God no. He hasn't had his day in court. Until he does, he is innocent.

Heavens. I thought The Escapist had better common knowledge than this.
Assuming innocence is just as potentially stupid as assuming guilt.

I think 'innocent until proven guilty' is a nice ideal to have but perhaps a bit out of touch with reality at times (also, innocent until proven guilty isn't common sense, it's a way of making trials fair by keeping bias against the defendant to a minimum, it's grounded in legal proceedings).

We here at the Escapist are not a court of law, we are a court of opinion, and from what we have been told about this instance in the article it is fair enough for anyone here to state that they believe him to be innocent or guilty.

Personally, I think the guy's guilty and should be punished for taking a game far too seriously (it should be something that everyone can enjoy, you shouldn't have to deal with other people ruining the experience for their own gain), something along the lines of community service or a fine would be fair enough in my opinion.

What puzzles me is why anyone would do this.
Internet prestige. The most highest prestige you could ever get.
Or so... some people think about it that way.

And someone mentioned a quest for the perfect K/D ratio, that might also be it.

Im american. Im a pacifist. And every who knows me says im the nicest guy they know.
But anyone who ruins other peoples happy time ON PURPOSE shouldent have the right to live, let alone play a video game.

Im sorry if that comes off as mean, but im a bit old school on my feeling. A**holes should die, nice people should live, and everyone should know theyer place in the world. Mine is with the rest of the mindless drones at midlevel sales.
I am inclined to agree, but I would be satisfied with just marching him out on his own street, dragging every single bit of his electronic inventory and smashing them in front of his eyes. And then cutting every single utility service physically from his house except for water and sewage for a month.
Maybe cut those last two if he uses a friend's or neighbor's computer to continue his crap.

Surely wishing he is guilty is much nicer then innocent.

If he is innocent then it would all be a waste of time, money and the kids life would be interrupted for something he didn't do and to top it all off the actual guilty person would be still out there.

If he is guilty then the police have done they job correctly and he would be dealt with accordingly.

Nothing like trial by media, eh?
Could be worse.

Could be a trial by fire.

Or a dunking stool.

Let's hope he is innocent.
Why are so many people angry at you for this? Is it so wrong to believe in "Innocent until proven otherwise." ? Seriously, this is getting way too far unwarranted. I know Pirate Kitty has a strong belief in anti-piracy and that this has infuriated many of you, but are you people seriously just trying to take everything that she says and make a shitstorm out of it? Let up, Escapists. I used to think that we were better than this, but the quality of this forum is going drastically downhill.

OT: I'm with Pirate Kitty on this. Wait until his day in court is done.

Yeah that software is readily available to anyone and everyone. It was all over /b/ when they were attacking Tumblr.

I wonder what an appropriate punishment would be.
Problem is retards like that kid use it without realsing it's a Federal crime, nor do they know how to avoid getting caught. Also why would anyone dowload software linked from /b/? XD
Problem is, retards like that kid exist. If you're going to break the law, or even do something legally controversial, make sure you make it untraceable.

I guess I'll just have to kill you before you kill me. Survival of the fittest yes?

Anyways, the kid is obviously an idiot and probably did the attacks (He purchased the program, lulz) without any kind of protection.

I think that people are minimizing this for calling it "hacking". Using an aim-bot or program to get an unfair advantage is hacking. DDoS is in another class of internet thingamajiggers.
