Assault Scope attachment in Operation Flashpoint: Red River. In terms of range scoping, neither here nor there.

Hand gun in OF: Dragon Rising/Red River. Makes lots of angry noises. That's all.

The worst for me is probably the .32 and Chinese pistols in Fallout 3. The pistol you start out with does more damage and even looks better aesthetically, so why would I ever use them? Even more ridiculous are the rusty arrows in Skyrim. If the game started you out with them, or if they were super-common compared to every other arrow type, I might see a point to them, but neither of those things are the case; the game starts you out with iron arrows, which do about twice the damage, and in all my hours playing Skyrim, I think I've found, what, two rusty arrows? They're not even worth killing mudcrabs with, though in hindsight I guess they'd at least have been good for killing Grelod the Kind.

4/5ths of the junk you can pick up in any Bethesda RPG. No I dont want a set of flatware. No I do not like being forced to kill town guards all because of an errant mouse click.

Most of it's there for flavor, to make the setting feel alive. In Fallout for example, what kind of nuclear wasteland would it be if there wasn't useless, destroyed debris strewn everywhere?

As for killing guards because of a mouse click, that's kind of like keeping your index finger on the trigger of a gun while aiming it at a police officer.

What does it say about the playerbase that such sales allowed the game to go Free to Play?

WHY does Vaan exist?
oooo I know the answer!

Basch (I think, might have been Balthier) was originally going to be the central character with Vaan and Penello playing a minor part at best, the board didn't like that though, they wanted a fresh and youthful face on the franchise to, y'know, be down with the kids yo. So Vaan got made a full fledged character and given whiny hero status.

I was playing Pokemon Black and a lot of things confused me.
Why is this random woman telling me about my best friends?
Why does no one ever leave the area they're in unless they're bad guys or the aforementioned best friends (and gym leaders now)?
Why do Pokemon centres heal you for free? Who PAYS FOR THEM?!
How do cities defend against wild pokemon attacks? I mean at higher levels they're crazy powerful, are there unseen ninja guards running around in a ceaseless war against wild pokemon? Or do they just never attack? Why not?
What do you eat in Pokemon? Other Pokemon? How do the Pokemon feel about that?
Doesn't anyone take issue with sending a 10 year old child into the world to face off against what essentially equate to monsters, beings capable of literally incinerating you, or freezing you, or crushing you or slicing you apart (or eating you whole or...)? I mean, really, this is a good idea?!
For that matter doesn't anyone worry that allowing a 10 year old to be in possession of a creature that can literally destroy the entire planet is bad? What if he gets pissed at someone and uses it wrong?

First Assassin's Creed: Throwing knives. Oh good, a long range weapon.
Assassin's Creed 2: Gun. Oh good, another long range weapon. And I can only carry six of them.
Assassin's Creed Brotherhood: Crossbow. Wow, a long range weapon, and I get twenty? I'LL NEVER USE THE GUN OR THROWING KNIVES AGAIN!
Throwing knives were awesome in the first game.
Once you're in Ezio-land, the Hidden Gun and the crossbow make throwing knives a bit useless, so they counterbalanced it with the ability to take down up to three foes at once. Quite useful sometimes, actually. Of course, the entirety of Ezio's repertoire just grew more redundant as time progressed.

I mean, come on.
Poison dart launcher?
Just: why? To draw attention to a guard that's nowhere near you and buy time? That stopped being necessary around the time Ezio got access combo-kill streaks. Now it's just a fancy toy. Speaking of which: how about the bombs added in Revelations?

The game would be so much more satisfying if all you carried was a hidden blade and maybe one melee weapon to allay suspicion.
The 'S Creed series is still fun, but hopefully 3 will remember its roots a bit better.
While that's true when you can just run in and kill stuff if you are trying for 100% completion on the "don't get detected" missions the bombs and poison darts are invaluable.

Why the hell does stockstrike in ToR cost ammo for the trooper.
It doesn't take ammo to hit someone with a gun.

Various items in various MOBAs. Some of them are there just so people can make poor decisions. Same thing for many cards in MtG or actually most feats/abilities in all D&D editions.

But I guess it does reward players for good decision making and system, which is something I really enjoy. However, when it's a team game with random people, it makes me want to flip my non-flippable desk when someone buys That Useless Item.

Total War games - Peasants
A serious one would be Sapping. A non-serious (yet serious anyway) would be for the rebels to have, and to be destroyed by my cavalry causing a route which then routes the next mob and so on...

So really... no reason. But they are always fun to kill.

Now
Oblivion - Horse armour... WHY!!??!?!
Edit: adding stuff

Daedra hearts can be obtained during Marons Dagon's quest. you get 4 and then 2 every few days. Ebony can be found in the Ork camp in the Reach. (just south east of Windhelm) There are 22 veins.

I also want to know why I can use the lockpicking tree. Its a waste of space MOAR Levitation instead

Soaking up arrows so they don't have as many/any to use on your decent troops.
Why waste army slots and production time on peasants when you could be spending it on decent troops? A half decent economy is easy to get going and then you're no longer limited by cash, you are limited by production time and the number of units you can fit into an army.
They're garrison soldiers and useful in purging bandits when your real soldiers are fighting to claim another crown for your growing collection.

also when they level up in veterancy they become quite formidable in their own right and actually scare off templar and Hospitallier Knights.

The laser pistol and laser rifle from Fallout 3.

Y U NO DO ANY DAMAGE?
The laser weapons have hitscan projectiles. They hit a target immediately, whether it's right in front of you or just at the edge of your visibility range. Plasma weapons, by contrast, move as quickly as a drunk obese man trying to remember which hotel room he's staying in. Lasers are bloody useless in VATS, but they make a decent choice for mid to long range engagements if you have no other option. Gauss rifle sort of invalidated that, though, but at least laser weapons are easy to repair.

I spent fifteen minutes thinking up this response.
Aha, i must say i love your explanation! xD made me laugh. But your probably right, i never had any luck with the Laser Pistol or Rifle, even with VATS. The Plasma rifle is pretty crap in VATS, but i usually tend to use it whilst exploring, Its one shot kill on most roaming mutants :p

Fallout: New Vegas, why did they decide to include different types of ammo. I can't be the only one who went 'fuck it' and just used normal rounds.
You're not the only one. Hi.

It's for people who want to try that kind of complexity out, like Hardcore mode.

To be fair, I can think of one for this: Authenticity.

This is a world that had to pick itself up from bare bones after the whole thing with the Chinese involved. Ergo, there will be shitty guns for shitty people, and Chinese weapons because of the war. Chinese Assault Rifles kick ass, though. Next to everyone in Paradise Falls is carrying 'em.

You mean you've never had the pleasure of going Deathclaw hunting with your own hand-loaded custom ammo.

Also there are 40mm incendiary grenades, they're always fun.

I mean I went AROUND the Deathclaw areas for half the game because I didn't have any REAL firepower against 'em for a while.

Mortal Kombats "Flip stance button". press L2 (I think) and you character will turn around so your either looking at his front or his back, has no effect on gameplay at all.

Now that I think about it, its to decide if you want to look at Kitanas Boobs or ass.

This makes me think of a different Why. If that's what the flip stance button is for, why don't they have eye-candy for girl gamers? Just curious.

Thats why you use alternate ammo. Or Psycho. Lots of Psycho.
Or my personal favorite, both!
Something at least the size of a hunting rifle and sneak attacks also help.

beat stage 1 like achievements.
achievements should be hard to achieve not doing easy stuff like getting the starter pistol.
