Now it jumped to 1777. Seems like they just update it every day or so and it's not actually an accurate animation.

Alright! 1777 and still more than half the sand is in the hourglass. That means we're going back to the pre-gunpowder era! Thank GOD! The only question is, how far will it go? Personally, I'd go for either Rome 2, or even slightly back in time, to before the rise of Rome. A lot of fun stuff going on then...

I want it to have ancient China, India or South America. Or all of them.

By the way, I wouldn't mind a Total War game set in a fantasy setting. CA, make notes!

Why expect bullshit and historical inaccuracies? So far, I haven't seen many mistakes in the TWs except for starting positions, and that was for balancing.
I think CA gets less and less accurate the further they go back in time. Screeching women? Wardogs? Warpigs? Gladiator units? Arcani? No. Not good. Unless you can prove that Empire is just as inaccurate in such blatant ways...
Come on, who didn't love masked dual-sword-wielding Roman ninjas?

NINJA POWEEEEEERRRRR!!!

They totally should have had a short ranged shuriken attack too. Like, totally.

These are apparently some of the tools they're creating the sound effects with. Seems like it's definitely not going to be anywhere near the age where gunpowder was near.

Since apparently the image doesn't work just click the link and look at it there if you're interested.

The date isn't going back at a regular pace. And I'm not sure the hourglass graphic is changing at all, in which case the amount of sand left wouldn't be a good indication of how far back it's got to go. Can someone who's watched it longer than me tell me if the sand is actually moving?

Right now it's at 1769, BTW.

Rome 2 seems like the most likely option, but fingers crossed for Three Kingdoms: Total War.
Three Kingdoms? What time period would that be?

Edit: I've been watching it for a while now and I haven't really noticed any movement at all.

The Three Kingdoms period of ancient China [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_kingdoms], 3rd century AD. Lots of competing factions, lots of wars. Seems pretty good for a Total War game. And it's one of the periods of Chinese history best known to westerners. Western history is more popular so it seems unlikely, but on the other hand they did start the franchise with Shogun.

As regards your edit, that would mean we have no idea when the countdown will end.
Ah, thanks. That does sound like a potentially good setting for a TW game.

is there gonna be a remake its gonna be shogun i hope would have though other suitable eras would around the 30 years war for its nice mix of gunpowder coming into use but still a large emphasize on hand weapons or the period between the fall of Rome and the middle ages for its pure chaos factor.

I really want Rome2; the first one was pretty awesome and a remake with current gen graphics and all the new features would be delicious; I'd certainly buy that unlike Napoleon TW...

Hmmm... that's not particluarly conclusive. It might just be moving away from gunpowder again, it's still wide open.
There's also this. [http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2010/05/28/son-of-a-shogun-shogun-2-total-war/#more-31053]

Sorry to disappoint you but on the official forums they(an admin) called that Turkish website an obvious fake.

Edit:

"Guys, speculate to your hearts content but please do not attempt to derail this thread by posting links to what is clearly fictitious and unsubstantiated information, I will not be giving out any more warnings on this point.

Anyone who posts such information or links to it from this moment on will receive 1 day bans.

Thank you."

That's exactly what he said.

I would like to see a proper full world version, complete with the ability to play all factions from Major Powers to small island tribes. Also with a time scale that doesnt go fowards one bloody year every turn...

I hated seeing this comment:

[quote/]No gunpowder, no care tbh[/quote]

I can understand someone enjoying Empire's combat more than say, Rome's, but I can't see why someone would actually DISLIKE and then decide on his avoidance of the game based on the lack of guns: The games had four games and many expansions with guns being almost not even an afterthought. It makes me sad to see that kind of thing.
