I don't care. I haven't actually sat down and watch any of the Olympic games that I could have. I don't really even watch regular TV at this point. I do think its kind of funny how North Korea got pissed over the flag thing earlier...today or whenever that was. I look forward to more incidents but that's about all.

Well, it's gonna be hell to travel round London, and it's made finding a house in the Olympic area really bloody hard.

However, I'm looking forward to the events I'm gonna see, and it's certainly made Stratford one hell of a load nicer.

EDIT: Also, whoever decided on that logo should be ashamed. It makes me laugh every time I look at it.

This logo is literally the only reason I have given any attention to the 2012 Olympics.

My general feelings as an American about the Olympics?

Yeah, I'm excited!

Jeeze you English lot seem awfully down on your own country, take a cue from the Chinese people and be happy that your hosting! :D :D :D

The Chinese opening of the Olympics was great, I can't wait to see what the English are going to do for the opening of this years Olympics.

I'm ready to watch Michael Phelps win all the medals. :p

Also, I saw on the Daily Show a clip of what London's plans are for the opening ceremony, and I gotta say... Really? Really, London? I mean, I know you Brits are a naturally bland people, but come on! China's opening was AMAZING. You can at least try to compete against it! Don't just give up! That's so lame!

Personally I'm quite looking forward to seeing The Doctor light the torch in the opening ceremony. Well, I've already seen it of course, but this time it will be now and not back then when we were seeing the future.
I know!

Question: If Smith is lighting instead of Tennant, is a paradox starting?

Capatcha: Geronimo!

... I feel that the thing has futuresight.

Don't take it the wrong way :D

I'm glad were hosting it and I'm sure it will be an unforgettable experience for those who are into it, but I just can't force myself to get enthusiastic about sports.

I don't really care about the Olympics that much. Never really have honestly. That being said, I'm sorry but this thread now has the special Olympics song stuck in my head and now must subject you to several verses as payback.

Cue random music
Watch them run, watch them fall. Watch them try to catch a ball.
Olympics, special Olympics.
Kid with downs wins the race, even though he stood in place.
Olympics, special Olympics.
Watch them prance, watch them drool, watch them fall into a pool.
That's diving ...
At the special Olympics.

I like them. They're fun to watch, I don't really get why you'd hate them, it's not that difficult to ignore it.
If I lived in a bubble, perhaps. I turn on the radio; Olympics. I turn on the tv: Olympics. I go to watch something online: adverts trying to get me excited about the olympics. Xbox: Fucking olympic avatar items being pushed to anyone whether they give a shit or not! Even some of my friends have said about the olympics, pretty much just because it's "here" this time. It seems like nobody is able to accept that I don't like sports during this period!
I'm sure everybody will be feeling the same after the first month or two. Once the initial rush dies down, then we can just treat them as the big games of "which country would win in (insert sport here)" that they truly are.

I do stress though that you should at least watch the opening ceremony just because it's supposedly going to be absolutely batty-nuggets. As shown here:

I should also mention that a lot of the Olympics viewership are watching it for the same reason people watch NASCAR: in case something horribly wrong/unexpected happens.

I'm pretty sure no one's getting pumped up to see Phelps win every medal...again. However, if he loses it all to some random guy from Malaysia, then that would actually be news.

Fair enough, I don't really care about the sports either. I just like to see the openings and joke with my international friends about who's country is winning, lol.

Apathetic.

I hardly watch television anyway, and it'll certainly take a lot more than the Olympics to get me to do so again.
you know I never noticed Lilith had a tatoo [i/]right there...[/i]

uh, anyway

yeah..its fun to watch some events just for the pure novelty..since I dont often get to see many different sports on TV (AFL...cricket...tennis?) I remember actually enjoying the snow boarding and figure sakting during the last winter olympics

generally though its not a big deal...I remember last time it was a HUGE deal was the 2000 olylimpics in sydney...because OMG YOU GUYZ WE GOT TEH LIMPICS!!!!!

Was kinda exciting seeing the torch go by right outside my house and I'm going to watch the opening ceremony, other than that not too fussed personally, not a big sports person.

But I think for the country it might be a good thing, bring everyone out for a reason thats not wholey negative for once. I mean I saw it when the torch went by, the entire village came out to watch it and was a positive atmosphere

With all the crap going on at the moment we need a dose of positive energy and distraction for a little while

I find the idea behind the Olympics to be very interesting, and even quite admirable. These athletes represent the pinnacle of human strength and endurance, and are competing to discover who truly is the best among them.

Unfortunately, I feel as though the Olympics have steadily become less about the spirit of human competition and international cooperation and more about the spirit of profit. The entire thing is a giant commercial now. When I'm walking to work, I see giant banner ads featuring Olympic sprinters... Holding bottles of Coke. It isn't about them, it's about the product.

It's all very sad, I think.

I have a very dull view of this Olympics. The whole way it has been handled up to now is a complete and utter shambles - it is being run for the sake of corporate sponsors and VIPs. There are draconian restrictions on merchandising so that if a company even MENTIONS the olympics at all it will get hit with a lawsuit. That's going too far to ensure exclusivity for a few big sponsors, and to think that the olympic commitee has the CHEEK to call anyone who uses the Olympic logo without permission a "parasite", when the operation is largely funded by the taxpayer and hosted at the leisure of the people of London. Talk about selling out.

The London Olympic-only lanes are rather disgusting too, and will cause much unnecessary grief and disruption for unlucky commuters.

The Olympics in principle is an admirable recognition of perseverance and skill, but I think it has been corrupted by commercialisation. I want as little to do with it as possible.

As an American (what is the word to describe people from the US without being overly-broad about it?) I am supposed to feel all "'merica, FUCK YEAH!", but I don't...

[sup]...At least the winter Olympics has Ice Hockey?[/sup]

I have the typical British view on the whole affair, I'm simply waiting to see how much of this we fuck up and how hilarious the results are.

The First fuck up is already in:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-18991619

I'll put a fiver on it pissing it down during the opening ceremony and the flame going out.

I'm a big gymnastics fan. It's so hype right now. I can't wait.

What kind of depresses me is how the Olympics is the only time these athletes get mainstream attention. In part because of this, I'm not really annoyed by the commercialization. This is the time when Olympic athletes really have the ability to earn money. Without the Olympics trying to be a professional athlete in a non-mainstream sport (e.g. football, soccer, baseball, etc) would be much harder.

Also the FIG sucks. That probably means nothing to most people here but I'm really annoyed with them during this Olympics.

I see your point and raise it up one, why not a Olynpics for feats of humanity, such as mental powess. In a increasing technoloical world why contiune to praise humans physical stenght rather than mental strenght?

Also its a big event cooperation see big events and think "big money."

Lighten up champ.

To put things in perspective, some events may just be who can jump the highest or the furthest, but when you realize that the significance of this is that the winner is literally the best human in the world at jumping far or high, I think that's kinda cool.

Imagine taking a giant shit. It may just be a turd, but if its the biggest turd in the world that's pretty fucking cool IMO.
