What about that redneck game?

This happens to whatever console sells the most units. Remember how many crappy ps2 games there were? Because everybody had a ps2. It isn't a reason to ignore the console though, it's a reason to embrace it...
if you're developing anything that's worth playing.

it's all been simple from the start.

Wii - kids, housewives and optimistic star wars fans
PS3 - rich boys
X360 - the red bull gamers
PC - angry, angry guys with glasses
Real life - what?

The wii is a failure in the eyes of most gamers.
Sorry if this is trolling I have no intention to.

Oh THQ. You dare trash talk about the Wii when you are also responsible for it's shovelware.

You tell 'em, brother!

As for the topic, I see where the THQ guy is coming from; you really need to sieve through the crap to get to the good stuff. However, that doesn't mean that the good stuff isn't there, it's just harder to find among a mass of other games.

So what he is saying pretty much, is that they have found that the company can make a whole lot of money off of making poor shovel ware games for the wii, for little risk, whereas they have to develop time and resources towards a 'hardcore' game and they can't be arsed. Plus they get to trash talk Nintendo and get in Sony/Microsofts' good books.

Thanks THQ, you showed how you really think for once. It wasn't pretty either.

Poor developers making The Conduit. Everyone is watching them. If that game doesn't make it... backed by solid titles like House of the Dead, Madworld, Deadly Creatures, etc. the hope for 'core' games on the Wii is soon fading.
It's a do or die situation for them. Even if it appears as if they ripped off Mass Effect.

Wow, that's some harsh words.

What pisses me off about the "hardcore" games for the Wii is that most of them sell piss poorly.

No More Heroes did not sell very well, MadWorld wasn't a giant success, Deadly Creatures probably wasn't well sold, GTA: China Town Wars hardly sold anything in the first week, Okami still didn't sell that well, and The Conduit probably won't sell that great either (hopefully I'm wrong).

And yet the only real reason why these guys are putting the bloody, gorey, kill fests on the Wii is so they can stand out and say "we're different!".

Such irony...I hate this irony...

It would help if they tried to hype the games and advertise them. Putting the games on the shelf won't guarentee sales.

Wow you guys just eat up anything or anyone trash talking Nintendo.
THQ is basically bawwing that their game didn't sell well and feel the need to blame the console for it.

It's their own fault for failing to advertise the game adequately.
Everyone should read this post, nod with at least some form of mutual understanding, and close the thread.

Aside from that is the fact that THQ is creating a good heap of the shovelware already on the system. So why are they complaining?

THQ should pull their head from their confused horse and try more new, thoughtful gaming ideas instead of sheltering under their heap of shit in fear of loosing a few chips. After all, look at No More Heroes: how ridiculously popular it is, that it is 'hard core', and that the only real plot is a guy with a light saber eviscerating the same ten jobbers repeatedly. Gamer gold, that is.

I don't trust the commentary of THQ, a company that is itself mired in hypocrisy and garbage, but it's largely true. I've lost faith in Nintendo, and they haven't gotten a penny from me in five years.

IT'S ABOUT TIME!!!
A developer had the guts to talk about the truth of the Wii, now if only they would stop publishing these crap games Nintendo might get the idea.
Yet he said that THQ would be publishing the same crap that he complained about. He also said "I'm a big believer in that." My point being; THQ is one of the big shit-shovelers on the market, and people are looking to make a quick buck on the Wii. Its a good console, if only people took it seriously like Nintendo and Platinum Studios do.

Death to shovelware, up with games.

Oh, and Keymaster45 brings up an excellent point: that the name change of the console was the start of many gimmicky agonies for Nintendo fans. Maybe if they had stuck with Revolution as a name, this vould have all been avoided...

Ugh...The Wii is a legitimate console just like PS3 or 360. The fact that it doesn't have as powerful graphics as the other two systems doesn't make it inferior, just easier to develop for (no pressure to make each and every game the most beautiful thing ever existed). It's control isn't a gimmick, and if you're flailing your arms up and down "like an idiot", then you're not playing right. Or you have the motion sensor positioned wrong, or you're playing one of the mentioned shovelware games that naturally have crappy controls.

I loved Deadly Creatures, it was definately a unique game, and I'd like to see a sequel or a spiritual follow up that expands on the mechanics and fixes the bugs of the original game. Apparently we won't get that now, thanks THQ.

But, yes, they need to start actually enforcing the Seal of Quality thing again, the level of shovelware is ridiculous.

THQ? Trash talking the Wii? THQ?? The company that doesn't have the nuts to make a good game for the Wii in hopes of bringing it the glory it had the potential for? The company that instead released a line of shovelware shit for it, making it hated by more and more gamers every day?

Just in case anyone is siding with the guy from THQ, scroll up to the top of these games and read the list again.

THQ Trash-Talks the Wii

It's a bit of a shame, because aside from a few notable exceptions - like Deadly Creatures - the Wii-owning core gamer market is virtually untapped and could represent a gold mine for a publisher willing to take it on. On the other hand, the Wii is essentially a gold mine all on its own and it's hard to blame THQ or anyone else for going where the money is.

The situation outlined, at least for me, is all too common even on a college campus, where you'd think a social oriented gaming system consisting of uncoridinated movements would catch on what with all the beer and all, but more often than not the Wii sits on some shelf while a more deserving gaming machine is put to use, like an N64 or a 360.

The fact of the matter is that the Wii is not a compelling system. There is little to keep you playing it, once you've passed the initial novelty of Wii-mote, because the bigger games are little more than gamecube or N64 re-releases, (which were Super Nintendo re-releases in 3D, mind you so the charm has long since worn off) and everything else is shovel ware or, worse, non-games.

Thus, the Wii is nothing more than a Monopoly box in the closet. Something you take out once in a while, but quickly put away because after the fun has faded there is nothing left but a gimmicky scheme behind it and games we have played many, many, times before under better circumstances.

So, really, the Wii owning market is a mine of fools gold. It may be large, but it is incredibly apahtetic.

The problem Nintendo has is they're doing fantastic on their own and offer little support for third party developers. It's a real gamble for developers to spend lots of money on a game for the Wii as for the most part all non nintendo games have sold poorly, extremely poorly. In fact I think the only ones who had success was Ubisoft with The Rabbid games. It's just not attractive anymore, why spend the money when you'll be sure to fail?

Of course, the DS is another case, Konami and Capcom are doing fantastic there.

This is all just ridiculous. Some guy, who's company produces shovelware, complains that his unique IP doesn't sell as well as his companies' licensed games. What? Why should anyone care? Half the stuff on that shelf he was referring to was probably his.

If you're going to make a game about a scorpion and a tarantula, have better selling points than "Voiced by some famous actor you probably don't know" and ""A world of danger and discovery: Infiltrate the gloomy, thorn-filled labyrinth of the Brambles, home to gangs of wolf spiders and vicious black widows...all to reach your final, most dangerous destination: a creepy old gas station on a lonely desert road"

Make your games better and more VISIBLE, and you'll get results. Look at the Big gun commercials. Gears of War, Halo 3, etc. They pushed advertising up the wazoo. They didn't just take out a two page spread in Nintendo Power, they ADVERTISED, and hard. I haven't played Deadly Creatures, because I wasn't sure I'd like it. I've only seen the aforementioned two page spread. Spend money, make money, produce quality games. C'mon THQ, you USED to be cool...

Well, this "junk" is pretty much the reason I don't want a Wii. That and its online system. Too much junk, not enough quality. When your best games are old games for download, you've got a problem. I don't like to hate on the Wii, as it has such potential. But publishers went for the money, and I understand that.
