I'm happy with this one

EDIT: Also this feels slightly ironic since it doesn't feel that Ubioft even tried to do much to improve the Assassin's sequels technically or graphically. I mean they're trying to push one out every year which definitely suggests they aren't putting a full development cycle in

i agree with ubisoft, never thought i would say that.... im so sick of playing crap games on the pc that are still stuck using outdated graphics because the industry is still catering to outdated consoles -_-

hmm I never really wanted photorealism, but now that's what we will get. I guess someone out there is looking forward to it.

Considering that some games that I want haven't come out yet, I hope they wait a year or two for the next console, preferably when I have a job that will allow me to afford said new console.

Xbox 1492? The fuck? What does that mean?

Is Xbox 1492 seriously the name of the next Xbox console?
I believe that it will be built like an old sailing ship and will be able to sail the ocean blue, just like Columbus in 1492. =P

I hadn't heard any news about what the name of the new Xbox could be except 720.

Yes, what we need is better graphics. Near-photorealism isn't enough for me, I want many more millions of dollars to be poured in the graphics race so the industry becomes so bloated with expensive but graphically advanced shooters that it finally crashes.

Nobody cares about gameplay creativity or artistic expression, all that matters is that the next yearly installement of (the once innovative) Assassin's Creed can come out on a brand new 600$ console.
maybe it's not just graphical fidelity, it's rendering MORE so you can have MORE game in your game.

so games like Grand Theft Auto can be bigger. So we can have bigger levels, more NPCs in those levels, and have a greater attention to detail.

Perhaps one day we could have a giant world where you can go into each and every building, travel anywhere in a fully-realized WORLD (not just city) and have realistically reacting citizens to your actions.

of course there will always be the shallow-minded developers (and consumers) who just want to see more realistic guns and death in their next Cash-In of Duty, but i just want to see the power to make a game HUGE and EXPANSIVE (since i'm a big fan of non-linear sandbox games).

Who knows? maybe one day we could see Prototype or InFamous or some other open-world superhero game with world-wide destruction and mayhem. Sure it would take away the focus, but think of the fun!

Hey Ubi start pushing the current gen consoles to the limits and then we'll talk.

What do you think? Has game design become stale from working with the same hardware for too long? I never considered that new technical toys might push design concepts forward, but I don't think better processing is necessarily going to result in better games.
Has game design become stale? Count up how many games use the Unreal 3 engine. How many Call of Duty rehashes do Activision plague us with? The only innovation in years has been the emergence of the "casual" market who'd rather stand up and flap their arms around and stroke small children called Milo, than gamers with joypads and actual great games that push the boundaries.

Crysis was a technological leap with jaw dropping graphics, gameplay and features that pushed mighty PC hardware to its knees. Crysis 2 was a Call of Duty clone with dated graphics and a funky mechanic. The graphics card in my PC alone is worth more than my 360 console, but the only games I can play on either are the ones designed for 6 year old hardware. SIX years, which in technoology terms is huge, it a long time without an update.

With multi core processing and 32nm dies the next gen of hardware should give us mindblowing physics, lighting and particle effects, the most immersive soundstage and judging by LA Noire, even more incredible and realistic visuals. This means developers can flex their muscles and design without the limitations 6 year old hardware imposes, the best game they can not just the best they're able to. Not to mention the maturity of online content delivery systems and high storage formats like Blu Ray.

To illustrate some of the above, a new, current gen GeForce GTX580 has over 10 times the processing power of the PS3 or 360. 10 times. Current gen game design isn't just stale. Rigor mortis set in years ago and it smells so bad noone is prepared to go in and move the corpse.

Fuck no, Ubisoft! The current console have at least 3 years left in them, if not more.

If it ain't broke, it doesn't have enough stuff on it yet.

OT: I am pretty happy with the current console generation, I also have a backup of games from the PS1 era anyways. Take your time console devs.

I for one would welcome a new console generation. Mostly because of the improvements it would mean for multi-platform games on the PC (which is my primary platform). If enough interesting exclusives come out for the new gen consoles I wouldn't mind picking one up either.

