It wouldn't alienate people to up the complexity, in fact I'm pretty sure they've been doing that in the background of the newer Pokemon titles. Though as hard as it is to believe there are kids who have never played Pokemon before or may have only heard about it from the anime/TCG/merch/parade balloon (food?).Don said:In principal I agree with you, but with Water/Steel along with Ground/Grass coming into play, I would say that the starter triangle principle has already been broken and thus a new broken triangle wouldn't be amiss. Psychic not hurting Dark shouldn't matter as it still plays to the "being weak to" principle, just slightly more accentuated. Your example of a differing triangle doesn't however and has no place.AdamRBi said:Problem with that is, unlike the pattern held up by Water/Fire/Grass, Psychic type moves can't hurt Darks at all. Nothing, nada, Zero damage done. And by recent standards (where you gain a second type that is an advantage over your rival/become weak against the type you're powerful against) the psychic type would be at a greater disadvantage. Much more then Bulbasaur is to Charmander.
This is the same issue with Dark/Psychic/Ghost, as Ghosts aren't weak against psychic. The triangle they have now is simple to understand and simple to use especially for children playing Pokemon so they wouldn't change it.
Now those as secondary types to the starters as they reach their 3rd evolution? That'd be pretty cool.
Simplicity shouldn't factor either, this is the fifth generation of these creatures and it would be a safe bet that anyone who will be interested is interested already and with Pokemon being heavily populated by competitive play I think an increase in depth/complexity (not that changing starters really is) wouldn't really alienate anyone.
The real reason there won't be a change is laziness and reluctance. I dont blame Game Freak, I'm just disappointed. Even though those images aren't real, you can still imagine them being similar to what has been conceived - except maybe the water pig being the grass type.
Quite the contrary - I think Nintendo could learn little, if anything, from that guy, specifically because so many of them are ripped off, as well as too many of them being too similar to other pokemon within even that same list. Not just real pokemon from previous generations.interspark said:WOW! i love them! nintendo could learn alot from this guy! some of them are a biiiiiit ripped off but oh well. y'know im not too disapointed with these to be honest, i mean, yeah they look cheesy and naff right now but 1. we wont see the real thing untill next sunday and 2. i remember feeling the exact same way about piplup chimchar and turtwig and they came out fine!
Yeah, they should do something new. These look like something I've seen before, but who knows when they get coloured?Collin Henderson said:Considering this is the new generation, I wouldn't put it past them to possibly move away from the traditional fire/water/grass starters. I would love to see some kind of Ghost/Dark/Psychic choice or something like that. And seeing that these silhouettes aren't 100% clear on what type they are, who knows.
I'm not sure it they are cute or absolutely terrifying.Hurr Durr Derp said:Found it. Dunno if it's real or fake, but...Dyp100 said:Apparently my friend said coloured screens have been posted, but IDK if he is BSing or not.

I think that looks rather good. Granted, it's quite ugly but it has potential to turn into a grass dragon, scaly piece of...pokemon. Better than a blue pig atleast. These are fake though, they couldn't have fallen that low. The look of the starters contributes around 50% of the enjoyment value to the game, they couldn't fuck these up that bad.Space Jawa said:Baby Godzilla lizard thing?Sworm said:I mean seriously... a water-pig, a fire-koala-like-thing and a grass-... what the hell is that thing anyway?
Mudkips AND Torchics (which evolve into those bad-arse Fighter-Fire pokemon )Dyp100 said:Apparently my friend said coloured screens have been posted, but IDK if he is BSing or not.
Either way, they look pretty ugly, I doubt anything will beat the first 3 generation of starts, I mean, they gave us MUDKIPS, how can you beat that!?
