um...I don't get the fuss over this. Chances are if you have a computer, espeically multiple computers your connected to the internet. With online play being free doesn't that make LAN play redundent? The only valid arguement I can see for it is if your running a lot of computers on the same network and by a lot I mean around 10 or so on a basic household setup...but again who really does that nowadays?

The difference between Blizzard and L4D's dev is Blizzard has stated, numerous times, they don't like petitions and they will, 9.5 times out of 10, completely ignore it.

People who have large LAN parties? They do still exist you know. A dozen guys will bring their rigs over, LAN them up and have a weekend of gaming awesomeness drinking and having fun.

Doesn't it seem a tad ridiculous to have to connect to a server hundreds of miles away just to play with a guy who is sat literally three feet away?

I signed up, for whatever good that will do. Although I think there is a fairly good chance it will work, Blizzard certainly likes it's community, and a few of the developers have talked about their great experiences with LAN. Not to mention the game has already been pushed back into 2010, and the beta(I think) is just being launched(hasn't yet as far as I know). Maybe they will put LAN in, I hope so, I'm not a fan of unecessary ping and lag when I just want to play a match with some friends.

I really doubt a petition will change anything. I am sure they have good reasons for their decisions. Blame piracy for ruining PC gaming i say.

I hate this Blizzivision or Actizzard crap. When there was Activision, it was awesome, when there was Blizzard, it was more than awesome. Now they merged and all went to shit, so now they suck as one and separately too.

Hell, Bizzard gave me the best two games of my generation, Diablo II and StarCraft. I just came home from our annual week-long LAN party and guess what, we played those two in 80% of the time. The usual Diablo II marathon, from start to the end of Hell in 3 days, and rest of the time we played SC and some other games, like AvP2, CS, UT, and the newfound Supreme Commander. I cannot imagine either of these without LAN support.

I have signed. Not because I plan on playing SC2-Lan, but for those out there that really want it. :) As a gamer, I see no valid reason to exclude Lan Play. So I signed for you folk that do want it. :)

I'd sign a petition to stop Activision/Blizzard from releasing stupid press releases. This thing about LAN play supposedly 'missing' is blown beyond proportions by ignorance.

Denying LAN and forcing Battlenet is like saying people can't hang out with their neighbours at their own house, instead they have to waste gas traveling to a community center just to hang out with the people that live next door.

It's a mute point tho, as there will be Battlenet emulators. And its no surprise that a company will waste their time screwing over their paying customers in order to squeeze a few more dollars out of them.

Not going to sign it.
Simply put I don't care about SC2..and those whiners about L4D2..screw you. The first one is fine. I didn't mind paying the $60 for it. No one was forced to buy it did they?

If a company kicks out a sequel a year later..I'm happy. I'll gladly pay another $60 for it.

I mean damn those video game companies for wanting to keep the interest in their games and wanting to make money..

Ok first off, this petition crap has to stop.

The left for dead 2 petition didn't 'work', valve had always had the intention of releasing more content for l4d. If anything, they might have released DLC for f4d earlier.

Second. One hundred thousand people...

that's it?

STARCRAFT IS A NATIONAL F***ING SPORT in Korea. Blizzard doesn't give a crap what few thousand winy brits and americans think about a lack of LAN functionality. This game is being made, first and foremost, for the Koreans. It will sell like chocolate-coated crack anyways.

We all know why they're doing this. Piracy. So there may yet be one silver lining to this dark turn of events:

If you have to register online to play with others, maybe the game won't be riddled with stardock-esque DRM aids.
/facepalm. You obviously are ignorant. Gabe Newell from Valve addressed the boycott, and if you saw this, you would know that he said that the group had legitimate reasons for starting said boycott. He said that their concerns were something that Valve planned to address, and as such, he talked about Crash course and how they were looking into merging the two communities.

Oh, just because only 100,000 people sign it, we should ignore it? Peopl are entitled to make a petition if they want. Idiots like you who essentially say "STOP BITCHING TO MUCH LOL JUST BYU TEH GAEM" are disgusting. If the gaming company listens to the petitioners, then everyone is happy. If not, they don't buy the game and the company loses money for not listening. It is the way Capitalism works, and if you don't like it, stop bitching about how other people want to be represented. Because we all no how horrible that would be.
People like you make me sick.
Gabe Newell was just doing expert PR. He never said committed to anything different than was already planned. He just said that the concerns were legitimate if you didn't know what was going on and then he told people what was going on, what was already planned from the beginning, that both L4D and L4D2 would receive support and additional content. But by phrasing things the way he has, those that are stupid enough to sign a L4D2 petition were also fooled that they were being listened to. All they were being told: "Yeah we already covered that base".

To the people who say removing LAN is a good thing: have you seriously never been to a LAN party?

By removing LAN, you're forcing people to turn from a tried and true method of reliable network play to a system that isn't always 100% reliable. When it comes to LAN parties, or stores that cater to LAN gamers, it also increases the amount of bandwidth used if every single person playing has to connect to Battle.net. And not every place in the world has access to such high-speed Internet with no bandwidth limits.

No matter what , LAN is still, and always will be, a popular networking technology due to its reliability in creating a high-speed network (Gigabit Ethernet results in 1000 Mbit/s connections - show me a 4-player game over the Internet with those sorts of constant speeds).

Okay, first of all, how has that petition helped L4D2 in the SLIGHTEST bit? it's still coming out at the full retail price, last time I checked. They're just adding some tied in support for the first L4D, which honestly, with how quickly they replied with that, I'd imagine they had already planned on doing it anyway.

Second, I've seen a lot of petitions hit higher numbers than what this one has so far, and nothing ever changed. I truly don't see this one going anywhere, either.

Lan made Starcraft because the internet was 56k.

Lan is out dated and isn't needed.
Because everywhere in the world has 100% dependable, high-speed Internet, of course!

No, wait, that's not at all the case.
The countries who don't have High Speed internet don't pay for Starcraft 2.
