They are by far the most serious and annoying folks around whenever the topic comes up. I put them up there with the Jesus freaks who get in your face to save your soul. They are simply the other side of the isle, haha.
Actually, I'm an Atheist and I don't really care about it. I don't believe in God, that's my choice, others believe in God, that's their choice. I don't need an explanation for why they do, because it's, exactly that, THEIR choice.
But yeah, just as with all religious-views, there are fanatics :D

I live in the UK and I will put jedi as a from of protest. Althrough I do not really belive in any religion, and while I agree that some of the questions in the census are usefull to the government I do not belive that it is any of their bussiness what I do and do not belive in. Other questions ask if you have ever or are currently feeling depressed or what your general mood is. Here is my respones Mr.Cameron. MIND YOUR OWN FUCKING BUSINESS!!!!!!!!!
The religion question is entirely optional, it quite clearly says on the form (which I have in front of me) "this question is voluntary" so Mr Cameron (who isn't the guy in charge of the census anyway) isn't really 'not minding his own business'. Also, there's nothing in there about mood. There's a couple of questions about health but that's entirely relevant.

Out of interest, what is it you're protesting?

Eliminate them? Sounds more like they're trying to absorb the Jedi into themselves in such a way that also bashes Religion in general. Still, I'm not sure if "Jedi" constitutes a religion anyway. It certainly has a set of morals that help people to lead better lives, but the fact that the Force is a known fictional concept paints it more as spiritualism than anything.

Let us dance the dance of death.

Yes putting false info on the census is stupid but I am curious to know what the effect would be if all the jedi wrote athiest? I mean would this change how tax money is spent? Will it change policy?

For instance, if the government is looking to make a new school, and they have the choice to make it religious (eg. C of E) or non-religious, they will check the census for how the local area feels about religion. If the census says 60% religious (for example) then they would probably opt for a religious school. Now, if half of that 60% is made up of people who put 'Jedi' as their religion for a joke, then I doubt that they'd be too happy about this situation
What if half of that 60% is made up of people who put 'Hindu' seriously? Are they still going to establish a C of E religious school?

If the government thinks the only choice is 'religious' or 'not religious', that's what the form should ask. The fact that the form asks that religion be specified indicates at least some awareness that different religions are different.
Ok, I'll agree that it was a fairly facetious example, but I was trying to make the point that by choosing Jedi people will skew the government's data. And while I disagree with a lot of what the government does, I feel that they are better equipped to make good decision s if they have the right data to work with

All I can say to this is "The Force is not strong with these people" and "I find their lack of faith disturbing".

Skill: Jedi Sense of Humour

The Force-given ability to realise that putting 'Jedi' down on the census form is the sign of an atheist protesting the validity given to religions by this formal recognition, in a humorous and effective way.

That's not really fair on Atheists. I hate atheists who consider themselvs better than religious folks as much as anyone but you can't say all atheists are like that or that we can't take a joke, it's not very fair.
You are correct, it was unfair of me to bash on the group as a whole. I take back what I said. I think I am probably just used to dealing with the extreme versions of things for some reason.

well to be honest when i see people posting in forums about religion, i mainly see athiests bashing christians more than the otherway around,

and thats just as bad as being OVERLYreligous
Haha, I wasn't that explicit in my post, that is what I was saying. Dealing with the extreme atheist is ever bit as bad as dealing with the extreme______(insert random religion).

I am also included you in my broad generalization without meaning too. I have known people on both sides, both extreme and moderate. I didn't mean to lump you in with a group of annoying folks.

Like many others I'm annoyed by how many are moaning about religious freedom etc because re-read the article and it says people put Jedi down AS A JOKE, the people who actually are Jedi are free to put it down, those who aren't shouldn't put it on there, just put atheist or agnostic or whatever you actually are. It's not even that funny, imagine the poor people who have to read through them, yeah reading Jedi might be funny the first time but after the 10th or the 100th?

PERSONALLY, I say that in caps so peeps don't get too offended and realise this is my opinion, I don't really consider Jedi as a religion purely because it was from a film, sure the basic belief could have been there before but with lightsabers really? Not that I'm saying lightsabers are bad or anything, in fact they are awesome. If there was a religion with similar beliefs as Jedi e.g. a universal force that certain people can harness then fine, I wouldnt mind, I dont like Jedi purely because it takes so much from the Star Wars films. I dont like people who base beliefs on pop culture. And for all those who may say that the Bible or Qu'ran etc could be considered pop culture I say GO AWAY AND STOP LYING, I say this as they are ancient texts and werent created, note how I say CREATED, not EDITED in the last 50 years, I know Star Wars isnt 50 years old but whatever.

But if you support the idea that there are religions in UK and it part of the peoples life, it will enforce and justify their spending on religion on schools and other religious funding. SO if you really are against government spending your tax money on religious support in different facilities you are pissing on your own parade.

If you really want to protest you write "None of your fucking business!" I think that would get the message trough slightly better, since your motivation and message is perfectly clear.

They're right. Taking the piss is funny up to a point, but botching an attempt at furthering secularization is taking it a bit far.
You will not be able to excise the cancer of religion by laughing at it, that's for sure.
Best part is, the "satire" probably goes over the heads of most of the people it's intended to make a point to.

Even if answering is voluntary, asking about something that's not your business is rude.

The government's bound to mess something up anyway, why not make their lives easier and do it for them?
