I'm inclined to think that Ubisoft pulled the plug not because of the controversy but because the game was destined to bomb badly, and that's fair enough. It just would've been nice if it could have figured that out before things got to this point.
actually, i think the game was destined to fail due to the perfect storm created by their stupid, stupid, so frakkin' stupid advert followed by the PEGI rating.

basically, with their ad, they ensured that the game would never be sold (legitimately) to kids; but when PEGI rated it and found it tame, it ensured the game would never be sold to adults, either. with that asinine marketing ploy, they alienated both possible markets. brilliant move. hope they fire the advertising firm that thought it up.

This upsets me greatly. I really wanted to import this and try out with my friends (All male too btw lol). I don't understand why they couldn't release it online in the Ubisoft store or something.

So they don't actually dare?

I wonder how much money they wasted on advertising.
apparently not enough. I live in London and only heard of the game because of articles here.
I fully support PEGI. Their ratings system is quite robust and consistently sets best practices for other ratings bodies.

Also, anyone else interested that there's never been a call for age ratings on books? Because there are definitely some messed up books.

Oh, don't worry. I'm keeping this article in the back of my mind, and the next time people from the UK start making "AMERICANS ARE TOO UPTIGHT ABOUT SEX WHAT IS WRONG WITH THOSE PEOPLE" posts, I will whip this out and say "Hey, we aren't the only ones banning stuff; why'd you guys cry until We Dare got canned? Oh, YOU personally didn't do that? Well, sweeping generalizations of an entire group of people based on what piece of land they live on can be a *****.".
Except it wasn't banned.

Ubisoft withdrew it.

Because they are economic girly men. Arnie would be furious.

I really don't think this game would've made much impact here at all. We'd all have a good laugh at it then find other salacious games to play which are more likely to lead to inebriated poonani.

You ain't got nothin' on us, you prudish prudes, you.

Pssh. Serves them right for trying to add their disgusting pornography to our children's electronic toys.

Now if you'll excuse me, I've got a busy weekend full of fun [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beat_'Em_%26_Eat_'Em] family [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Custer's_Revenge] games [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RapeLay] that don't depict worse situations than in that filthy We Dare.

While I understand some people may have things against it, any pervert worth his salt prolly won't buy this.

Why?

From the description, it says it "involves spanking, flirting, and kissing."

...Yeah, because perverts go wild over telling a girl her shoes are cute.

...Now The Sims on the other hand, you can seduce an entire neighborhood and make them be your sex slaves, cheating on their others, and raising your bastard children. And let's not get started on mods from the community...

Spanking doesn't seem so bad now, does it?

I wondered how long it would be under a conservative government before they started trying to outlaw fun!
Except PEGI are a non-governmental organisation, so Mr Cameron and Mr Tea Boy have absolutely nothing to do with this.

and as for ubisoft, they stand guilty of moral cowardice.
Well, they are French.

The people of the U.K. just lost out on the best line ever.

I am genuinely upset that I will never get to deploy that line.

It seems to me that there is a much better reason to get upset about / cancel this game. That is that it looks like and awful game, and is honestly just kinda sad. I can only really picture forever alone guy buying it in the first place.

Im usually one of the first in line to call bullshit on overprotective parents screwing up everyone elses fun but this game looks truly shit and im just gonna have to go ahead and thank those parents for preventing such a piss poor excuse for a game from making it to our shelves.

I wonder what that games single player is like..

Pansies. They should have stood there ground if for no other reason then to back up the PEGI on their decisions. I do appreciate PEGI's response though. You tell those easily manipulated protesters who's boss!

If nothing else, it suggests a lack of validity on the part of PEGI, which made a decision and stood by it, and that makes the whole system look bad.
Ummm... no it doesn't. PEGI reviewed the material present in the actual GAME part of the whole equation and determined it contained nothing more then light sexual references which 12 year olds can easily understand. If the game is presented as highly sexual in nature that is a lie from Ubisoft and they should be called out on it not PEGI. The ratings board has the responsibility of rating the actual content, not the ad campaign.

PEGI did it's job and stood by it's decision even under fire and they should be recognized for that. Normally I like Ubisoft but really... this was their fault.

Does anyone really care? Seriously?
Its a pathetic party game for a consol swiftly being overtaken by rival companies and it wouldn't surprise me if they release the game anyway, hoping the controversy boosts their sales... somehow...
