot of the core LoadingReadyRun community doesn't really want to browse The Escapist much, they're here for a few of the video series, if their videos just get thrown in with other "related news and games", that's just plain poor design..

Oh, and here's a tip for the news banner ticker thing.. How about put it right at the top, below the Escapist header and make it a little longer, so the full title can be seen? Or make the font/text smaller, that works too. Maybe instead of it rolling up each time, have it like a normal news ticker scrolling right to left?

Not seen a single nice comment for the new theme. At best its "Meh... its ok I guess.".

With that in mind, why on earth are we still being forced to use it? I see the broken "Use Old Layout" link for pub members is now gone too so its like theres no hope.

I reckon I may just create an RSS feed page so I can view the news posts as and when they update (as opposed to whatever method of display they're using now).

2 days or so later and I still don't like it. The front page is way too cluttered, it just seems like a bit of a mess i'm sorry to say.

Having said that I may get used to the front page in time, however I simply cannot get used to all the white. Please, please, pwetty pwease change the colour scheme. I don't know if I can keep coming back to this site if the bright white stays because it is still hurting my eyes and giving me headaches. It's a shame because I love this site. :(

I'll plough on for the time being though I guess...

I understand your frustration but perhaps you could see ours? Alot of us have been coming to this website for years. Alot of us cannot or choose not to pay for the PubClub. Only warning the PubClub members is disrespectful. Also is disrespectful is the off hand thing someone threw out that we Obviously will get used to it in a few days so stop complaining (paraphrased).

I understand it does take time with these changes but your team was informed from the PubClub people that the background was bad. Adding a tiny really light grey gradient doesn't fix that since people are still saying the massive amounts of white actually hurt their eyes even with monitor brightness turned down. I really enjoyed coming here to read the articles and now I can't read any of them. I haven't been able to physically read anything on this website since the change and I really wish I could.

The news page is also muddled and that is another common complaint. The old system had all the posted items of the day in order filling the page. Now it is a tiny space and confusing since there is no good spacing, there is a bunch of front page articles pinned over it and there is no page numbers to keep from getting lost while scrolling.

It has been a few days, we have given it time and alot of us still feel this is a bad change. I don't mind change, plenty of people don't mind change but your and other people's nice comments aside, it feels like you are brushing us off. Particularly with your comment that even three days later you aren't going to change the background that is painful but "think about addressing" it. That tells me you are not taking any of our complaints seriously since even people who don't mind the new structure, have complaints about the background causing pain. Also I doubt all of us are exaggerating the pain the background causes since
I at least get blinding headaches any time I try and read and article since the change. I am not sitting in a dark room either so it isn't just contrast.

As for your suggestion that we're being insulting by not snapping to change the background - first of all, we need to decide what we'd change it to. We've certainly gotten the message that the new color scheme bothers people, but rushing to change it to something would be foolish and likely to just make people even more angry. Whatever we do, we want to make sure it's a good idea, not just slap a band-aid on and then change it again when we make up our minds what the "right" thing to do is. We don't want to jerk you guys around back and forth. That's all. The tweaks, whatever they may end up being, will not happen overnight. We're not blowing you off.
I have a suggestion...You see, i (and probably the rest of us here) liked the old blue borders, whenever i think of the Escapist i think of the colour Dark Blue, Black, a little White, and Yellow (probably because of ZP) it might be a good idea sticking to them colours.

So the gradient border along the sides of the page are to be used as more advertising space? I'm looking at an 'hour of twilight' background right now... Am I going to have to see stuff like this all throughout the website now? It was bad enough when the video-player just did it...

I don't understand the complaints about the white. Books are black on white, and everyone has been fine with them for the past six hundred years.
Books aren't backlit on an LCD screen, I mean even at a low brightness it's making my eyes water and I'm in a well lit room.
This still doesn't makes sense to me. Almost all websites are white: Google, Facebook, Reddit, Slashdot, Stackoverflow, BBC, Guardian, National Post, etc. If you are editing a Word document, you're starting at white, if you are working with Excel, it is almost all white, Kindle for PC is black on white by default. Being white is the screen's most common state. If it hurts your eyes in a well-lit room, then something is seriously wrong.
Google I don't stare at for hours so that isn't a problem, The rest work ok as they use space well, use formal easy to read fonts and tend to use even colours because I'm on a widescreen desktop when I maximise the window there is so much empty white space and when I try to focus on something else it is either tiny black words in a sea of white or bright blue colouring. Not only does it hurt my eyes but it feels a lot more unwelcoming too. You will probably say to minimise your window but I shouldn't have to, it's bad design when you are forced to do something to make a website readable.

No, no, I would not tell you to minimize your window. I was genuinely curious why people complain. Your reply and several others explain the problem quite well. Thanks.

It. Looks. Horrendous. It lags more, it's too bright, and all the show links to the right are gone.

No. No. No. Change it back.

I can't read anything, it's much more difficult to navigate.
Web 2.0 in full force.
Seriously though, please change it back or give us the option to do so.

It's nice, but it takes forever to load, and I can't easily find the latest, freshest news stories. In short, I miss the blog view at the bottom.

I find that the twitter and facebook boxes are cliche and stupid.
But other than that it's fine.

Everything on the site seems to move at a snail's pace now, and you can only comment through Facebook?? Once again, we brave souls who live their lives Facebook-free are under Zuckerberg's billion dollar boot.

I like how the first 15-20 posts are all about the new site being bad lol. That's all I read and after doing that I was glad I wasn't the only one with that opinion.

I know no one is probably reading this thread anymore, but I'm not the only one who's getting issues of EXTREMELY long load times and freezes am I?

Hell, just to get to this forum the site took 2 minutes to load....
