It's all the same nonsense. It should never matter for any government functions whether people have any religion at all, so the fact that it's included in a census is rubbish anyways.
You're right, it shouldn't matter. But it does matter. People who write in Jedi are actually doing the opposite of what most of them want. They are saying that they are religious which results in the government giving more weight to religions in general (but not to Jedis which would be hysterical).

Sure, the government should ignore any write-ins like Jedi, Mickey Mousism, etc. But the fact is that they get millions of these forms and no one goes over each one. Any form of religion = "I am religious" PERIOD.

What these "UK Atheists" are saying is: If you want the government to believe that there's a higher population of religious people to cater to, then go ahead and put down a religion. But if that's not your intention, you should know that's what you're doing. I would say "thanks for the info" if I lived in the UK.

Why does the UK need to know its citizen's religion for the census?

Seems like a waste of effort to me.

The truth is, Democracy is 51% telling the other 49% how to live. Why is it not acceptable? I could see if they were seeking some kind of special treatment as a religion, but this is just over a census. The truth is, they shouldn't be asking that question anyway. A census is supposed to be just a headcount. It's not supposed to tell you everything about all of it's citizens, some information that is apparently very private, like what religion you believe in.

Haha, this is funny though. The Anti-Jedi group should just realize this is only going to make them more powerful than they could possibly imagine... but all jokes aside, this will just make more people write in a religion. And if they don't like it, they should just consider converting any Jedi claims to "No Religion" by default. It is just a headcount after all, right?

Also, I love how the refer to the prequels as "rubbish", because it's so true.

It seems definitive, Atheists can't take a joke.

Jedi ftw.
They are by far the most serious and annoying folks around whenever the topic comes up. I put them up there with the Jesus freaks who get in your face to save your soul. They are simply the other side of the isle, haha.

"NO, You MUST show me proof of GOD!"
"But you can't show me proof of not god?!?!"
"So, I don't need to!"

Haha, this should be turned into a web video series.
That's not really fair on Atheists. I hate atheists who consider themselvs better than religious folks as much as anyone but you can't say all atheists are like that or that we can't take a joke, it's not very fair.

Wow... For a group claiming that they don't care what other people believe or are taught to at least respect other people's beliefs while not actually sharing them, this is very hypocritical. If anything ,if I lived in the UK, I'd put down Jedi as religion JUST to piss these guys off.

It looks like not only are there Jedis in the UK, apparently there are also some Sith...

Seriously though, the amount of SW jokes that could be made for this situation is amazing.

UK atheists need to get the big sticks stuck up there asses forcibly removed!! its a joke you uptight bastards! Besides most of the people claiming to be into 'Jedism' are probably nonreligious but they decide to say otherwise for a laugh
I think one of us has it the wrong way round, I think the Christians are the ones saying "death to the Jedi order" not the atheists.

I was made a Christian but I choose not to be one so I am thinking of putting Sith ... Why not? If they take me seriously more fool them. Hell, I don't even like star wars.

What difference is this going to make anyway? All the schools around my area are some form Christian anyway. With a large population putting Jedi, there not going to open a Jedi academy.

Fuck you atheists, it's either inquisition-style pious society or religious freedom to all. If you haven't found your god doesn't mean someone can't find his in SF movie.

Btw, not jedi, thanks for asking, religious individual myself, and I respect everything except hypocracy.

This is a complicated one. Great if the government are trying to stamp out organised religion, and this census is simply research toward that goal.
Pardon me? That is disgusting.

Why anyone would want any government to make such a totalitarian move as stamping out organized religion is beyond sense.
You don't have to agree with any faith, but such a wish or hope is just disgusting.
I don't disagree with any faith on a personal level. Its when they become massive corporations that play on peoples beliefs for profit that my tolerance wears thin. If you want to believe in Allah then more power to you. If you want to gain power by telling people that Allah will reward them if they blow themselves up in a crowded street, then you should be stopped. Don't tell me you find that 'disgusting'.

*The same goes for Christianity and the Crusades, I just use muslim suicide bombers because its more relevant today.

Damn this is something I'd normally see as normal from a country across the big pond. But if people follow something and it improves themselves, gives them a social life and ideals. Go for it.

You wouldn't catch me dead or alive saying I follow Jedi'ism or something, but if it helps them improve or feel better about themselves, go for it.

We cannot ban/say no to a religion because its not part of the 'accepted groups' of religion like Christianity, Jainism, Islamic or Judaism. Religion is (at least I think) about the betterment of mankind.

Let them follow Jedism, don't be a dick about it.

Seriously, their not saying that no one should believe in Jediism. Their saying that LYING on a census form gives the government inaccurate information that they base decisions off of. Why are so many people not understanding that?!

Personally I would put "Worshiper of Atheismo" (seriously...what do they consider that? Religion or Atheism?) but Jedi isn't bad.

That isn't the fault of religion, that's the fault of the people preying on others.
Should we blame atheism for Stalin's murder of tens of thousands of priests, nuns, monks, and believers?
No! The guy was a lunatic, and used what he could to get people to do what he wanted.
Same with the lunatics who use religion to inflict pain and suffering on others.

There are millions of people in the world who are affiliated with some religious worldview who have no problem or issue with other people in their separate beliefs. What about them? I find it hard to fathom why you, or anyone, could truly advocate the stamping out of organized religion for those who peacefully enjoy their faith.

Such zealous anti-theism is a direct parallel to those extremists you can't stand.
