I could do without the avatars and whatnot, but Xbox live is still where the best online gaming is for consoles. Plus, the Xbox 360's controller is, in my opinion, the best one ever designed.
Unless you need a working D-Pad, in which case there is massive room for improvement.
I didn't say it was perfect, the D-pad definitely needs work. But it is still the best controller ever designed, in my opinion.

The best controller to date IMO is the PS2 controller. Sony should not have changed the L2/ R2 buttons for PS3. If they had left them alone, it would be no contest.

The second best controller is the SNES controller.

XBox 360 controller is an improvement on the original Xbox (fish in a barrel) but is by no means the best ever. The D-Pad disqualifies it.
Considering how little the D-pad is used in gaming anymore, I would say analog sticks are more important and the 360's analog stick position and feel wins out over the PS version any day of the week. I also prefer 360's triggers. However, the PS3 has a better battery system and they figured out a way to do it while still keeping the rumble feature.

360's triggers and analog sticks + Saturn D-pad + PS3 battery = perfect controller in my opinion.

Have an Xbox, a Pc, and a PS3.

I love my PC best. But I also love my Xbox.

My PS3 is like a casual friend.
This sums up my own perspective really. The PS3 controller makes me leery of FPS games after my experience with killzone 2, which actually caused a significant degree of physical discomfort to play for any length of time. Were it not for the controller, the real reason I spend more time on the PS3 is simply that out of the six or so friends that I commonly play games with, only one of them owns a PS3 - the rest use 360.

In almost any single player game I opt for the PC version, and for multiplayer I choose the 360. That unfortunately only leaves the exclusives for the PS3, but thanks to yet another warranty repair on my 360, I may actually expand my PS3 library here in the near future.

Meh, I'm happy with my Xbox 360, though I would like a bit of God o' War and Uncharted action down this end.

I have an Xbox 360, and ever since they came out with Vista on the Xbox (aka NXE), I have hated the dashboard and most of the things the xbox does outside of playing games and having all my friends on it. Rumors of Live price going up, ads everywhere even though I pay for the service, a marketplace organized by a blind walmart greeter, Microsoft update delays (MW2 comes to mind), and a list of other things add to my annoyance. The PS3 has a sleek dashboard, a very well organized store, and the things it DOES, CAN do, and WILL do will outperform the 360 in the coming years.

This is not a flame of either system. What do you console owners think?
Fascinating. I can't stand the PSN because I find it to be such an unfriendly, disorganized mess. Intriguing how people can have such vastly different experiences.

Bottom line, both machines are excellent, so it comes down to whichever one floats your personal boat.

Is it true that the Ps3 can run Ubuntu? If so, how does that work? Because that seems neat, not using Microsoft products.

Xbox interface seems servicable, though. I don't see the problem, but then again I only play single-player games offline and keep my music and such elsewhere.
Yeah, not that I would know how to. A google search would probably help.

XBox controller is nicer and XBox is a better online platform. I don't play online, so the only pro would be the better controller. Needless to say I chose the PS3. I just like the games better.

I love my PS3... it keeps the Wii company while I play 360 ;)

I do love my PS3, but I hate the dashboard layout, as has been mentioned previously in this thread, I still have difficulty finding various functions on the dashboard...

I also hate.. long, mandatory game installations. something you never get on the 360.

I think the network overall needs help. Lag, hackers, and whatnot. I mean the dashboard, store, and things like that are good. I also hate the contoller though. Never did like it. Not since the PSOne.

I don't have a PS3 but I do want one. At the moment I only have a 360. I'd trade my 360 in to get a PS3 but then I wouldn't be able to play ME.

And I don't have a gaming pc, and I can't build one, so I'm out of luck.

When I went over which games were the best of the year, I was hard pressed to find a 360 exclusive

Yet PS3 had Ratchet, Uncharted, Infamous, among others. Good Year for the PS3, Great year to be a PS3 owner.

My Xbox 360 is very reliable, hasn't broken on me yet and I enjoy most of the games I own for it.

I've already spent money on this Xbox 360, I'm not wasting more money on buying something for about 5-10 exclusive games I couldn't give a flying-toss about.

I love my PS3, I couldn't live without it's blend of Media server capabilities, Blu-ray, and Games. It has become the gem of my entertainment center while my XBox has been delegated to the bottom shelf that gets rather dusty.

Ditch both and get a PC instead. Best graphics, best controls, modifiable, backwards compatible.

Only, get ready to jump through a whole lot of hoops if a game decides your drivers or hardware aren't just right.

And pay an arm and a leg every time you want to upgrade.

And have stained fingers from all the thermal grease you've been using putting it together for the last four hours because buying a pre-made one is ludicrously overpriced.

And deal with M$'s newest piece of spyware posing as an operating system because otherwise they won't let you have their goddamned graphics API.

On the upside, torrents!

Aside from the blu-ray, the free online features, the wireless internet, working backwards compatability (on the earliest models) and the awesome exclusives, what makes PS3 a good choice is the superiority you can have in your voice when you talk to your Xbox friends about their RRoD consoles.

I have a group of friends that comprises of me and 6 others who I will call A, B, C, D, E and F
I own a PS3 which has never broken down
A also has a PS3 which too has never broken
B is on his 3rd Xbox
C is on his 4th Xbox (Which had the warrenty expire before it broke so I had to help him pay for a new one)
D is on his 3rd Xbox
E is on his 2nd Xbox
F is on his 2nd Xbox

Now, I don't hate Xboxes. I really enjoy playing LAN on my friends' working ones, but I can't help but feel that either I have the unluckiest friends in the world, or something was horribly wrong with their console of choice, or at least the earlier ones.

I own a 360, PS3, and a PC. My sister owns a WII. No fanboyism in this house.

While I'm one of the few Xbox owners who isn't very fond of Halo, I still like the games for the 'box' more than the ones on the PS3. Uncharted never got to me, I've always found Metal Gear incredible slow and boring. On the other hand I love the Gears Of War series, and would never even think of playing it on the pc. What I'm saying is, I love my Xbox. Havn't been a victim of the red ring just yet, and I'm glad to pay for live.

However I too think the PS3 will totally overshadow the Xbox within a couple of years, unless Microsoft brings us a new console alot sooner than Sony did again.

Also, the exclusive games for the Xbox are getting fewer and fewer, so even though I love my console, I have to admit that it's slowly moving towars insignifigans.

Wow... same old flame ridden garbage that always shows up in these threads...

OP: I think you'd have to be half-retarded to think that the PS3's XMB system is in any way better than NXE. Neither of them are very good but they're both serviceable, and if that's your complaint about a system you're obviously just here to nitpick.

Both systems have their merits, and when it comes down to it, get the one that has the games you want to play on it.... I just feel sorry for you PS3 owners that don't game on PC, because you will never get to experience the pure awesome that is Mass Effect 1 and 2.
you wonder why us console people thing pc gamers are elitists. read that post.

the PS3 is awesome. nuff said though i dont like the psn store.... its hard to navigate.
