My favourite games out of the past decade have to be;

2000: Final Fantasy IX
2001: Shenmue II
2002: Zelda: Windwaker
2003: Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic
2004: GTA: San Andreas
2005: Resident Evil 4
2006: Zelda: Twilight Princess
2007: Portal
2008: Fallout 3
2009: So far Ghostbusters The Video Gam but I am hoping to play some better games before the year closes out.

Ot of all of these Str Wars: KOTOR would have to be my favourite.

My Game of the Decade would have to be Saints Row 2. The fact that I can't stop playing this game because it's so fun is reason enough. Any Ratchet and Clank game is a close second, because they are all amazing and I can't pick just one.

No Half-Life 2 on that list? Really?
Half-Life 2 came out in 2004. Rome: Total War is the greatest game of all-time, and also came out in 2004. Therefore...

Plus, as you can clearly see from my choices (and my username), I'm not into shooters.

I've played Rome, and didn't care for it too much- it was fun for a while, but I've always preferred Real Time Strategy to Turn Based. And to dismiss Half Life 2 (or Portal) as simply "shooters" is to do them a great dis-service.
Right. I get it. Valve is god, their games are wonderful, nothing can hold a candle to them. Never mind that I've played HL2 and Portal (thanks to an Orange Box-owning friend) and got bored in minutes.

Also, I don't know what parallel universe you live in, but Rome (and Total War in general) ain't a turn-based game...at least not where the fun parts (the battles) are concerned.

As an aside, take another look at that list and tell me again how you could possibly get the idea that I would enjoy a game like Half-Life 2...assuming you've heard of any of the games I mentioned up there besides Total War and Elder Scrolls games.
Well, obviously personal taste is a factor there, however, I don't see why you needed to adopt a such a supercilious tone in your reply. And the yes, the battles are fun, but a lot of the game takes place on the map- which is turn based. Yes, I have heard of all those games you mentioned. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy Portal or HL2, obviously different people like different things in their games.
Fuck it. Someone OBVIOUSLY loves Rome, not that there's anything wrong with that. I've played both Rome and HL2 and can't really say that either were GREAT. Don't mind the supercilious tone either, Xhumed; you're dealing with someone who put Final Fantasy IX up on their game of 2000 as opposed to, say, Chrono Cross... :p

Well to be exact this decade does not end until December 31 2010. Year 2000 is the last year of the 1990'ies.

Sorry for not being OT but this general misconception irritates me a bit and it is too early in the day for me to remember which games I though were the best 9 years ago :)
Wait, what? Help me understand this, how is it that Jan. 1, 2000, 00:00:00(midnight) to Dec. 31 2009, 23:59:59 does not count as 10 years/decade?
The 21st century didn't start until January 1, 2001. The year 2000 was the very last year of the 20th century...so, he isn't counting the year 2000 as part of the decade.

Ok, thanks dude but uh that still doesn't answer my question. WHY is it that the decade start at 2001 and not 2000? To me, 2000-2010 is this dec...oh wait, it just hit me cause then for the next decade it would have to be 2010-2020 we'd be counting 2010 again so that's why it would be 2011-2020

Oh, it does count as a decade but what is meant in the OP (as far as I can tell) is the first decade in the second Millenium (starting 2001) and just as the Millenium started at January 1st 2001 so does the first decade (and incidentally the first century as well)

EDIT: Apparently Nija'ed

Hmm, not sure. Batman is an awesome game with so much attention to it, and therefore has a good chance. However, Saints row 2 has kept me playing for over 50 hours, as has Fallout 3.
I can't think of many old game, 'cos I was a mere young boy back in the day.

2001: Halo: Combat Evolved
2002: Otogi: Myth of Demons
2004: Fable - Halo 2
2006: Oblivion
2007: Bioshock - Mass Effect -Halo 3 - Portal
2008: Saint's row 2 - Gears of War 2
2009: if there is truly a god maybe Halo 3 ODST

(the reason there are so many spaces shared by more than one title is because I am an indecisive bastard who can't decide between the things he loves.)

People (like myself) have actually created businesses around Rock Band. And people (like myself) actually dropped $250-300 on consoles purely for Rock Band. So thats my pick.

Either that or Portal.

For me, it's either WoW, the best and most popular MMORPG ever released, or Perfect Dark, in my eyes still the most complete (perfect, if you pardon the pun) FPS ever released. Fallout 3, Bioshock and Final Fantasy XII get honourable mentions.

"Kingdom Hearts is a homosexual game that anyone who plays is immature, lame, and enjoys to watch france ass rape sealand without lube."

This is what the text under the Wikipedia link said when I googled "Kingdom Hearts"...

I'll edit in my top ten list soon, I just had to post this... I just... I mean... What the fuck!?

Edit:

2000: Pokémon: Gold & Silver
2001: Jak and Daxter: The Precursor's Legacy
2002: Kingdom Hearts
2003: Jak II: Renegade
2004: Jak 3
2005: Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath
2006: Prey (well... that was a dull year)
2007: Bioshock (that was a tough one)
2008: Resistance 2 (this one was really close)
2009: I can't say... It's not over yet. What I can say, though, is that it won't be as good as any of the games on this list, except for, maybe, Prey.

My game of the decade is a tie between Kingdom Hearts and Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath.
