"Whatever [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xz7_3n7xyDg]".

When used dismissively this word unleashes the rage.

A solid molten bar of rage right up bigfoot's urethra.

"end of".

Even if I agree with the person saying this, it gives me the urge to immediately change my views.

close second is "I hate politics". One may as well say "I do not care about, or am too stupid or lazy to understand, any problem anyone on the planet is having, nor do I care about social causes, society, morals, ethics, or philosophy. I am perfectly content living in my own little routine, and do not desire to learn about anything or try to understand the world or people in general."
...And you're upset about other's hedonistic apathy? I mean they can do what they want. If they want to chill out and block out all the bad stuff not immediate to them go ahead. Not hurting not helping.
I never said people couldn't do what they want, just that that phrase annoys me to no end, and people who use it are not people I want to be around or to interact with in any capacity.

Fair enough - agree to disagree I suppose.
Holy hell, I didn't expect to see annoying phrases used - in context - in a thread about annoying phrases.

My own personal peeves are "agree to disagree", "everyone has/I have a right to their/my opinion" (to quote George Carlin, "...my opinion is that you have no right to your opinion!"), and any time anyone asks me to respect them. No, I will not "agree to abide by" you. Nor will I have respect for you (which I'm sure is what you meant).

Ahem.
And so when two people who refuse to budge from opposite sides of argument youre supposed to say what?

The inability to accept that anyone expect you could POSSIBLY be right - even when they have a totally different life exprience etc - is just plain dumb. So perhaps thats something we can . . . no Im not so much of a troll im gonna go there ;)

Hmm, I don't blow up on people often, but when I do it is often memorable, most recently, I was asked to do something I disagreed with by a manager for a company I no longer work for. I'm pretty flexible person, so I figured I must be misunderstanding the purpose of the assigned task, so I pressed my manager for a reason, she dodged the question for a while then snapped at me saying, "You'll do it because I said so."

Well, I'd had enough of her shit, so I went into a rant I can still remember to this day:

"Not f---ing good enough lady, only two people on this planet get to use "because I said so" on me, and you are neither old nor mean enough to be -either- of my parents. so if you can't answer a simple f---ing question then you can find yourself a new f---ing cook."

Needless to say, this is one of the major reasons I no longer work at this place. (And for the record, upon hearing the story and what I said, my parents couldn't stop laughing about it for a week.)

"I think Lilly is better than Hanako."

I would probably slap a *****.

"I'm voting for (Romney or Obama) over (Obama or Romney) because they're the lesser of two evils!"

"There is a functional difference between Romney and Obama," or "There is a functional difference between the Democrats and Republicans on the national level."

Anyone that says any of the above three sentences not only is a complete fucking idiot with absolutely no understanding of politics (let alone liberty), but the world would be a vastly superior place with their demise or disappearance.

when you lose something and get asked:

"Where did you last leave it?"

The result of that being "If I knew that it wouldn't be lost would it!"

EDIT: Thought of another "If you don't vote you can't complain"

this ignores the fact that if I don't like any of the candidates then I'm not going to vote for any of them. I believe that if caught between 2 evils then kick both of them in the nads and take a 3rd option.

Really the statement would hold more weight if it became "If you don't register to vote you can't complain."

"Can I ask you a personal question?"

Doesn't work for everyone but that's a phrase (and the questions that followed) that pretty much shattered my childhood. These days, always, my answer is "no".

"What did you get up to today"

When? 10 this morning? After lunch? I'm always up to something, and I'm not going to describe my whole entire day to you.

If I ask you why you did/are doing something and you say:

"I don't know..."

Then please by all means, go fuck a cactus, thank you.

I mean really, did your body just spontaneously take control away from you and left you incapable of controlling your actions? You think something, you do something, rinse and repeat. That is how actions work.

I agree 100% percent for more than one reason. I'd say mine would have to be, "You're so stupid, you can't do shit" which is what my brother tell me, or What my parents always say "I birth you, i'm going to have you do it."

"I will pray for you" is the religious equivalent of "fuck you". They often use this phrase when loosing an argument.
I just tend to respond with "I won't pray for you."

"Of course, you're always right."/"Oh I forgot that you're never wrong" etc
This one gets me really mad, because what the hell can you respond with? No I'm not always right, but I wouldn't be arguing with you if I didn't think I was right NOW. Jesus.

That [insert thing/game/movie I like here] sucks/is a gimmick/is the worst thing in the world!

That makes me angry...but I confess, I say that to other people's things/games/movies they like too and it also makes them rage at me. People have opinions but everyone's opinion is wrong because I am always right.

P.S.
In my opinion, The Dark Knight Rises was vastly inferior to The Avengers.

Inception is over-rated and not even in the top 3 Nolan films, let alone ranks as one of the 'best movies ever' according to my friends.

Your girlfriend is ugly.

EDIT:
Also, anyone who wants to start an argument with me over why I believe in God. Am I not allowed to believe in a higher power now? Seems to be considered wrong with most of my friends...especially the ones who go "I know how to disprove religion in one word. Dinosaurs!"

WHAT THE FUCK! THAT DOESN'T PROVE SHIT! MIND YOUR OWN FUCKING BUSINESS! I DON'T GO ASKING WHY YOU AREN'T RELIGIOUS SO DO ME THE SAME COURTESY!...is what goes on in my head...

In cases of sexual assualt the legal system fails as there is usually far too little material evidence and a great many ways for the defence to claim "sex yes but rape no". As I said I have no issue in general with the "innocent until proven guilty" philosphy but with sex crimes it is insufficient to provide a satisfactory system to convict the guilty and protect the innocent.

This is why I consider trivialsing rape in the manner that you seem to think appropriate is so damaging. I dont have a problem with people joking about murder because people who commit such crimes are brought to justice in about 90%-95% of cases. In cases of rape justice is the rare rather than the common - and society by and large does not recognise this fact. For exactly what reasons I am not going to specualte upon here.

Suffice to say for myself, having never been a victim of rape but understanding it from the perspective of some who have, I would deem humour around sex crimes to be not just trivialising, but damaging to the chances of victims to recieve any kind of justice. It is also for this reason I would give anyone who is found to be fabricating a charge of rape to get a sentence in line with a rapist.

If justice is not seen to be done then justice ceases to deter those who would succumb to its temptations.
Are you serious? Take a step back and really look at what you are arguing for.

The problem is that rape victims often don't report the crime right away. There is plenty of physical evidence, but most of it has to be collected right away or it's useless. Encouraging victims to speak up as soon as possible, pushing back those who ridicule the victims, making sure the cases are taken seriously. All of these would increase the conviction rate. Wild changes to the law and legal systems will only serve to throw innocent people in jail.

Also, there will never be 100% conviction rate, because sometimes the prosecution is wrong. A rape may not have occurred. Now wait a second, I agree that more guilty get off then innocent, I just do not think the correct way to fight it is overthrowing innocent until proven guilty.

And to the first guy, CONGRATZ you really DO have a phrase guaranteed to start a shit-storm. I'm not sure whether to commend you, or condemn you.

OT: the word "patriarchy" just grinds my gears now. I guess I've heard it used improperly/offensively too many times.