I would have to say this is long overdue to be said. Seriously, the 360 and PS3 were ahead of most PC's in power when they came out, but they are lagging behind now.
Just so long as they don't make contrivances the big thing. Kinect is cool, but it is just a peripheral, not the whole system.
Make it so.

If they can build a new console, that is cheap, easier for developers to code for, backwards compatible, and not prone to breaking. By all means do so.

I am no expert, but other people have said you can buy a superior computer for less than the price of the current consoles. If that is the case then it makes sense to start thinking about the next gen.

If so I do hope they make it an optional gimmick, because I wouldn't want to pay for it.

Says the company with the billion dollar franchise. For every Ubisoft there are 20 companies saying 'Please, God Jesus, NO!.'

I don't see why any developer wouldn't want more delicious polygons and more virtual clay and better laws of physics and AI to work with for their creations.

We still haven't got all the potential out of the current gen consoles yet, we won't need a new generation for years.
Are you joking? They reached the potential years ago. The only place they had left to go was adding motion controls so they can market silly games which allow people to dance about in their living rooms like prats because Joe Public can't use a joypad with more than two buttons.

I really am fine with the current generation, after all Skyrim looks so much better than Oblivion it's incredible they're part of the same console generation.
Oblivion is 5 years old. Of course Skyrim looks better, but as you point out it's the same hardware generation. So after a 5 year wait, the next TES game will be the same gen as the last one...it will be outdated as soon as we get new hardware. I love TES series and it's tragic that the newest title in the series will be last gen within a couple of years. Imagine how much better it could've been and how much longer it could've lasted had it been designed for a newer and much more capable hardware platform released last year (with multicore processing, tesselation, etc). Instead it's been designed, cross platform so it works on 6 year old hardware. Developers are so stifled I'm surprised there haven't been reports in the news about them suddenly dying of asphyxiation.

The only reason I'm not on my knees in tears that TES5 is dated before it's even released, is that I'll be getting the PC version which means the community will release higher res textures, mods galore and tons of improvements to take advantage of at least some of the platforms significantly higher capabilities while my console brethren will get the 6 year old version with only whatever bug fixes and DLC they can get through marketplace/psn.

Just look at the difference [http://www.pcgameshardware.de/aid,812713/Dragon-Age-2-Demo-im-Download-und-Technik-Test-plus-DirectX-11-Vorschau-Mirror-Update-2/Rollenspiel-Adventure/Test/] between DX9 and DX11 for DA2. To clarify, console players get the blurry, crappier images. And that's just shadows and textures, let alone all the other features like tesselation, multithread rendering and so on.

Nobody is saying "IT SHOULD BE RIGHT NOW. MAKE A NEW CONSOLE. RELEASE IT NOW!".

It's more a long the lines of "Let us know you're working on a new console and give us the means to be ready to develop games for it's release".

Given games for a complete new format tend to take a year if not more to complete, it's hardly an immediate thing.

Yes, in a struggling economy where thousands are loosing their jobs and the price of food is rising, wanting people to invest in a new gaming system that could cost upwards and more then 500 dollars at launch if we are lucky, is a sound buisness tactic.

Just push the PS3 and the 360, and whatever the hell this new Nintendo system is to their limit before we have to get something eles. From what I hear the new Nintendo thing may only be slightly better then the 360, which means they may still use the same standard untill the others upgrade anyway.

Dont get me wrong I'd love to see what the next generation can come up with, if the Unreal 3 demo is anything to show we may have finally found its peak. They just have to develope larger storage systems to hold all that information in. LA Noire alone costs 3 Xbox discs and nearly a full PS3. To cope with a new generation we'd need to either have all games digitally downloaded onto a terrobyte or more of HDD, or have gaming discs that could hold over several hundred Gigabytes.

All that is expensive to develope and make, and with people who can't even afford the cost of living, its not in the cards. If we see a turn in the economy, maybe. But for now, no thanks. I can't even see myself getting the 3DS any time soon.
