I think a whole lot of trouble could be avoided if a simple morality check were to replace the religion portion

Are you:
A) lawful anal good
B) chaotic good
C) true neutral
D) BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD
E) above constraints of petty morality...

Etc.
I choose D, because it is always correct.

More generally, just what are you talking about here?
People vote Jedi because they don't want to give their real religion away. Atheists vote atheist to stick it to God. Huge difference.
I'm going to assume you mean "answer Atheist/Jedi for the religion question on the census" since you don't vote about that sort of thing. And I don't see how Atheists are "sticking it to God" by simply proclaiming their lack of belief when asked. And I'm aware that some people answered "Jedi" to preserve their privacy, and that some did it to protest a supposedly inappropriate question, and that some did it for the lulz, but my point is that unless the person was a practicing Jedi, he skewed the data. Now, there are several legitimate things you can argue here -- maybe something about the content of the Census, how the data is used, or even that the BHA is acting strictly out of self-interest -- but an argument not supported by any evidence readily available in the article, this thread, or the campaign's web site, is that this is a militant Atheist plot to destroy religion.

And frankly, whether purposefully or by accident, your arguments paint Atheists -- all Atheists -- as petty, conniving, and intolerant. Furthermore, your arguments are schizophrenic, occasionally irrelevant, and always confusing. I hope that you'll have slept the night before you reply to this, and that the morning will have brought some sense into your head so that I can at least understand whatever point you're trying to make. But if not, I'll quit this whole damned conversation with you, because it's going nowhere by the direction of prejudice and utter nonsense.

I just wanna go on record with this: A good christian lives his life as an example, not plasters it in front of everyone's face.

Why is an old book a better source of religious belief than a film?

And how come FUCKING SCIENTOLOGY is okay, but Jedi isn't?

Just saying, let people label themselves as they wish.

Especially if you're going to survey something as stupidly vague as religious/spiritual belief.

The Jedi Code is a very real, preachable practice. If studied closely, one may discover that Jedi is not "none of the above", as claimed by those jerks who only want to see their numbers higher nice atheistic people, but instead "all of the above".
Except that the campaign isn't targeted at actual adherents of the Jedi code. It targeted at people who lied to be funny or to piss of the suits in Parliament.

Listen, UK, you can't just ban a religion because you don't like one aspect just to make up your own similar... oh wait...
I did lol about this though :)

Why do the government need to know so badly? Is knowing how many people are religious really going to affect anything they do?
It helps if you click the links in the article sometimes [http://census-campaign.org.uk/what-is-happening/why-does-it-matter/].

No, it really isn't. The flippant attitude of the public is EXACTLY what should be being looked for. People DON'T CARE about census's - which makes them not only a waste of money - but a true denotation of what public attitude is.
This really sums it up. As a devoted reader of Private Eye, and someone who furthermore keeps his eye on his local government and their screw-ups (like somehow managing to have less grit in a worse winter, thus making the main road of our county capital almost lethal to traverse), I know darned well that election promises are not being kept, privacy is being invaded, often for no good reason, and that the religious part of the census has little to no effect on policy whatsoever.

I also agree that if the government are receiving flippant replies, they should note that as a symptom of a deeper problem within our political system... that nobody feels enfranchised, that their opinions do not count. Good example, our local "New New Deal". According to the DWP, there have been several complaints made as to the efficiency of this programme and its staff as opposed to the older system put in place, and the DWP of our area has noted grave concerns about the efficiency and general use of the programme as it is now. Our local council has, in their "infinite" (for a given value of infinite... 0) wisdom, decided to ignore all of this.

I'm going to be filling the census info accurately myself (although I am of a minority belief), but I see major problems with the religious section of this census (which is, thankfully, mostly pages and pages of "Tell us the same things about the other people with you as with yourself"), which puts all christian denominations (with differing practices and focii of beliefs) as "Christian", and, overall, shows a half-baked approach (nothing in it about voluntary employment, just "job", for example). As such, I have no problem with people putting "Jedi".

I remember that repubs were complaining about the invasive questions on the census and I sort of agree with them. Not because I think the government will use it to get me, but just because it's so unnecessary. Sure, it helps the PEW foundation but they have their own surveys that would cost the same regardless and that's out of private pockets instead of public.

So simply dont' ask what religion they are. It'd solve tons of problems and make it more efficient.

Sorry Gallup and Pew, but you're going to have to only get the barebones or work hard for your numbers.

The last time I saw people trying to force someone out of a religion was what led to the rise of the Ottoman Empire where Turks started slaughtering populations and kidnapping children from countries that didn't share the same views on God. They managed to enslave the entirety of Greece for more than 400 years because concepts of religion didn't match.

These guys can get bent for all I care. I would put Jedi just to fuck with them. What the hell is your business what I believe in?

Not really, Gordon. But the question then arises: Why?

For some people, it's for the lulz.
For many, it's a genuine protest by taking the mickey.

I only have this to say to those atheists.

You cannot win, athiests. You strike them down, they'll become more powerful than you could possibly imagine.

Yes...you may imagine that being said by the late Sir Alec Guinness.

Nope, i know my fair share of Atheists that will without asking butt into conversations to tell you when your religious views are wrong, and tell you why, i know Atheists that will start conversations just so they can talk about why anyone who believes in anything is wrong, and has a whole shpeel on why.

Then the people you know are just plain jerks. Those who have to butt in like that apparently aren't comfortable with accepting that everyone is different, and should be respected for their opinions. I'm an Atheist myself, and I don't get up in peoples' faces about my belief, and those who do anger me just like you. It's like invading personal space, in a way.

"But you can't show me proof of not god?!?!"
"So, I don't need to!"

Haha, this should be turned into a web video series.
So, just curious, do you tend to believe everything that might exist unprovably actually does exist? Like, the giant waffle behind your head invisible to everything but you?

This particular jewel works in any body of text, especially if you slip it in between sentences.

People are gloriously ignorant when it comes to quoting first page posts. I have revisited that issue already, and said that I misspoke. I meant merely to compare militant atheists with the most extremes of religion. Atheism is a religion after all, you fool yourself if you think otherwise. In the words of Bruce Lee, "having no way, is way". Their views are as much based off of blind faith as the Christian, Muslim, etc, religions of the world.

Mfw I see this thread:

Is this really so important as to justify the creation of this 12-page circle-jerk?

End it.
