I loved the first one if only for the ability in multiplayer to be able to build bases by destroying parts of the level. That was a lot of fun. Strapping an explosive to your enemy and watching him flee and start what would become your new base. Fun times.

The rest were pretty meh tho.

How to be THQ:
Step 1: Find yourself with surprise hit open world destruction game.
Step 2: make sequel to that game that is the complete opposite to what people enjoyed.
Step 3: be surprised by low sales.
Step 4: learn nothing, phase out series.

I'm surprised. This almost seems like nobody have played THE 1st Red Faction (the one that was FPS). Though I must be mistaken, but the comments I read only compares the new game to old eventhought there is 2 games before guerrilla. Again, though these 2 new games, armageddon and guerrilla are 3rd person shooters.

But anyway I liked the first game that was fps and released 2001 I belive. It was something new to destroy everything bith machines and explosives. Then the 2nd game was decend though less things that you can destroy. But I had it on my PS2 and I enjoyed it.

After the 3rd game was released I wasn't really exited about it and bought it from Xbox live when it was on sale in there (thought I got the non english version of it and I couldn't change it nor get refund... duh) but I wasn't taken in by it as I were by the past 2 games.

So for me Red Faction really lost it's appeal after the 1st game (that was fps).

I loved the first game, but there didn't need to be anything after that. While the job cuts are disappointing, it's good in a way to see a series being let go. I just wish other developers would let other series' end with dignity.

SAD FACE.
Big fan of the whole saga, from Saints Row 1 to Guerilla. Hopefully they'll bring it back in a less linear dead-space-with-explodables way.

Yahtzee will be a very happy man. Besides, they have a much better series in Saints Row. Now if IO could put Kane and Lynch down for good, then I could finally get my sequel to Freedom Fighters.

Hmm... I bought the THQ pack for 40ish bucks at the Steam Summer Sale and both of these games were on it. I haven't tried Red Faction yet - but it seems like you and me like the same sort of games. I'm currently playing Saints Row 2 (was part of that pack) after struggling to get some semblance of the xbox controller emulation working on my PC, and I love it... I love it far more than the GTA series to be honest).

And yes... FREEDOM FIGHTERS ROCKS. This is a game that really deserves a sequel. I also wouldn't mind seeing another sequel to No one Lives Forever and Freedom Force.

The second game was really interesting gameplay and story wise, the way it mixed them to provide an insight into terrorism, but the destruction alone was never enough for me. And since they based the entirety of Armageddon on that, it's no surprise it failed, to me anyway. Maybe it's for the best.
I've always thought that THQ would have gone out of business by now, they've always been slightly below the curve and been wasting a lot of money on obvious crap, but a few good games have helped them stay off. Maybe now it's not long off...

Guerrilla was one of the best games of this generation; immensely fun single and multi-player. It just didn't sell well because it isn't COD.

Armageddon on the other hand is terrible corridor shooter that completely abandoned everything Guerrilla did well and failed because of it.

Hopefully there could still be a "spiritual successor" to the series. Smashing my way through a wall never got old.

this is what happens when you make a shit game
they turned an awesome GTA clone but with the ability to knock buildings over with your mighty hammer into a boring cover based shooter with a sarcastic prick protagonist that used the old "oooh secret aliens" plot. the genericness of RFG's campaign was acceptable because I could knock buildings over, but RFA didn't have that
