I heard the Oz rumour and sneered. Man used to have talent and is now turning in to a hack. Also, please tell him to spit out Depp's nuts (or vice versa) understand that no one is impressed when he casts his wife again.

Man is a joke.

haha, wouldn't suprise me. Wizard of Oz or something really vague... he might do a Charles Dickens book soon.

(the best part of Alice was when i realised the big monster had the same voice as Diz from Kingdom Hearts :p)
The worst part of Alice was that that monster had no more than ten lines.
hahaha, soo right. i was really dissapointed. i was expecting at least a few "ROXAS!"'s >.>

I have a pretty equal love/hate ratio when it comes to Burton's films, but I don't think I'd want to see a Burton style Wizard of Oz.

I dunno. I didn't MIND Alice that much. I did wish Burton stayed closer to the original story.

Ha ha ha! Love the title of the thread.

OT, I heard horrible rumours of a remake for one of the greatest films ever, Wizard of Oz. I don't trust him at all, Wonka was average and Alice is terrible, it was so bad I would of left 20mins in but unfortunatly I was with friends.

I feel he has just lost it, like all other well known developers, he had his time (I think) and now just does it for some quick money making.

Tim Burton's fine, quit whining.

Also, since everyone else already suggested Oz, I'm going to suggest The Little Prince. It could be pretty awesome.

This man needs to be stopped.
I am tired of Tim Burton destroying every work that I loved with some crappy musical with bells and whistles thrown on it. Not to mention Johnny Depp...

If this movie is put into motion, there will be outcry, I can guarantee it.

I WILL FIND YOU TIM BURTON!

*but seriously, I would hate to see this happen, I love the Wizard of Oz, ive grown up with it and Ive seen enough of what Tim Burton does.

He's remade these classic stories in dark form.
So which is next?
I say the Wizard of Oz.
You seem forget that a lot of these classic stories already existed in dark form, then were changed to seem cheery and happy.

I nearly had a heart attack when rumours came out he was going to do 1984.

Burton, you stay the FUCK away from Orwell's stuff.
I will flip if he goes near that! Someone should do something with 1984 though...or some of his short stories.

Also, to all who don't want him to remake The Wizard of Oz; how do you feel about him doing Wicked?

I dont really know what to think about Mr. McBurton. He is pretty bad but at the same time he is relatively okay. Sweeney Todd comes to mind which I thought was a relatively okay movie and I really hate musicals. I also sat through that Scissorhand thing which was not to horrible either. Not great but not horrible.

Overall Burton seems pretty washed up. A formula that works and is marketable. What more could anyone ask for? That is pretty much why Burton is still around, because he can peddle merchandise. Want an example? Who in their right mind would possibly want a bobble headed fucked up looking queen lady on their shirt to proudly wear around all the day long. It sells though and I cannot fathom it. Hell I still cannot believe they still make money on Nightmare before Christmas crud (this is my argument with all old movie merchandise they bring around again, I'm looking at you scarface).

Where Burton is going next? How about the Smurfs? Or Winnie the Fucking Pooh.

Eh I use to like his films.. now it's just Depp and Helena Bonham Carter over and over and over, playing very similar characters and not focusing on much of anything else. Oh well I still rather like his zany art style and OP's suggestion of Wizard of Oz might be interesting.

Surely a Burton movie is, by definition "A Movie with Depp or Carter in it"?

I'd like him to try to fit his style to the screenplay rather than mash a screenplay into his style. In other words, stop trying to be Tim Burton and just try to make good films again. You know, the way it worked in Beetle Juice, Edward Scissorhands, Sleepy Hollow, and Batman. If he doesn't, he's going to end up with me hating him like I hate Tarantino, who directed 2 great films and has since turned to massive ego-wanks instead of quality films (though he does retain a flair for music in them).

Unless you grew up loving Sweeney Todd like no child's business, I can't recall the last time Burton did a musical.

Not to mention Johnny Depp...
At least Depp's a good actor. He could have cast Jaleel White in all his movies, or something.

If this movie is put into motion, there will be outcry, I can guarantee it.

Calm down you twit, it hasn't been.

And for that matter, what on earth are you talking about? You haven't referenced a single thing Burton has done that displeases you (besides the musical thing, which wasn't a valid point) besides being Tim Burton. I think it says something about our culture that we prefer the watered down, Bowlderized versions of stories to the original versions: Darker, but with a distinct purpose in its telling.

Also original poster you should have put "opinion, Alice" instead of a full stop

Anyway on topic, I don't know. I don't mind his films that much, Coraline was very good however Nightmare before Christmas was massively overrated both as a film and it terms of music
Coraline was directed by Henry Selick.
As was Nightmare. Burton is only the producer.
Ah, that explains why I only like those 2 movies.

Well.....corpse bride was ok.

Burton in 1984 would give it a happy ending: Where Winston Smith is an outcast but still manages to come triumphant at the end. And that would be the most accurate part of the movie.

And Oz seems like a "perfect" match for him. It has the (family friendly) wickedness, the fantasy, the outcast main character, the characters that could be adapted into Depp and Boham Carter (Scarecrow and Wicked Witch)... The only limitation for him not to do it right now is that WB instead of Disney has the distribution rights.
