Well, I can rattle off some great names, but I didn't exactly keep a list of all the good games I've played. Also, I enjoy shooters and Mario, so expect a large bias in my list.

Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga

Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door

Ok got the Mario out of the way, on to the rest!

Half-Life 2

Fallout 3

Ok I should honestly stop here, I can only name more recent games. This is mainly due to my parents being total asses about rating and how games will corrupt me when I was younger. Anyway, I missed out on a bunch of great classics, and some more recent classics (still haven't played bioshock....).

Everyone has different favorites. Instead of going by year, how about going by genre? Sim game, RTS, RPG, MMORPG, FPS, fighter, artillery, platformer, casual, and sports. Add any others I forgot.
My pick: RTS: Warcraft 3
Fighting: SSBM
RPG: Fable
MMORPG: WoW
FPS: Halo
Sim: Sims 2
Artillery: ...Worms?
Casual: Peggle
Sports: Wii Sports
Edit: forgot platformer: Portal
I like the way you think, even though I don't play quite as many genres as you do. I'll restrict this to genres where I've actually played a few games:

RTS: Rome: Total War (I'd put Total War-style hybrid games in a genre of their own, but...)
Turn-Based Strategy: Civilization 4
RPG: Oblivion (barely edging out Morrowind. Barely.)
Trading Sim: Port Royale 2 (edging out Patrician 3 by the tiniest of margins)
Paradox Game: Victoria: Revolutions
Non-Business Sim: Sims 2
Genre-Defying Awesome: Mount&Blade (it's not an RPG, it's not an RTS, it's not a trade sim, but on any given day it can be all three)
Casual: Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords
Sports: ESPN College Hoops 2K5

It's almost that time again, time for decade retrospectives where some journalist with too many deadlines and not enough creativity drags out Shogun and Empire and says "look how gaming has changed from 2000 to 2009" or some such bullshit. But it does invite the question, what's the best game released in this first decade of the 21st century...and is there anything that could come out between now and December 31 to take away the Game of the Decade title from your current clubhouse leader?

I'll break down my list by Game of the Year for each year since 2000:

2000: Final Fantasy IX (the last time a console game was worthy of this award)
2001: Tropico
2002: The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
2003: Rise of Nations (in a close battle with SimCity 4)
2004: Rome: Total War
2005: Hearts of Iron 2 (barely edging out Civilization 4)
2006: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
2007: Europa Universalis III (it's my list, and Portal's not my style)
2008: Mount&Blade
2009 (so far): Empire: Total War.

Anyone who knows me knows this isn't much of a contest, with Rome taking my Game of the Decade award, and nothing conceivably poised to top it (Empire tried but came up well short). So what's the forum got?
You really like RTS's

I am so picky with things like these, and since I'm only 15 this practically has to be my favorite game ever.. probably what if I remember correctly was the second GBA Kirby game. Simply because it was the only thing I played all summer in a cardboard fort my friend and I built during the whole summer break we got to spend together. That game is possibly the best co-op game ever designed . Close tie has to be Final Fantasy Tactics when I first played it on the PSP 2-3 years ago.
Maybe Borderlands will bump off these games since I do love lots of loot.

Alright this might shock some of you but my game of the decade is Knights of the Old Republic, or Kotor. In fact, you might say I am a fan of that game. Uhmm honorable mentions go to WoW, ME, JE, Warcraft III, Oblivion, Fallout 3, HL 2, PORTAL (Such a sweet game.), and of course Dragon Age: Origins. Also I would like to take the time to mention that KotOR II is not on this list because even though I am a fanboy KotOR II disappointed me.

My votes go to:

2000 Deus Ex
2001 Grand Theft Auto III
2002 Burnout 2: Point of Impact
2003 Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
2004 Burnout 3: Takedown
2005 Battlefield 2
2006 Black
2007 Portal
2008 Left 4 Dead
2009 Batman: Arkham Asylum

With game of the decade being... um... geez... I dunno... probably Burnout 3: Takedown for being the first awesome and more importantly, playable, online PS2 game :)

Oh, and 2002 seems to be a bit of a barren year for good games or is it just me?

Half-Life 2 came out in 2004. Rome: Total War is the greatest game of all-time, and also came out in 2004. Therefore...
Suuuure. that's why Burnout 3 Takedown came out in 2004 as well and won the Bafta award for best game.

My GOTY? Hmmm. Hard to say. I still have to play Brutal Legend, Uncharted 2 and Fallout 3 GOTY. So until now, I'm all up for Arkham Asylum and Infamous.

I couldn't quite narrow it down to one per year, but here's a short list of some of my favourites.

2000: Diablo 2, Space Empires IV, Shogun:Total War, Red Alert 2
2001: Civilization 3, Star Trek: Armada II
2002: Disciples 2, James Bond 007: Nightfire
2003: Freelancer, Galactic Civilizations, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, War of the Monsters (I don't know why, but I loved this game)
2004: Killzone, Star Wars: Battlefront
2005: Burnout Revenge, Star Wars: Battlefront II
2006: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Galactic Civilizations II, Rainbow Six: Vegas, Sword of the Stars
2007: Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars, Mass Effect, Supreme Commander
2008: Fallout 3, Sins of a Solar Empire, Spore (just kidding - certainly my biggest disappointment of the decade though),
2009: Demigod, Demon's Souls

I measure the game of the decade by its worldwide success... and by that route, I want one person to show me any game with more worldwide acclaim than World of Warcraft. I don't even like the damn game, to be honest, but I acknowledge it as being the Game of the Decade simply by the rabid fever it generated and the massive following it contains unto today.

The GAME of the Decade has to be Halo 3, wether you liked it or not!

No game had more build up, no game had more hype, no game has ever had as big a debut (except maybe E.T.). and no game is STILL played with as much ridiculous fervor. Best Selling game of 2007, the fastest pre-selling game to date, made $170 million in one day, and made every FPS since the 1st one try desperately to be a "Halo-killer", all failed!!!

Halo 3 and the Halo series defined the new era of gaming and defined the 2000s as the decade where gaming became an entertainment fixture.
for some. others, like me, hated it to the inner dephts of Hades.
