Metal Internment camps.. are you fucking kidding me?

The Bright Idea to "Cure" people of metal music, is to put people such as myself in a camp, surrounded by other people such as my self, People who generally don't take shit, and try and reform us?

Let me know how that works out...

I thought that this little issue went away back when what people know as heavy metal came to be. Bear in mind that was about 30 years, though I'm not quite sure. And they blame this musical genre on the whole of modern teenagers-air quotes- bloodlust? That is something I really wouldn't expect someone like him to say. What I feel is worse though is that more than 85% feel that this is a real issue.

If you play heavy metal forward, there is no satanic message. If you play heavy metal backwards, there is no satanic message. And if you play country music backwards you get your stuff back.

War on Heavy Metal, huh. He's a bit behind the curve, isn't he? Oh well, at least you can always trust the far right to be dumb as a bag of rocks. Unfortunately, they also vote.
you could say the same about the far left, or any extremists who feel their vision of a perfect country must be uncompromising and absolute.

As for this Santorum joker, he DOES realize the 80's were about 30 years ago, right? Why do we let people so out of touch anywhere NEAR politics?

So obviously fake I feel like emailing the staffer who typed this up at the Daily Paul and giving them a punch to the face for posting something so criminally unfunny. An Internet punch. Through cable lines and optic fibers. Yes.

On the other hand, anything that deepens the perception that the right wing is made up of easily scared sanctimonious assholes is more than welcomed.

To be clear, I've got nothing against right-wingers - if their opinion is well researched. If it's just bullcrap engineered to make people vote for one name instead of another, I call bullshit.

On the very off chance that Santorum is even remotely serious or has unspoken opinions that go somewhat in that direction; I'd say he should be required to sit through repeated playlists of the current dominating bands in all of Metal's substratas, all the while making it clear to him that hardcore occult stuff like Gorgoroth is so niche there's no way they could have a lasting or serious impact on American society.

Yes, Varg Vikrenes burned down a church. So what; that's on par with the same sort of douchebaggery you see on YouTube that ends up with a drunken fratboy in traction. It's a sad, sad waste of human potential and it involves the destruction of what I'm sure is a spiritual center for many people; but it won't warp several million people across the pond and turn them into Pazuzu expies.

Now if we were living in Dethklok's universe, though...

?If you listen to the radio today, many of these brand new, so-called heavy metal music bands like Black Sabbath, Venom, The WASP and Iron Maiden use satanic imagery to corrupt the minds of young people,? announced Santorum at a 10,000 dollar a plate sock-hop in Valdosta, Georgia on Thursday.

The amount of stupidity in this sentence is actually mentally painful to read, i don't know if i should invoke poe's law, call troll or vomit in the bathroom.
When I read the OP at first I thought he was talking about the history of the anti heavy metal movement. Saying those bands are satanic blah blah are all the old arguments from the 70s, and the band list to.

Whats next? Is a US senator going to do an interview saying he wants Elvis the pelvis banned?

60 or so posts into this thread and there are still people who think this actually happened. C'mon, folks. If this was any more obviously a joke it would have clown shoes and a spinning bow tie.

As the child of a metal fan, i always have to shake my head in disbelief whenever someone tries to pull the "Metal is the Devil's music" card. My Dad was a huge fan of Iron Maiden and he often explained the back story behind some of their songs. For example; "The Trooper" is about the famous work called "The Charge of the Light Brigade." One of their other songs, "Aces High" is about the Battle of Britain during WWII. Lastly, the song "Two Minutes to Midnight" is about the dangers of war profiteering. A bit more sophisticated than "Obey Satan."

On another note, his suggestion of Pat Boone as "wholesome" music loses several million points in credibility because Boone (or at least the record company he signed with) was a plagiarist. It was not an uncommon practice during the 50s and 60s for white artists to steal music from black artists and pass it off as original material. Little Richard tried to counter this by making his song "Tootiy Fruity" too fast for Boone to sing.

People are so used to the extraordinary levels of stupid that leaves the mouths of some US politicians from time to time that taking it at face value is all to easy

Talk about not doing the research. Black Sabbath new? How is a band that was formed in 1969 considered new?

Glad we still have Thrash, Power and Symphonic ;). What the hell is a $10,000 plate sock-hop anyway?

According to wiki it's a type of traditional school dance in America, called so because you take your shoes off. As for the $10,000 dollar part...the plates cost $10,000 dollars i guess? Which sounds kind of absurd. I think if your not American it may make the satire a little less obvious.
