Dear OP:

I can always find time to celebrate the public humiliation and downfall of a total douchebag. I think I'll have a beer tonight and toast his demise.

Well, this was amusing, then frustrating then amusing again. At least it's over.

Justice Proudman sounds like a Paladin name from W3 :D

Agreed. This whole thing was absolute horse shit from the beginning. Now all we need to do is try and get the big bio-tech and pharma companies to release the patents they've put on human genes.
Don't worry, medical patents and licenses last only 50 years (According to some international contracts), . So they all should expire sooner or later. This is also the reason why after a certain drug comes to the market - really soon there, will be tens of similar drugs that are based on the same molecule. But if the companies do not use their "inventions" on a medical field then these rules don't apply.

And again, he had it coming. Now if Apple could release "I" from the trademark "words". And other people realize that you can not claim copyright on a word... Words don't even exist for Atheismo's sake...

Jeez, he just doesn't know when to quit, does he? Glad to see this is finally over, that way I won't come across that face again.

I'm not a lawyer but I can't see where there's anything left for Langdell to salvage, and while I certainly won't mourn the end of his trademark trolling, I can't honestly find enjoyment in seeing a man so thoroughly and publicly humiliated and destroyed.
Then remember all of the developers he stepped on to make his money.

I relish cases like these; when the defendant has successfully navigated and circumnavigated the law through loopholes and false pretense, only to have the scheme destroyed utterly.
At least we now know that Trademark Trolling won't be flaring up again anytime soon.

By far one of the most hilarious things I've read in a while. Just when you thought it was over... well... now it REALLY is!

That poor bastard has had his entire "perfectly legitimate" business model pulled so hard over his head that he's now wearing it as a belt. In my own short life thus far I've seen way too many of this type of person taking the money and fleeing before real, appropriate state-approved justice can be dealt against them. That this happened so unexpectedly and so completely is certainly freeing for me. I don't think Tim, or his various attempted businesses will be bothering us the same way again.

I'll be honest, reading this was almost like playing Phoenix Wright, but instead we're rooting for the prosecution...

Everybody, read it again with this playing, and read it like you're yelling. It's fantastic! Good choice.

Nice to see that they finally stopped him. But seriously he was paid 250,000 and then continued? That's just stupid

Secondly, am I right in thinking that Future Publishing gave this guy $250,000 just to shut him up?
Nope, they gave him $500'000! Edge games only has the one employee after all.

I hope this ruling means that a number of large publishers with the letter A prominent in their name are about to litigate the ever loving shit out of him. Sometimes bad things happen to good people, but Mr Langdell has made it his career to scam, threaten and crook money out of entirely innocent people based on nothing more than his own spite. I sincerely hope he gets dragged through the dirt until nothing is left on the outside than the snivelling, dishonest and nasty shite that's on the inside.

Funny pun!
And true, he had it coming.
Seems the court (at least this one) can make just and correct calls as well as the mistakes that most often appear on news sites.

$500,000 dollars and he just couldn't shut up. For that much money, I would stop ever talking about FF8 like I do around here and be HAPPY. For money like that, I would even lay off the Jack Thompson jokes, the Fox News jokes, and be kinder to my brother. And this guy couldn't stop going "EDGE!" for a while?

Pffft...dumbass.

*blah*

The beating continued. Proudman noted that "as Edge magazine's success grew, Dr. Langdell's behavior became increasingly burdensome." Future eventually agreed to pay $250,000 to Edge Interactive Media and another $250,000 to Langdell himself, "although the total sum was paid into Dr. Langdell's bank account," to buy out all related trademarks, but then Langdell went ahead and "deliberately adopted a logo which is an obvious replica of the claimant's Edge mark."

*blah*
I'm afraid this, and all of the "$500,000!" comments are incorrect. The linked written judgement lists the amounts as $250,000 and $25,000 for the EIM and the con-man respectively:

From bailii.org [http://www.bailii.org/ew/cases/EWHC/Ch/2011/1489.html]:

42. Agreement was reached in 2004, both with EIM and with Dr Langdell. The result was a Concurrent Trading Agreement ("CTA") with EIM and a Deed with Dr Langdell. Each was paid a substantial sum of money in consideration of entering into the deeds, $250,000 to EIM and $25,000 to Dr Langdell, although the total sum was paid into Dr Langdell's bank account.
Just makin' things clear. The article probably needs an edit. Also, the full ruling is an extensively entertaining read, and I actually find it easier to understand. Good stuff.
