Thank you pirates. Thank you so much.
Its because of you little shits that companies like Ubisoft feel justified for pulling shit like this. This has to be the worst DRM idea I've heard of since SecruROM. (another sigh) Well.. at least the PC version comes with all of the DLC...
Oddly enough, one begets the other. Funny how GREED is the root cause of all this, as its companies that want to ensure an income and pirates want to ensure their free gaming. Oddly enough, it'll be the pirates that save gaming and eventually, all entertainment media. Evetually companies will recognize that their methods of protecting their product aren't working, and their safeguards are only hurting sales. Things will change.. They just have to bang their collective heads on the cinder block wall of consumerism a bit more for them to get it. Can't Play ACII on your lap top at 37000 feet? Or on a train thru a particularily hilly area? How about watching that Blue Ray movie without an HDMI? Hope you like your High def. in 1080i.. Makes you really appreciate spending that $4500 on the new LED. DRM is the WRONG way to manage fair distribution. Always has been always will be. You can thank MICROSOFT for that fine idea.
Hmm... a compelling argument... but you make the assumption that the various companies will EVER wake up and see the facts of the issue... of course, I'm simply operating under the OPPOSITE assumption... oh... and you used "Oddly enough" twice. I don't quite see how all of that tech babble helped your argument though... but... otherwise... fair enough.

Ubisoft... I don't think of good things when I hear that name. The games always seem generic when they have that logo. That is my PERSONAL oppinion, of which I am entitled to.

This is just another Socialist move toward Communist gaming. That Austrailian guy will be the gaming Hitler while Rockstar Games will be the wild cowboy USA. Or maybe they wil start telling us what we can and cannot play. Who knows.

At this point, Im starting to think if you cant beat them. Join them.

The War on Piracy is one that will never be won. Publishers can either try to use Piracy in their favor (Like EA is experimenting with) and reward customers for buying the product, or they can become hyper protective like Ubisoft is doing and drive away legitimate customers.

I think Piracy is a symptom of current poor business practices, as much as it is an issue.

If Publishers:

1: Release titles with CD Keys/CD Checks
2: Offer continued Patching and support via that CD Key
3: Offer some form of online component that requires a CD Key
4: Reward paying customers rather than attempting to punish Pirates
5: Charge reasonable prices for new releases. ($30-$40)

Then I think people would be less inclined or motivated to Pirate titles on release, and more willing to support companies like Ubisoft and AAA titles such as Assassins Creed 2.

I am far more inclined to buy S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Call of Pripyat for $30 without SecuRom, Tages or Limited Installs, than I am to pay $60 for Assassins Creed 2 with constant connection DRM.

I purchased POP on Release day to support Ubisofts lack of DRM on the title in the hope of encouraging more of the same. I boycotted Far Cry 2 until the DRM was removed. I have tried speaking out with my Wallet and Ubisoft simply isn't listening.

I bought Assassins Creed 1, I want to play Assassins Creed 2. However, I will not allow Ubisoft to treat me like shit for being a paying customer.

Hey Ubisoft, I know you have an office in Shanghai and all but that doesn't mean you're supposed to act like Communist Dictators.

I really have nothing else to say about this, other than I'm considering uninstalling Rainbow Six Vegas 2 from my comp (it's the only Ubisoft PC game I own and although they do have my money it's more of the symbolism)

Gee, and I thought game companies were making progress in less-restrictive alternate forms of DRM too....

Oh well. No AC2 for me either, it appears...

Glad I got the game for 360...

Hey developers! If you happen to be selling a game through Steam, then guess what? It doesn't need DRM, mmkay?

This, I fully agree with. When I look at my very meager collection of games, almost all of them feature some sort of online component that requires an purchased account, or long-term promises of updates and patches, which are made far more accessible if you've that cd key/serial number. I'm not consciously avoiding titles that do not offer the same kind of continual gameplay, but it is clear that they have to strive much harder to earn the very dubious honor of not being played very often by me...

EDIT: This is also a very good argument to support indie game development. Indie games very, very rarely feature DRM, and are often much more inventive when it comes to offering players a reason to pay and stick around, regardless of whether it is solid online components, a dedicated community, or just the warm glow in yer belly that comes from giving 25 dollars to a small, hard-working team of trendy rebel nerds, instead of throwing 70 bucks down the maw of the ever-hungry mainstream game industry behemoth...

WHOAH!!! HOLD UP THERE UBISOFT!!! I already miss out on playing MMO's and multiplayer because we're still stuck on dial-up. Don't deny me single player as well.

This is a supremely bad idea, and as damn near everyone else has said, it will just promote the very action that Ubisoft is trying to prevent.

Go Go Gadget - Pirates, I guess.

I was never a big fan of the Ass Creed games, but seeing these sort of business decisions always makes me /boggle just a bit.

Man....look at how bad their stock has fallen in the last year or two. Why would they do this? It's only going to make their stock bomb even more.

NOOOOO!

SOFTWARE PIRATES, SAAAAAAAAAVE UUUUUUUUSSSSSSSS!

Seriously, this is dumb.

It kind of makes sense when EA does this for games like the Battlefield series, because you need to be online to play those games anyway; there really isn't much single player action to be had there. For a single-player game like 'Screed? Makes no sense.

Even if I do buy this game, I'll probably get the crack just so I don't have to muck around with that nonsense. I might even rip it off, wholesale, out of sheer spite. We'll see.

I feel bad for the shareholders who are going to lose their investment because of this brilliant idea.
Well, if any of them are paying attention, maybe they'll get rid of the Ubisoft stocks.

Well, they lost my will to purchase it. I'll get it for my 360 now, where I don't feel like I'm being accused of being a pirate.

The shitty thing for me is that I was planning on buying this for my laptop so I can play it while I'm on a road-trip. This totally just fucked up everything.

Wow, this kind of thing makes me sympathize with the plight of the dying race of the PC gamer. This shit is ridiculous.
