God damn... western countries are either too damn conservative or a liberal nanny state that bans anything unpleasant

ARE THERE ANY MODERATE WESTERN COUNTRIES LEFT THAT VALUE PERSONAL LIBERTIES?

Just another political talking point, nothing will come of it, at least for this particular game.

But seriously, what is it, exactly, that makes this so un-British?

Don't you play as the Taliban, or something similar in multiplayer matches in COD4 and MW2?

Why weren't those games called to be banned? Well 2 was, but that was because of the airport thing.
Nah in MW2 its the opfor or something, the thing is its actually here its not just terrorists its a real group, and you cant blame them when people are still dying because of that group.
People are still dying because of the British military. The Afghani government doesn't freak out whenever a game is made where you can play as the British armed forces.

So what about all the families and fathers that the allied nations have destroyed? We just get a free pass?

Ok, not to be political or anything, but has this idiot paid attention to the civilian casualties inflicted by coalition forces in Iraq and Afghanistan, or by the "good guys" in any war? WTF?

Exactly this, I can't believe this "good guys vs. bad guys" mentality is still actually prevalent in today's society. I guess it just kind of shows you what kind of twisted mentality government officials must have.

Yet again government wants to interfere with gaming. Sure ignore the fact that its a freaking game, a first person shooter, with a setting that has to have talibans....So what? Its just a game, it doesnt mean that someone will go " Oh Hey Im playing as the taliban I must support them now yay hurhurh" Most of the time, players wont even care what side they are playing for, as long as they get to shoot somebody and actually have F.U.N Besides, there is a metric shit ton of games that did that before, there are terrorists, there are good guys, whatever no big deal, been there done that. Anyway, this whole thing will blow over soon.

"At the hands of the Taliban, children have lost fathers and wives have lost husbands"

Well with that any game that has real world conflict should be banned since kids lost fathers and women were widowed.

This just in from EA:

The Taliban faction in Medal of Honor multiplayer has now been officially renamed to..
"the bad guys who totally aren't a real terrorist organization, are you happy now?"

Are there any westerners that value the lives of those people who serve in defense of their country? Or are you too busy eating cheetos and drinking coke to care about people who have the balls to their put their ass on the line for your ignorant benefit.
And I'm sure that the campaign/story part of the game will do nothing but celebrate the courage and selflessness of the allied forced while piling on the hatred for extremists.
The multiplayer component on the other hand... well nobody plays that anyway right? So people will easily get the message that this isn't some pro terrorist game.

It will be nice in the ultra peaceful future when we ONLY have historical wars to base games upon. But games about war will have already been banned...

When I read the first part of being able to play the taliban, I first thought we could play them in their own campaign....now I'm disappointed

In fairness to the guy, he is in charge of the British armed forces. He isn't going to let something that has and will cause considerable public outcry slide. He knows nothing will change due to his rant, but he also knows it will earn him points for 'trying'.
I see his point though, my father is in the army, and I am going into the navy. Whatever your views on the war this is a little too close to the bone. Maybe in 20 years it will pass under the radar, but this is happening now, and in real life. EA knew this, and I daresay that's why it is in the game, they saw the MW2 controversy, and they saw how well it sold, they are a business, they do not care.
The Taliban are not some group of loveable freedom fighters, they are responsible for most of the worlds heroin trade and responsible for more civilian deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan than the UK and US military. In such a delicate political climate, including them in a game is callous. Not just to the armed forces and their families, but to every civilian who has died under their tyrannic rule.
I hate to generalise but those who are happy to glorify these maniacs as 'fighting for their country' or slating anyone who disagrees with this game, needs to really grow the fuck up.

I wouldnt ban it, but I really dont like what EA has done, its distasteful imo.
outraged at him over this, after all, I don't think it's RIGHT that they allow players to play as taliban, I just don't think it's a huge deal.

Neither side is right. EA is just trying to top COD in being controversial, while whatshisname is freaking out over a game.

Personally, I think it's a bit too soon to be playing as the Taliban. Sure, we all have our respective motivations in war, but the Taliban? I'm not the most patriotic American, but we have lost thousands of good people to these nutjobs. I know that if I got this game, I would sure hate to be on the side of the Taliban and shoot at my own people, real or not. I don't care if it's irrational, it still hurts.
