However, you guys all buy 5-hour games at 60$ already, what's the difference? You'll pay less for the same shite game you would have bought anyway, but some of the extra stuff is optional.
No, this was the premise of DLC. It would be 9.99$/19.99$ and will have content equal to 1/4 or 1/2 of an expansion. This turned out to be a new level created by using old models + new texture giving you a better armor, all of which could be beaten in less than two hours.

I can just see this frequently turning into.
"By the way.. the ending? Yeah. You have to pay us more for it."

I hope they keep some decent amount of content and not just pull a fast one where it's ON THE DISC!!!!

I refuse to buy DLC because in my opinion it's the gaming equivalent of beating a dead horse with a new stick.
When done right, all DLC is are expansion packs under a new method.

Fuck you with a fist, THQ.
You pay less for less content, what is wrong with that.
Because they'll be putting less content in games specifically so you'll have to pay for it.

The fact that few people other than me can see this is, at best, saddening. Are you people really this gullible?
I'm with you. I don't understand the appeal of paying for a virtual key to unlock content that's already on the disk I paid for.

I can see that working.
Just don't go cutting out content from the core game, to make up for the lower price and sell the cut content as DLC later.
Then, all together, it would still be $60 and we wouldn't get anywhere.

Also, if DLC does become more common, don't recycle core game parts into a new area with a hand-full of missions. Create completely new experiences within the game with new items, creatures, and environments. Don't expect the consumer to pay for the same stuff, just in a different order. Make DLC a worthy addition to the game, not a cheap cash-grab.
couldn't have said it any better myself especially the first part.

Translation: Sell most of a game in disc format while simultaneously releasing the rest of the game on DLC for the rest of the cost and-then-some. I guess that's a bit pessimistic...but let's wait and see! I may have just pulled a Cayce...only without the sleeping and, aspirations of being a physician.

I fear that cheaper games will give way to developers releasing partial games, and DLC is to be the next big game market gimmick like shareware. We'll be buying games at lower prices, but developers will be even more inclined to lock content out via DLC. Seems like a way for publishers to get players to pay for demos; I define a demo as any game release that is not complete and missing content, or content is locked away behind a full-game code via Steam, PSN, or Live Marketplace. The content is on the disk, but it must be paid for to be unlocked. The $39.99 price tag isn't going to fool anyone. The next step beyond this would be micro-transactions for individual items in the game: $0.50 for a right pauldron, etc. I'm not surprised that publishers are trying this to squeeze more money out of their consumers.

I mean...idk maybe
I'd think it'd be all right but I'd feel cheated from games like shooters
I mean, it's not like single player campaigns aren't already skimped out (esp when there's no bloody co-op)

Why are people complaining when the game including DLC will sell for the relatively the same price and if you don't want part of the game you don't have to get it. From my position the only losers in this are gamestop and we have come to the conclusion that they are a leach feeding off of the games industry.

Cheaper, partial games should work.

You can nickel and dime most consumers to death; getting them to part with $60 in one go, is alot harder to pull off.

I like the lower price point, but DLC is just an excuse to wait to buy the GOTY/Gold pack. Just PLEASE keep games at the $50 price point, because that is a fair price for a good game.
/disagree

well, maybe if it realy is fift DOLLARS, here in the EU they just go hey guv! lets charge you 60 euro's!
what boils down to 250.000 dollars XD lol.

Yea they specifically put less content compare to the game now, because you pay more now. What the heck is wrong with that. You expect a price reduction and the same amount of product?
Even an idiot can see that...I mean even you can see a half of it.

As long in the end, same amount of money buys same amount of content, I fine with it.

True, that is why Micro-transaction works so well in games that targets casual market. I think they are doing this to make the game appeal to the mass.

I remember Fable 3 did the same thing, they offer the people to buy every chapter to make it more appealing to people that don't know if they will like the game, but at the same time they release box version that cost $60 for people like us, used to buying the full game at once. But I really can't see any harm of doing so, even you buy per chapter the game still only add up to $60. I just don't the people crying about it. You pay equal amount for equal amount of content.

In some places retail at $60 just doesn't work. Offering the game smaller pieces and smaller price should work much better there.
