Anna Diop, who plays Starfire on upcoming comic book show, "Titans" had her Instagram account flooded with racist insults. She disabled the comment section and hasn't left social media so far, but this is still horrible nonetheless. This behavior from fandom is completely beyond the pale.

This, by the way, is not the first time she's had to deal with something like this. When set pictures leaked this April, she responded to comments.

But why did they cast an afro actor as Starfire when the charcater clearly did not look like an afro-american person, haven't these hollywood types learned from similar controversies by now? They made The Human Torch a black guy in Fant4stic, even though he's supposed to be the twin brother of Invisable Woman and Invisable Woman is still a blonde haired white woman in the movie.

And don't bring up the fact that Starfire is an Alien, because Superman is an Alien, and can you imagine if they made Superman black in a mainstream big budget Movie? Holy shit the racists will rise up and revolt!

But regardless, yeah fuck those jerks racially insulting her either way.

Sue and Johnny aren't twins.

As for Kory, she isn't exactly a white woman in the comics, so the race of the actress shouldn't matter. No one seemed bothered when they cast Zoe Saldana as Gamora who is green.

Could have sworn they were twins in certain artstyles of them in the comics, but they are brother and sister. Unless in Fant4stic they are not or they are step brother and sister?

And I think they did not mind Zoe Saldana as Gamora becausde she is not dressed like a street hooker with big curly hair?

They're adoptive siblings in Fan4stic. Sue is adopted.

Also, take a look at what Kory looks like in the comics and tell me that "street hooker with big curly hair" doesn't describe her.

I don't condone any actual, real racism that is directed towards her.
Using shocking words for effect or questioning her choice as Starfire is not racism though.

And still nothing has been learnt about trying to diversity wash an established character.

Seeing as Starfire's usual skin color is orange, it could have worked (with CGI or green contact lenses and skin paint surely works on dark skin too, right?), but they just had to have her starting out the season as black-skinned.

Eh, Starfire's an alien; I don't think anyone would mind whichever skin color the actress happened to have if they'd slathered said actress in orange paint and gave her green contacts so that she would actually resemble the character she's portraying. But I guess that's not how we do things anymore in 2018.

As for her getting racist insults, well, what else is new? Idiots gonna idiot, particularly when media seems to have a full-blown symbiotic relation going with them.

Eh, Starfire's an alien,
So is Superman.
we need a mexican superman raised by immigrant farmers to make conservative heads explode
Or again, make him a black man and have the racists come out of the closet and revolt.

Starfire is orange, but lets be real here there wouldn't be as much hate if it was a white actress

Well, least we know why actual aliens won't visit Earth. We treat our own kind so horribly, how would we treat them?

I know, right? They should have cast an orange-skinned human. And Beast Boy should have been played by a green-skinned human. And Raven should have been played by an actress who genuinely did have demon issues.

I notice that no-one is upset at Ryan Potter (white) playing Beast Boy, but apparently a black actress is "diversity washing" when playing an orange-skinned alien.

Was Tilda Swinton subject to racial epiphets?

While there was controversy over her, most of it seemed to come from media, whereas here, it's from fans. Don't know if you've noticed, but fans tend to be much more vicious.

She's a person of different complexion being put in the spotlight of countless insular judgemental fuckwits. Society in these moments turns really shit like that as the fuckwits just have to belittle the different person through a myriad of weak justifications. Is it another example symptomatic of a larger problem? Shut up, nothing to see here, you're the symptom of a larger problem!

I did a ctrl-f on both the links you gave, that word didn't come up. Is this related to that "Fuck Batman" trailer that came on the other day, that was hilariously bad.
